Habambuhay kayong mananatili,
Sa gunita, sa puso, sa bawat sandali.

Why we should have reunions

Note: We stumbled upon this article online and took the liberty to reprint it here. It was written anonymously.

When I was a young boy, I noticed that every Friday at about 2pm, my grandfather would leave the house, drive somewhere, and come back after three hours. This happened regularly like clockwork for several years.

My curiosity was aroused so much so that I asked my grandmother, “Grandma, where does Grandpa go every Friday afternoon?”

To which my grandmother replied, “He goes to a place called Country Bake Shop in Ermita. He spends time with his friends drinking coffee and having pastries.”

This type of routine is very common among the elderly. A group of old friends would meet in some cafe, have coffee, and reminisce about the good old days. They would make sure they don’t miss any session. After all it is only to these guys they are able to say, “Do you remember?” because these guys were there when they lived those moments.

And then the number starts to dwindle. From a group of eight, the number goes down to five, then to three. Until finally, one finds himself alone. His friends leave him and he must now travel on alone. Even to the friendliest people he meets on the way, he will never be able to say, “Do you remember?” They were not there.

To the elderly, this is one of the most crippling experience. Desolation. The feeling of being left behind by old friends who have been with you and shared with you all those crazy and happy moments. He is devastated by the awareness that the few years he has left will no longer allow him to expand that circle of friends once again.

Desolation. One good reason for the young to prepare themselves psychologically for old age. One good reason for them to treat the elderly with respect and compassion.

One day, all of us will get separated from each other. We will miss our conversations. Days, months, and years will pass until our contacts become rare.

One day, our children will see our photos and ask, ‘Who are these people?’

And we will smile with invisible tears and say, “It was with them that I had the best days of my life.”

Batch ’78 is turning 45 in ’23

Remember this event? This was LDHS Batch ’78’s 40th anniversary reunion held in 2018. Time flies indeed, because this year is already our 45th. Many batchmates are already asking if we are going to hold another get-together to celebrate this milestone. In our Facebook page, some people have in fact already signified their excitement for a possible kitakits, even a simple one. We do hope to hear from our officers. Anyway, while waiting for further announcement, click here to view more photos of our last successful reunion.

Peps Xmas 2022

Spirit of Christmas

The peps held their annual Christmas Party last December 27 at two separate venues: McDonald’s on UN Avenue for breakfast and the nearby Aristocrat Restaurant for lunch. Those in attendance were: Noelito, Larry, Remy, Noel F., Jun, Gil, George, John, Eva, Zaldy, Ruby (with honorary peps member Noel G.), Zeny, Nitz, Rorie, Ana and Keith. Joining them virtually were Eddie, Dado, Lito and Mario. We shall be uploading more pictures and videos of this event soon.

Take note that it is our first post after being in hibernation for more than two years. Interestingly, our last article was also about the group’s Christmas Party in 2019.

We would like to greet everyone Merry Christmas and advance Happy New Year. Here’s hoping for more maritesan in the coming days.

Christmas 2019

peps xmas 2019

The peps are still partying, mind you! And the last time they did was last December 22, when they got together for their annual Christmas party. Present were: Noelito, Jo, Remy, Ruby (who came with hubby Noel and daughter Kim), Zeny, Nitz, Rorie, Keith, John, Lito, and Eva. It was held at a McDonald’s store in BGC, with George as the usual gracious host.

While it was another fun-filled get-together, the day was somehow dampened by the sad news of classmate Mel Abas’s passing the previous day (more on this in our next post). 😦

Anyway, the event was our way of closing 2019, with everyone wishing each other a healthy life in 2020 and the years ahead. This is also our first post in 2020 and we hope we’ll have more time updating this blog.

Huli man daw at magaling, we would like to greet everyone a Happy New Year!

Meet-up in Ontario

Keith dela Cruz attended a conference in Toronto a couple of weeks ago and took the opportunity to meet up with classmates Mario Mercado, Malu Ortiz (who came with husband Ishwar) and former LDHS teacher Salome Tamayo.

It’s always nice to see them again, even in pictures, and know that they are all doing fine in their new adopted country. Let’s just hope we’ll see them for real this December at our planned Christmas get-together.
