Welcome to Enough Light. Thanks for visiting! If you’ve never been here before, Enough Light has been described this way by readers:

♦ “This is what I love about you and your blog – thoughtful, provocative discussion of issues we all need to think about and figure out using biblical principles.”
♦ “Laura mixes book reviews and thoughtful commentary on issues of Christian life and spirituality.”
♦ “Martin is a Christ-following seminary graduate who writes with depth about the spiritual life in general as well as egalitarian thought.”

However, another person said this:
♦ “Some of your posts can steer non-mature Christians in a wrong way – in seeing Satan in everything instead of seeing God, in thinking Satan is more powerful than God.”

So…explore Enough Light for yourself to see what you think!

If you click on the web page title (Enough Light) at the top, and then scroll down, you will see recent posts. You can also explore the tabs at the top and categories to the right. Note that Enough Light has a Facebook page.

Perhaps start here: A highlight of 14 years of Enough Light! – In this recent post I highlight a sampling of articles from Enough Light.

It is most ideal to explore a web site on a larger screen, such as a laptop, desktop, or tablet.

I appreciate you taking the time to consider the work of a wordsmith!
Grace and peace to you in the NAME of our Lord Jesus Christ, Laura Martin

Jesus loves you and judges you?

This is an excerpt from the last chapter of the book I reviewed yesterday:
Is Christmas Unbelievable?

“Jesus is sometimes billed as being the love-and-forgiveness antidote to the wrath-and-judgment God of the Old Testament. But if you read the Gospels, you’ll find that Jesus – while positively dripping with love and forgiveness – also warned about God’s judgement again and again. He said it is like fire (Luke 16:19-31) and like darkness (Matthew 22:13). Like hunger (Luke 6:25) and like terrible thirst (Luke 16:24). Like being locked out of a wonderful party (Matthew 25:1-12) and being locked into a hopeless prison (Matthew 18:34). In the Gospels, we see that Jesus is the one who takes the judgment in our place, but he’s also the Judge (Matthew 25:31-46). We see he came at that first Christmas to heal the crack in the universe that runs through every human heart and home: the crack called sin.” page 54

Judgement is in one sense bad news. But the good news of Christianity is that while Jesus is the Judge, he also took the judgment in your place on the cross! Wow – think about that. Imagine a judge finding you guilty, and then telling you that he will take the punishment in your place. Consider reading Romans 3:21-27. The title over this section, in the New Living Translation, is: Christ Took Our Punishment. See HERE.

I also appreciated how the book (Is Christmas Unbelievable?) referred to the resurrection of Jesus as the “engine driving Christianity.” – That it is! A dead savior would not be a savior! Through faith in the saving work of Christ on the cross, and his resurrection, you can have peace with God.

“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.” Romans 3:22, NLT
