Lucia Scalisi began her career in Conservation at the Victoria and Albert Museum after receiving her Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings from the University of Northumbria (formerly Gateshead Technical College). She worked as Senior Conservator of Paintings at the V&A, after which she set up a Conservation Studio in private practice in central London.
Lucia was Chief Restorer with the ‘Calcutta Tercentenary Trust’ at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkatta, India; Lecturer at the Academy of Conservation in Tbilisi, Georgia; Advisor to The Levantine Foundation/Deir al-Surian Desert Monastery, Egypt (image below); Lecturer in Conservation Studies at London City & Guilds are amongst 21stC projects. Working with the American University of Beirut (AUB) on their inaugural collection is a highlight. Since 2024 another project highlight working in Cairo with an important single collection of modern art by Egyptian artist Gazbia Sirry (1925-2021).
2017 saw a new series for the BBC, ‘The Repair Shop’ – in which Lucia is the Paintings Conservation expert. This BAFTA award winning series is syndicated world wide by Warner Bros. TV. Filming series 11 is underway for 2025, Lucia is a Presenter for the BBC1 prime time programmes.
In 2025 Lucia was made Honorary Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers. The Guild has a history of over 500 years in the City of London. In addition she will be made a Freeman of the City of London, an honour to be inaugurated in the autumn of 2025 in the City she loves and where she lives and works. (One of the ancient honours of being a Freeman is that I can drive my flock of sheep 🐑 across London Bridge without incurring a tax).
Qualifications:- University of Sheffield 2:1 Hons; Diploma in Conservation.
Conservation Professional within ICOM (International Council of Museums) & member of BAPCR (British Assoc. of Paintings Conservators/Restorers).
