Old Reads And New Books!!,etc..

I never did say anything about the book I finished reading called Why This World by Benjamin Moser..The reason being that I had to return that book to the school library before I could finish it..One of the sad facts about checking books out is that sometimes they have to be returned before they’re finished like the book about Leigh Hunt I had to return..I will eventually get back to finishing the Benjamin Moser book(I only had 1o0 pages left) and then post about it later..

Now, I just finished recently reading  ‘Pearl Of China’ by Anchee Min!! This book was a fascinating story about the author Pearl Buck.  Although the book is fiction, the book was a wonderful read, and I plan to read other books by Anchee Min in the near future.

At this time, I am currently reading ‘The Grass Crown’ by Colleen MCcullough, which is book 2 of the series about ancient rome.  The first book ‘The First Man In Rome’ was a fantastic book, and this book is just as wonderful, if not better, than the first book.

Another book I am reading is ‘Kleopatra’ by Karen Essex, and so far is very good!! I hope to finish it soon and then comment on it later..

The spring semester has started(about 3 weeks ago) and I am taking French(Level II) and Art Appreciation.  So far, I’m very excited to be back in school and look forward to all the studying and reading that will keep my grades up!!

That’s all for now..Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Book Updates, Music…

I had to return the book about Leigh Hunt since it was from the library and it was no longer renewable.  That just means I’ll have more time to read the other books!!

Ok, So I’ve been listening to some new bands I had not listened to before..These are 1)Jeff Buckley, the name of the record I’ve been listening to is Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk(I just love that title, very funny!!).  It’s actually 2 Cd’s containing 2o songs.  This is the first time I’ve listened to his songs and am very glad I did.  Unfortunately, he died a long time ago and that’s so very sad, since he was a great musician.  2.)She’s So Huge(What a name for a band!!) and the CD is called There’s That.  This is a new band for me and I’ve enjoyed listening to their music.  I’m going to look them up on the internet and try to get more info. about them. 3)Cynder and the CD is Hide The Light-I had never heard of them before, but was very happy to have discovered their music, and I look forward to following up on the band as well.

Ok, well that’s about all I’m posting for now..What have you been listening to?

Books

The books I have been reading lately are: 1)The Man Who Made Lists: Love,Death,Madness and the Creation of Roget’s Thesaurus by Joshua Kendall. 2)Why This World: A Biography of Clarice Lispector by Benjamin Moser. 3)The Wit In The Dungeon:The Remarkable Life Of Leigh Hunt: Poet, Revolutionary, and the Last of the Romantics by Anthony Holden.

Today, I finished The Man Who Made Lists.  This book was fascinating to me!! The man Peter Roget, the creator of the Thesaurus, was a very lively and interesting character.  He knew many people and wrote many other writings besides the Thesaurus.  I don’t want to spoil the story by telling much about it.  However, I must say for a man who lived to be 91 in the late 1800’s with all of his mental faculties still working, he was an intriguing person.  If you like biographies, this is one which will leave you happy to have read it.
