The Joy of Port-A-Potties

So I finished my first half marathon with synthroid and it was definitely a best of times worst of times kind of scenario.
The first ten miles were great. I was sticking with my pace group. Stephanie (L&D nurse with St Luke's, not my sister) and I even caught back up with our group after the port a potty line that would not end.
And then mile 10 happened.
My fingers and toes were numb and I felt freezing. I guess my meds wore off and i got to run a 5K without any thyroid help. I seriously wanted to curl up and take a nap in the grass at that point. Instead I dropped back from my pace group. I figured I'd walk it in the last three miles.
But no, I didn't despair. Because my awesome friends kept popping up. First Rachel on the right, then Natalie and her kids on the left. By the time I hit mile 12, I reunited with the Stephanie from my pace group (who's legs were burning out) and Jacque from church. We jogged it in the last mile. I even got to thank my pacers just after the finish line.
I walked and jogged back over to the church and met up with my family. After bath and lunchtime, we headed back for DS and DH to do the family fun run.
DD thought the port a potty was the Tardis. DS wanted to know where a clean restroom was. (Me and you both kid.)
DS had a great run, despite tripping at the water stop.
Only problem being I tripped and went down hard carrying DD back to the car afterwards. Yes, I sustained a spectating injury. To both hands and knees.
Sigh.
Next time I'll stick to running.

Tapering is not My Favorite

I'm starting to wonder if tapering is really necessary for a half marathon...
kind of because I'm trying to justify wanting to take these twitchy legs and just run anyhow.

I found this blog-http://runforyourlife-yassine.blogspot.com/2010/08/is-tapering-necessary.html
That seems to suggest anecdotally that tapering is not in fact necessary.  At least for ultras.

Thanks to google, I've found there're quite a few people (blogs, forums) who think tapering for a half isn't in fact necessary.

It's not like I'm trying to PR here.

Hmmm...guess who might be going for a run later today.

Tapering

I know I'm not the only one who goes a little nutty as my mileage decreases...
And my sister may not in fact be able to run with me next week.
Deep breathing.

Really?!?

So apparently, after two months of training for this half marathon and blood work to see what on earth is going on (my weight hasn't budged) it's official.
I'm hypothyroid.
A single day on synthroid made a world of difference and even a week later, it's still amazing how much of life I was missing versus what is possible. Back to trying to lose and it's slowly inching in the right direction (yes!)
That's true even though I'm in the beginning of a taper week. Usually, my weight jumps during taper!
Hoping this keeps going and off to get my kidlets tested too.
