D&D Sword Studies
Some studies I did for a low level sword used by my ranger. Gonna pick a few and do some more exploration.
Lessons In Sketching: Reference & Life Studies Will Save Your Life
So I am working on visualizing my D&D character and I decided to do his pet first. For context, his pet is a dire rat that plays checkers. Below is some embarrassing stuff that taught me some important lessons. I started off thinking that I could jump straight into drawing Checkers. It didn't go well right from the start and I got frustrated. I then took a step back and asked "what does a rat look like?" Pulled some ref and just did some studies. I failed again by not asking the same question for what does stylization mean... In the end I learned the importance of study and reference. I also spent some time reading books about studio drawing and form.

Oh crap. I fell into the rabbit hole of pintrest.
Well I fully intended to do some studies this morning but as I was looking for reference material I stumbled headlong into the rabbit hole that is pintrest. Super excited to start using it. Lots of really inspirational stuff and a great way to organize reference and tutorials. I didn't make anything this morning but I feel like I added a valuable tool to my toolbox.
Here are my boards on Pintrest.

Color Exploration + Testing
Got some interesting trick and tips about color from a friend today so I wanted to begin playing around with some of the ideas he dropped on me. The primary thing I was trying to play with here is exploring the ability to make a material more "colorful" without dramatically increasing saturation. One big caveat is that I did increase the saturation in the super dark shadow areas. This was a tip shared with me that it was possible to "hide" saturation boots in shadows. By doing this, the overall saturation seems higher but in reality it is still clamped over the majority of the material. Gonna need some more tests and experimentation.
