There are a lot of people around who can’t wait to tell you what you’ve done wrong, but there aren’t many fathers willing to take the time and effort to help you grow up. (1 Cor 4:15)
Other than the Prologue, which has been deliberately paused at the part of the supernatural intervention, the remaining chapters are written to introduce young Karp and his accompanying characters.
Most of the poignant life stories we review have either been based upon my own life experiences, testimonies I’ve read and heard, or heart-rending situations that have impacted me sufficiently to make me want to shout out and echo the words of so many philosophers before me through the ages, “those who cannot learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.”
As we meet each character and they open their lives to examination, we see how similar we all really are. How the same grasping passions that were at work in our ancestors in the first century – greed, pride, fear, doubt and even self-loathing, run eternally and consistently through us all within the twenty-first. Even though we view life through a harsh unbending prism of reality because the light and hope of God burns anew and is ever faithful towards his children who are locked within their own personal struggles.
In the opening chapters, we see how Karp’s family perished through an outbreak of Cholera and how, in his depressive state, he was kidnapped, brutally abused, and forced into slavery, yet divinely protected and ultimately loved and mothered through the rekindled kindness of a lonely old spinster, who we find is none other than a seventy-year-old, depressed, and companionless, Mary Magdalene.
We also meet several other predominant characters who have already enjoyed a footnote in Christian lore and world mythology. These characters are brought back into the light within the pages of the book, and as we investigate their lives, I believe that we, too, will be challenged by their choices.
From helping a King to rescue a kidnapped princess and working covertly with the occupying Roman forces to rid the islands of evil marauding pirates to then dealing with the terrible demonic powers at the temple of Artemis of Ephesus, Karp is always at the forefront of adventurous events and spurs us all on ever to choose the greater paths of hope and faith.
It’s finally time to share a project that has been on my heart and that I’ve been working on for many years. As many of you know, www.muchgracepublications.com has been my new blogging platform – it’s put me in touch with some more fantastic people and encouraged me to complete my first ever book, KARP.
I’d love to share this project with you all and hear your views.
Please feel free to join my group on Facebook Much Grace where I’ll be sharing my daily reflections, details about my book (and its release date) as well as the first couple of chapters so I can hear your views!
As always, your love and support would be incredibly appreciated.
Many thanks
Warren ❤️
As I let you know before, I’ve found so much more time during this lockdown to be able to sit, think and write, that I’m really excited to share that I’m finally moving my Blog to a brand new website:
As well as a new site, I’ve been accompanied by the most wonderful view from my new office which has really encouraged me to complete the first draft of my book, KARP.
This book has been on my heart for many years and being able to complete it brings me so much joy, I really can’t wait to share it all with you.
If you’re interested in knowing more, I will be sharing snippets of it over on my new blog site and would love to know your thoughts!
I am very much looking forward to this new chapter of my life for both MuchGrace and Karp.
As always, I thank you dear reader for your support and prayers, and I pray every Blessing on you and those you hold dear, from the bottom of my heart.
One day Jesus taught his disciples this: “Betrayals are inevitable, but great devastation will come to the one guilty of betraying others. It would be better for him to have a heavy boulder tied around his neck and be hurled into the deepest sea than to face the punishment of betraying one of my dear ones!
So be alert to your brother’s condition, and if you see him going the wrong direction, cry out and correct him. If there is true repentance on his part, forgive him. No matter how many times in one day your brother sins against you and says, ‘I’m sorry; I am changing; forgive me,’ you need to forgive him each and every time.”
Upon hearing this, the apostles said to Jesus, “Lord, you must increase our measure of faith!” (Luke 17:1)
This message must surely be for me only today, I cannot believe that anyone other than me struggles with forgiveness…! “Holy Father, open the eyes of my heart (again) to see just what the sin of my unforgiving attitude did to you on the cross. I choose to forgive those who have hurt me – Lord, help me to release my memories of the events to you. Amen.
(Psalm 32:8) “The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
I was uncertain as to where to go next when I received the following text:
“I’m enjoying your series on the Holy Spirit. I think you’ve nailed it, to be honest! The only thing I might add is that we don’t often have teaching/training on how God speaks to us, and people may miss the Holy Spirit‘s promptings because they just don’t recognise how God speaks to them. Not a sinful omission, just a lack of awareness… Blessings!”
So, here is my take on how GOD is believed to communicate with us all. I will begin tomorrow with No. 1. Scripture. NB – I’m deeply grateful for your testimonies. Please keep them coming as they encourage and touch us all.
Scripture: The Bible is considered the primary source of GOD’s Word and guidance.
Prayer: Through personal communication and reflection with GOD.
The Holy Spirit: Guiding, convicting, and comforting believers.
Creation: Observing the natural world and its beauty.
Circumstances: Life events that reveal GOD’s direction or purpose.
Other People: Wise counsel from others: e.g. Donkeys (lol – Numbers 22), spiritual leaders or fellow believers.
Dreams and Visions: Sometimes GOD communicates through imagery or dreams (Joel 2:28).
Inner Conviction: A sense of peace or urgency that aligns with God’s will.
As usual, I’ll run with these methods and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
+++
Let us pray, “Heavenly Father, Your Word assures me that You are always speaking. Please help me to truly hear and understand what You are saying. Open my heart and mind to Your Guidance and wisdom.” Amen!ty. May Your Holy Spirit work freely within me, filling my life with grace and peace.” Amen!

Keeping on with the theme of ‘not grieving the Holy Spirit’, here’s Part 5 of 5.
HOLDING GRUDGES: It’s amazing how many people don’t think this affects their lives or the Holy Spirit’s influence. They might say, “This is just an issue I have with that person,” or “It just goes to show that you can’t get on with everybody,” believing their relationship with GOD is unaffected by their hard-hearted attitude. However, holding grudges actually does diminish the Holy Spirit’s work in your life.
When pride or offence divides us from other believers, or when we harbour resentment towards them, it grieves the Holy Spirit, and His check in our spirit requires us to examine our hearts immediately.
If we don’t respond to the Holy Spirit’s prompting and continue to justify our stance, then we begin the slide towards resentment and loss. As mentioned previously, this doesn’t happen instantly; it begins subtly and reveals itself in small ways. You might find yourself: (a) Less patient with them. (b) Less gracious. (c) Thinking poorly of them. (d) Judging them negatively. (e) Overlooking their good actions and rather focusing on their faults.
As the Holy Spirit’s influence wanes, bitterness begins to take root. Symptoms of bitterness include: (a) Defensiveness. (b) Inability to handle challenges. (c) Strong reactions to disagreements. (d) Quickness to anger. (e) Tension that makes others uneasy. (f) Blindness to your own flaws. (g) Inability to appreciate others’ good deeds. (h) Ingratitude for GOD’s blessings. etc. Bitterness then takes over, becoming the lens through which you view life, affecting everything: your relationships, possessions, and responsibilities. It doesn’t happen suddenly, either; it creeps in like a cancer. Instead of rejoicing as you once did with Grace, Joy, Patience, and Kindness, you’ve become harsher, harder and more critical…
(1 Corinthians 1:10) “I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”
(John 17:21) “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.”
As we can see from Jesus’ statement, ‘unity’ isn’t just a ‘nice thing to have’, but a testimony to the whole world and one that the world needs to see more than ever today!
The Holy Spirit in me is united with the Holy Spirit in you. Cutting off a brother or sister doesn’t resolve the issue in any way, and choosing this path only allows bitterness to apprehend you!
If unresolved, the cancer of bitterness becomes a pattern, making future bitterness even harder to combat. In effect, bitter people only become more bitter.
To overcome resentment, we have to first accept that Jesus calls us to unity with the body of Christ. Then we must get before GOD and ask Him for His help so that we can reconcile with our brother or sister. This calls for releasing pride – before it leads to a fall.
The Holy Spirit aids those who forgive and show kindness, and this action again returns His dynamic influence in your life.
+++
Let us pray, “Heavenly Father, I don’t want to go my own way any longer in bitterness and hardness of heart. Please help me release any grudges and bitterness in my heart. Guide me to forgive and seek unity with my brothers and sisters. Soften my heart to embrace kindness and humility. May Your Holy Spirit work freely within me, filling my life with grace and peace.” Amen!

Keeping on with the theme of ‘not grieving the Holy Spirit’, here’s Part 4 of 5.
LACK OF FAITH: Whenever we encounter difficulties and hesitate to rely on GOD because of doubts about our worthiness, or His willingness to help, or trust in His promises, it reveals a lack in our faith. Nothing erodes faith quicker than the acid of fear. That’s why the Bible expressly tells us (365 times), “Do not fear!” As believers, we are called to walk within our Salvation – that means lovingly trusting our Saviour; can you imagine a baby or child distrusting their mother’s good intentions? We should likewise embrace a trust-based perspective. When challenges arise, we shouldn’t just have a tantrum, roll over, give in or feel defeated. Instead, we should run to GOD and the Holy Spirit will help us to view these problematic situations through GOD’s perspective, which means being confident that He will lead us through. This doesn’t mean that He will just click His fingers and make it all go away. This might mean trusting in His plan and working ‘with’ Him until it’s completed – “knowing that He orchestrates everything for your benefit.” (Romans 8:28) Hebrews 11:6 tells us that “…it is impossible to please God without faith… and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” So, we know that this new ‘born-again’ life of faith delights GOD, because, like a child, it demonstrates our dependence on His Word, His Character, and His Integrity. Embracing faith rather than fear invites the Holy Spirit’s influence. Faith flourishes when we cease relying on our own efforts and humbly seek our Father GOD, inviting Him into our lives. So, Child of the Living GOD, humble yourself and run to Him. Depend on Him, He WILL act, and you WILL experience His mighty work in your daily life as you trust Him to act on your behalf.

Let us pray, “Heavenly Father, please transform my fearful heart into one filled with child-like trust in You. Help me to hear and trust Your Holy Spirit. Grant me the courage to believe without doubting and find the joy of Faith in every moment.” Amen!

(Ephesians 4:30) “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
Keeping on with the theme of ‘not grieving the Holy Spirit’, here’s Part 2.
SINS OF OMISSION: James 4:17 tells us clearly, “It is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” This highlights how willingly sinning often stems from a lack of reverence for GOD. For instance, if the Holy Spirit prompts you to speak to someone but you hold back out of fear of judgment or criticism, that’s clearly the “fear of man.” Obeying the Holy Spirit means being ready to face misunderstanding and, at times, to offend religious norms. Walking with the Spirit requires being a disruptor, not always fitting in or finding your place. Consider if the Holy Spirit urges you to help someone financially or to donate to a charity or ministry, but you hesitate, either out of fear of loss (greed), thinking, “maybe later.” Or perhaps you’re called to prophesy, pray for the sick, or use a spiritual gift, but you’re held back by fear. Maybe you’re nudged to share the Gospel with loved ones, yet worry about their reactions. Or perhaps you’re prompted to apologise to someone you hurt – but pride stops you. The more you don’t do what He tells you, the longer you delay, then the harder it will become to hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit. As you delay, as you wait, as you stand there frozen in fear of the consequences, as you stand there demanding your own preferences, demanding that you retain the comforts of the current lifestyle you have, then little by little, the influence of the precious Holy Spirit is being diminished in your life!
In 1 Thessalonians 5:19, it says, “Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.” The term “stifle” evokes the idea of extinguishing a flame, suggesting that we can diminish the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives – like putting out a fire!
+++
Let us pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You for the Gift of the Holy Spirit in my life. Help me to remain open and receptive to His guidance and presence. May I never stifle His influence but instead fan the flame of His work within me. Guide my actions, thoughts, and decisions so that I may align with Your will. Help me to be sensitive to the Spirit’s promptings, reject my flesh, and walk faithfully in Your path.” Amen!

Keeping on with this theme, I’m going to lean again on GOD’s Wisdom portrayed through our brother David Diga Hernandez … when he told us that “When we prefer the pleasures of sin to the Holy Spirit, then, we have to accept that His influence will be minimised in our lives by the things we do!”
We established yesterday that your behaviour affects the Holy Spirit’s heart. If the Holy Spirit loves you enough to be grieved by your sin, then the Holy Spirit loves you enough to be pleased at your obedience.
SINS OF COMMISSION: Involve intentionally doing what we know is wrong. These acts of disobedience occur when we violate the clear teachings of Scripture, go against GOD’s nature, or ignore His direct guidance. For Example, if the Lord has given you specific instructions and you are hesitating, remember that delayed obedience is still disobedience. We must respond promptly to the Holy Spirit when He speaks to us. In Galatians 5:19-21, it’s stated that following the desires of our sinful nature leads to obvious outcomes: sexual immorality, impurity, excessive indulgence, idolatry, sorcery (which is influencing events, people, etc), hostility, arguing, jealousy, fits of anger, selfishness, discord, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and similar behaviours. It’s emphasised that living this way prevents us from inheriting GOD’s Kingdom, *meaning* that His influence is diminished in your life, distancing the Holy Spirit and reducing His impact! This isn’t a sudden thing either. The process unfolds gradually—day by day, moment by moment, decision by decision. We’re either enhancing the Holy Spirit’s influence—or diminishing it! When His influence wanes, we might not even notice until one day we realise old habits and attitudes have resurfaced, leading us to live in a new direction.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:19, it says, “Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.” The term “stifle” evokes the idea of extinguishing a flame, suggesting that we can diminish the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives – like putting out a fire!

(Ephesians 4:30) “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
I’m going to break off again in order to answer some questions. If the Holy Spirit can experience grief, this highlights an emotional depth associated with personhood. Knowing that the Holy Spirit feels emotions like ours shows that He’s ‘one’ with us. That when He intercedes for us, He understands where we are; that He feels our pain.
There’s a guy I like called David Diga Hernandez, and he answers a lot of our questions here:
If I were to get two glasses of water and pour them into a single vessel, not only would you not again be able to separate those waters, you wouldn’t be able to tell those waters apart! You would recognise that the two had become one!
In the same way that you had become born-again, you had become alive in the spirit, you became alive unto union with the Holy Spirit. So, your body (which is your earth suit), your soul (which harbours your free will, emotions, your thoughts, and your personality), and your spirit (which is where you find your true identity) are now alive, and all connect with GOD.
So, as Christians, we’re not aiming to connect with GOD – and I know that might sound rather negative or disrespectful to what the journey of faith is, but I didn’t mean it in that way. In fact, we should be inspired to know that we’re not living in an attempt to connect with GOD. Christianity is not an attempt to connect with GOD; go back to the glass of water – it’s living out of the Union that you already have!”
+++
Let us pray, “Heavenly Father, we thank You for the profound truth that we are not striving to connect with You, but are living from the union we already have through Christ Jesus and Your Holy Spirit. Help us to embrace this relationship fully, knowing that our lives are a reflection of Your presence within us. Inspire us to live each day rooted in this Divine connection, and may our actions and thoughts be guided by this deep bond. Strengthen our faith as we walk in the assurance of our unity with You.” Amen!

Here, we explore frustration over the lack of transformation or victory over sin despite faith. Here are just ‘some’ of the possible reasons:
NB – ALL of these (and more) can be easily fixed through a ‘living relationship’… and I stand before you, my brothers and sisters, freely admitting I’m not writing these to shame anybody, rather, I have experienced most of these myself…!
Lack of Faith or Doubt: Doubts about GOD’s presence or promises can hinder the experience of the Holy Spirit.
Unconfessed Sin:Harbouring sin can create a barrier to experiencing the fullness of the Spirit.
Lack of Prayer and Devotion: Infrequent prayer and limited time spent in GOD’s word will affect spiritual sensitivity.
Disobedience: Ignoring GOD’s guidance will prevent experiencing His power.
Emotional or Spiritual Burnout:Exhaustion or overwhelming life circumstances can make it difficult to feel spiritually connected.
Cultural or Intellectual Barriers: Relying heavily on logic can create doubt about spiritual experiences, which might close you off to the influence of the Holy Spirit. This approach will lead to valuing reason over intuition and experiences rooted in faith.
Fear of Surrender:Reluctance to fully surrender ‘control’ to GOD can limit the work of the Holy Spirit.
Community Influences: Being in a community that doesn’t emphasise the Holy Spirit’s work might impact personal experiences.
NB – Through prayer, study, and seeking a relationship with the Holy Spirit, you will enrich your connection with the Holy Spirit’s power. It’s crucial to ask for His direction, understanding that each spiritual path is different and growth may take time. By trusting in His steadfast faithfulness and remaining patient, you will fulfil your purpose as His instrument – even if it’s not immediately evident.
+++
Let us pray, “Holy Spirit, I’m here with an open heart, ready to feel Your presence. I admit my doubts and seek faith in Your promises. Forgive any sins that block my connection with You. Help me stay dedicated to prayer and Your word, looking to You for guidance every day. When I’m weary, refresh my spirit and provide strength. Break down any mental barriers that limit my openness to You. Teach me to let go and accept Your will. Surround me with a community that supports my journey. I trust You’re working within me, even when I can’t see it. Thank You for Your endless love and faithfulness.” Amen!

How the same grasping passions that were at work in our ancestors in the first century – greed, pride, fear, doubt and even self-loathing, run eternally and consistently through us all within the twenty-first. Even though we view life through a harsh, unbending prism of reality because the light and hope of God burns anew and is ever faithful towards his children who are locked within their own personal struggles.

Here’s another compelling testimony, real-life example, and inspiring story to help us delve deeper together into the Holy Spirit, propelling us from unbelief to Faith in Him.
“In the past, I was in a place where I searched for the right path. “Those who seek, find,” says the Lord, and it’s true. Even now that we have given our lives to Jesus, there are moments of spiritual crisis, but they last only moments, because the Holy Spirit immediately warns us when something is wrong. My approach is to pray a lot in those moments of weakness and let myself be guided by the Holy Spirit, submitting to our Heavenly Father. Thank you, Lord! Forgive us for all our faults. (Francesca)
For those who question whether they’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit, just ask for a sign. Have the courage to reach out and be open to how He may reveal Himself to you.
Let your desire for a relationship lead you to a deeper connection.

Let us pray, Holy Spirit, I invite You to take over my life. Fill me with Your presence and guide my every step. May Your wisdom lead me and Your love transform me. Use me for Your glory, and let my life reflect Your grace and truth.” Amen!

I have met many people who say that they don’t believe they have ever received the Holy Spirit. Here are just ‘some’ of the reasons they gave:
Lack of Emotional Experience:Expecting a dramatic or emotional encounter and not experiencing it. [Seeking emotional experiences indulges the flesh and should be firmly avoided! Scripture frequently highlights that the Holy Spirit’s presence isn’t always marked by dramatic signs or intense emotions; instead, the Spirit often operates in subtle ways. For instance, 1 Kings 19:11, where Elijah encounters GOD not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a gentle whisper. Also, Galatians 5:22, where the fruits of the Spirit are listed like love, joy, and peace. These are never invasive but rather quiet and subtle. We should always rely on our ‘relationship‘ with the Holy Spirit governing our feelings.]
Comparisons: Comparing their experience to others who describe vivid spiritual encounters. [This again just indulges the flesh and should be firmly avoided! Scripture addresses the dangers of comparison in spiritual matters. In 1 Corinthians 12:4, Paul highlights the diversity of spiritual gifts, emphasising the wide array of spiritual experiences. Additionally, 2 Corinthians 10:12 warns against the ‘foolishness’ of comparing ourselves with others, indicating that such actions lack wisdom. We should always rely on our ‘relationship‘ with the Holy Spirit to govern our feelings.]
Unresolved Doubts:Struggling with doubts about faith or spiritual beliefs. [Scripture actually acknowledges that doubt is a part of faith. In Mark 9:24 we see a man ‘coming to Jesus’ and asking him to help his unbelief. To me, this shows that doubt can initially coexist with faith. Also, James 1:5 encourages asking GOD for Wisdom without doubting. This surely recognises that doubt is a common human experience. Once again, until ‘relationship‘ with the Holy Spirit drowns it out!
Lack of Confirmation: Seeking external signs that never appear. [This is addressed in Scripture, which emphasises faith beyond visible evidence. In John 20:29, Jesus tells Thomas, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Similarly, in Matthew 12:39, Jesus says, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign.” We should focus on trusting the Holy Spirit to fulfil His will through us, rather than seeking immediate validation regarding timing, method, and place. Contentment should come from our ‘relationship‘ with the Holy Spirit, guiding both outcomes and emotions.
I’ve aimed to demonstrate that these passages imply faith doesn’t always depend on visible signs or confirmation, and that feelings can be deeply personal and vary greatly among individuals.

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, grant me the heart of a child, content to follow the Holy Spirit without needing to understand the ‘why,’ ‘where,’ or ‘how.’ Help me trust in His guidance completely, knowing that His path is always the best for me.” Amen!

Here’s another compelling testimony, real-life example, and inspiring story to help us delve deeper together into the Holy Spirit, propelling us from unbelief to Faith in Him.
“I attended my first Faith Camp with my daughter in 2006. At the time, I had Hepatitis C from my drug taking, and there wasn’t a reliable cure. On the first night, Pastor Colin invited those needing healing to come forward. Encouraged by the Holy Spirit, I joined many others. Pastor Colin declared healing as he walked past, and the Holy Spirit prompted me to accept it in faith. With my eyes still closed, I envisioned a piece of paper in my hand saying ‘HEP C NEGATIVE!’ This filled me with joy. Time passed, my appointment with the specialist came around, and I told the doctor I no longer needed medication, because I was convinced Jesus had healed me. He smiled politely and put me down for a course of Interferon treatments. At the end of the treatment, they took blood tests and gave me a piece of paper stating: HEP C VIRUS NOT DETECTED! Then, two weeks before Christmas, the sickness benefits stopped! I had no money! Nothing…! The Church gloriously stepped in. I received money, presents for my daughter, and food. So I mumbled something like, “Thank You Lord for the Christmas tree, the food and the presents … I was still speaking when I felt the Presence of GOD, and I heard Him say, “IS THAT ALL, THE DEATH OF MY SON MEANS TO YOU, SALLY?” I fell to my knees, then flat on my face on the floor! The weight of His Presence was crushing, pressing… I was in floods of tears on that floor, for my selfishness. My ingratitude. My lack of appreciation for all that He had done for me. It was about half an hour before the Presence of GOD lifted, and I could move again …” (Sally Ann)

Let us pray, Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for all You’ve done in my life. Thank You for Your constant love, guidance, and healing. I am grateful for the strength and faith You’ve given me, and for the blessings that continue to unfold each day. Thank You for the community and support from those around me, and for Your presence that brings peace and comfort. I am humbled by Your grace and the sacrifice of Your Son, which means more to me than words can ever express. Help me to walk in faith, always remembering Your goodness and mercy. May my life be a testament to Your love.” Amen!
