I have my back up singers here, so let’s begin. To truly honor our mother there are song lyrics, movie quotes, and book references woven throughout and yes, there will be a quiz later. I’ll time you.
Mom loved us. She loved us whether we were Leo the Late Bloomer or Amy the dancing bear. She loved her grandkids like raffi loved baby beluga and like a fat kid loves cake. When we moved far from the home we loved she supported us with care packages and constant communication . She raised us up so we could walk on mountains with the “Sleeping Tape” which reminded us daily that we are good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it people like us. She was also quick to remind us that she brought us into this world, she can take us out of it. And that there was only one airbag in the Jeep and she wasn’t afraid to use it.
Mom and dad taught us some really important things, like that candlesticks are always a great gift, just keep swimming, to always look on the bright side of life, and that if someone asks if you’re a god, you say yes. She knew to dodge dip duck dive and dodge and to fall asleep counting her blessings.
Mom, there is so much we will miss. So much we can’t currently figure out. But we know you’re solving the puzzle on the other side. We don’t know why this thing happened but this much is clear. Anytime we cry, anytime we sing, for anything you are there. Teach us how to say good bye and Rise Up. You’re everything I wish I could be. I can fly higher than an eagle, for you are the wind beneath my wings.
