Pirated Software

It is well known that pirated and counterfeit software is unreliable, ensure and unstable, causing very poor computing experience and low levels of productivity, as well as being a legal liability. What has been established clearly was the extent to which cyber criminals are using pirated software to infect, intrude and attack computers and networks with malwares. The Philippines is located in Southeast Asia and is also suffering from high risk malware infections and viruses. Its low income people rarely can afford the cost of these technology component such as its hardwares, much more its maintenance cost for softwares applications. Looking at the competitive edge, that there is a need to upgrade to a better accessibility from its useful designs, programs and new generation software mainly because for profit, career advancement and business stability. However, IT software is a small fraction of total operating expenses but can be a higher cost if it has not been properly paid for.

Knowledge Management

Just in time that the organization I am in, is implementing the Performance Governance System processes and that the journey towards the understanding of what knowledge management is in place. On the realization of this dream, just like any organization we had rough and winding road as trial for testing process as we slowly take the pace. Knowledge management has answered all our queries in the fight against corruption and achieving transparency and good governance. Reducing services into measurable indicators as goods are being counted or converted into numbers. All these were possible in real sense as long as the Vision and Mission is clear. Built objectives transcend as reach  the goal.

Why knowledge management became beneficial? We ensure that personnel whom we consider as an important resource has fully understand where we are going. From the top Cop down the lowest unit, we use uniform information as it is being cascaded so all are aligned and towards development. The greatest barrier in attaining efficiency is time, but genuine transformation then, will not stop there. Sometimes, I would think of good leadership as an edge, their capacity to impart knowledge without sacrificing discipline. By looking at them as an example, then following their footsteps is empowerment. As public servant, we leave it up to the people to see and feel the result of the big change for betterment , after all it is them whom we swear to serve and protect.

Effective Use of Business Intelligence Tools, a Rewarding Performance

Who can say no to business intelligence as a tool to tract performance information that any organization need quickly and easily. It has significantly improve the ability to respond to change as an opportunity to achieve the goal or purpose. This technology allows an organization to assess real performance versus projected results. An effective strategy to perform activities better or more pleasurable to do  while lowering the time it takes. As leader clear vision of the future, it lay down to exercise greater creativity in planning and to more aggressively pursue future opportunities.

Optimum bottom-line performance can only occur when everyone at every level and across functional area is working towards a common set of clearly understood ideas. These shared efforts can be rewarding because few in a competitive world has the attitude and sincerity to perform. Pay –for-performance programs encourage employees to track their own performance against pre-established targets, thus creating a sense of challenge to improve levels of work efficiency.

Further, many employees enjoy competing against themselves to achieve greater level of success. An emphasis on tracking and recording legitimate performance data allows this competition with one’s self. In addition, not every job lends itself well to quantitative measurement. In these cases, however, several quantitative measures can be implemented by qualitative measures to paint an effective picture of job performance. As an organization’s experience with pay for performance increases, and as the program matures, various measurement methods can be further developed or refined, and in some cases these individual job measurement technologies can point to new data that should be tracked to better monitor overall performance.

Shopping on line; convenient or less convenient?

Shopping in the internet can be very convenient for consumers because it offers quick comparison of prices, varieties of goods and/or services, easy access to consumer review and no pressure from sales people. A shopper can just go online anytime he/she wants. It is especially convenient for moms with small children who can not leave their homes because of the hassle of bringing the baby and all the stuff along with them or due to unpredictable weather. They can just find their own time at their own pace and choose the item they desire at the comforts of their home.

The power to have options of what to buy diligently with no pressure from sales clerks following or keeping an eye on your pick. It can be very awkward that someone is looking at your back hoping that you would finally decided on what to buy. Diligent buying, since all information about a certain product are stated in just a click.

The top three product items on my list that i would buy online with no hesitation are the following (1) anti-virus security software for my laptop (2) athletic apparel and (3) music/mp3 files. These downloadable stuff are easier to access and at the same time easy to use and are available in just a click. Athletic apparels usually suits just right to my personally because i am often at the gym for my routine physical fitness. I can find the old time music I once loved to hear yet no longer available in the store or in the mall. They might have been included in the archives or has been declared obsolete.

However, there are items sold that would make me think twice before buying due to the reasons that, sometimes, online shopping can be inconvenient. For example, in buying clothes, you wouldn’t really know which standard size they are using for their products (is it american size/for petite asian size). Since you only see the products, you wouldn’t know if the clothing you buy would really fits you. Also, the power of touch is lacking, you wouldn’t know the texture of the clothing material unless you are familiar with what each material would feel like in your skin and if you have some questions about a certain product you may not have someone to talk to immediately.

There are also privacy issues in shopping online especially if the site you have ordered the product upon would require you to enter your credit card number. The recent turn of events over the world wide web is the emergence of online scam and hackers that might get into your account and pull out all your funds. This concerns a lot of online shoppers nowadays.

If you would ask me what are the three products that I would have second thoughts of buying, the top three on my list are (1) footwear, (2) jewelry and (3) furniture. I love shoes but buying them online would give me doubts on how they fit and on how they would feel on my feet. Looks can be deceiving, as the saying goes. What might have looked beautiful in picture might not live up to my expectations once received. Then what? The other items I listed would give me second thought due to the fact that these items would surely have very costly shipping fees. If ever I find that there would be defects on the product or its just not what you thought you have paid for, it is quite costly to ship them back again to get it replaced.

There are also things that I would never buy online and the top three on my list are (1) food and beverage, (2) beauty products, and (3) gift items. Most items are delivered via courier so I wouldn’t be so assured of the integrity of the product when it arrives. Since the items I have listed are either perishable of vulnerable to breakage during shipping. I don’t find it convenient to order those stuff online

Outsourcing I.T.

Outsourcing IT is a big no in the organization I am in, though I believe that IT plays a major role in the efficient running of an organization. However to keep us abreast of changes, PNP looks into ways how to develop its system by sending its personnel to training and schooling in order to manage its program. Even though, PNP portrays its “civilian in nature management”, its upbringing came from a military school and educational facilities. There are really issues involve in turning over security to an outside organization. Example of this is confidentiality in the operation, personnel profile, targets and other covert activities which  secrecy is the standard operating procedure.

In a business world, I once worked with, IT outsourcing was really a big step, a bolder one for the management to realize that they really did not made money from the business. Analysis was so fast because of information extracted from data produce by the new system. IT outsourcing then, was documented where stipulations are being entered upon, for me particularly, the duration and maintenance of the system is a concern, because IT Outsourcing cost much and will eat investments. Perhaps until such time personnel can stand alone and adopt in the running system. Good set of managers then were able to articulate and learned fast for the company to obtain the real value of IT.

IT and Me

Information Technology or IT is the most powerful part of modernization that exists in society today. But what is IT? What is its importance to me? This blog is made to answer these two questions.

The advancement in technology led the way to an easier, faster and more productive life. In my case, I find the use of technology as an aid in my every day work. The internet has made everything within my reach. I can find out the things I need with a touch of a keyboard or a click of a mouse. My office works were made easy by various applications in Adobe and Microsoft Office by not having to manually draw tables, graphs and other visual presentations needed by my line of work.

With the development of Information Technology, the turn of tides flowed together with the improvement on communication. Who would ever thought that I would still be able to chat with my colleagues back in the good old days of “High School”. Its amazing how the social media can bridge the distance between two countries without spending anything at all.

See how amazing life is now that computers are everywhere and within our reach?
