‘some day love’s gonna hurt me’
I have finally finished this labour of love which has descended, rapidly, into a big old ballache. A song every day through 2013 and 2015 (2014 was missed out due to commitments to moving house and getting married). I now have two years worth of music with lots of memories associated with them, so that’s something.
This is the final one. No more. This is my final and most recent favourite song from the year 2015.

The inimitable Antibalas, a multi-faceted modern Afrobeat collective who are so good that they were asked to reproduce the work of Fela Kuti and his bands in the Broadway production of Fela! A great video too.

A review in the Guardian this week describes Sao Paulo’s Boogarins as a blend of psychedelia and tropicalia. I think I like it.

‘Christmas will drown your love’
LCD Soundsystem released their first new song in five years yesterday. The disbanded LCD Soundsystem, one of my favourite bands of recent times, released a new song yesterday. A CHRISTMAS SONG! A thoroughly depressing Christmas song. It cheered me up no end.

‘I feel so warm a glow because I love you so’
I thought I knew lots of Christmas songs but now I have a new entry into my top five.
It’s normal to keep those kinds of lists in your head isn’t it?
Another place I am now turning to for regular new music is the inimitable Norman Records. Their reviews can be honest, ascerbic and to the point, and that’s what I like.
Today they recommended Tross, a krautrock-inspired four piece from Sweden. I liked it.
Lauren was at work today so I had some time to catch up with albums that I hadn’t had chance to hear yet.
The Floating Points album has had lots of positive reviews but some of the description I’d read put me off a little. However, I gave it a go today and enjoyed it – a varied mix which reminded me of the Cinematic Orchestra, Radiohead and Jon Hopkins.
