As one of the oldest colonial settlements in Paraguay, Villarrica enjoyed a period of economic growth. This resulted in an influx of European immigrants, and the city became filled with extravagant homes. Even with these mansions, though, one chuch stands out. The stone Ybaroty Church makes a visit to Villarrica worthwhile.
