I have ventured out of the sewing den & had a go at shabby chic!
I found an amazing bargain of a cabinet on eBay £20, brought some paint £8, a roll of wallpaper £12 & some charity shop glass items & voila… I have transformed my hallway.

A while ago back in the Summer, I purchased some moda squares just because I liked the patterns & colours. They have sat in my stash as I have never been too sure what to do with them. To be honest, I still don’t know, yet I’ve started to try & create something.
All I am sure of is it will be a blanket. I have no idea of a pattern, scheme or plan. I’m just sewing & going with the flow. Bit by little bit.
The task so far….
One of my New Years resolutions is to get back into the sewing den & get some more sewing done!
It was a pleasure to have an excuse when I was asked to make another baby quilt. The babies name is Molly rose, so I wanted to add this in, so when I came across the lettered block fabric it started my imagination to flow.
I mixed in some other fabrics including some ‘rose’ print to tie in with the name. Embroidered her date of birth on a heart appliqué & away I went.
I made my own bias binding using the fabrics used. (I so need to practice this binding malarkey!, I used the walking foot for the first time too)
I hope baby Molly likes it.
After the success of my last ‘Rupert’ quilt, I was asked to make a girly one. So with a head full of random colours, all the gear and no idea, I found a pattern to follow to give me a sense of direction!
I have had to fit this one in with work/home and gym commitments, so it feels like I’ve been chipping away at it for ages. I wanted to make sure I produced a nice quilt so took my time!
Overall, im pleased with the result… Hope you like it. More importantly, I hope the lady that has ordered it likes it !!

I locked myself away in the sewing den and made sure I didn’t emerge until I had finished this quilt I have made for my nieces friend who has had a baby called Rupert. So quite clearly, my make was ‘Rupert The Bear’ themed. I was so eager to get started on this new project. It’s the first time I have made something that someone has asked for, I felt on a complete mission!
The rupert fabric was quite difficult to source, after a bit if bartering with a seller on eBay I managed to purchase these squares. (If anyone has any of this fabric in the form of curtains/duvets, you’re sitting on a gold mine!)
I was slightly scared whilst cutting out the squares, I felt so responsible for this vintage material! I’ve never cut so slowly in my life!
I then went shopping yesterday and purchased some fabrics that I thought would match well and some nice thick wadding. I also found a Rupert The bear book, so I put that with it too.
I created a pattern and set to work.
Bearing in mind I am very new to this quilting lark, I am extremely pleased with the finished piece. I found the hardest part was binding it, quite clearly there is a nack to it that I have yet to perfect. I unpicked it twice!!
So…after a whole day locked away, this is my creation…what do you think??
I had fun mooching around the charity shops today.
Excited indeed I was when I came across a ‘sewing’ section!! I am determined at some point of my sewing journey I may even learn to make an item of clothing! So when I stumbled across loads of sewing patterns, I had to buy them all!! (Slight addictive obsessive disorder)
Amongst my find also was a large amount of fabric, some Aida for my future cross stitch! (Cough cough) And some embroidery transfers.
As the title said, I’ve got all the gear, but no idea!! I need to do more making and less talking about it !
But hey…what an impressive find!
I’m not naturally full of great ideas. I love to look at other peoples work and find it fascinating where their ideas came from.
I sat in my room yesterday with all my ‘stuff’ out trying to think what to make. The best I came up with was these key rings. The idea was for them to look rustic, I’m unsure if the just look ‘tatty’?
I then sat there going through my fabrics and decided to embark on another quilt, which it haven’t finished yet, but here is how far I’ve got. I’m working on the same idea as my cat quilt, but with different fabrics. I think the cute animal squares are great. I intend on adding some other appliqués to it to jazz it up..awaiting great idea!
I have no idea what to do with it when I’ve finished it though. I’m sure it’ll find a home somewhere.
I had a day off work today and had promised a day in the sewing room. After a long lay in, shower, hair wash, kitchen clean bla bla bla…I finally got in there this afternoon. Once in there with all my ‘stuff’ out and ready to go, I realised I hadn’t even planned my next make! I decided to get out my ‘patchwork’ book and get some practice in and try some things out of it. So I created these:
I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with them at all !! I’m sure something will crop up.
I then found a pattern for something a step further from these squares, so embarked on this and ended up creating this quilted patchwork pillow! It has many faults. A) some squares are bigger than others b) the border is not equal c) I rushed it to finish it off.
Although saying all of its bad points, I still am proud of it as it’s another ‘first’. I need to remember to cut out things bigger than needed to allow for seam allowances, then my things may end up equal sizes.
I think this ‘quilting’ lark is certainly something that takes a lot of practice !!!
I visited the NEC with my mum last week for another craft show ‘sewing for pleasure’. Once again, I left in total awe of the talented people there and their amazing abilities. I went there quite clearly with cats & quilts on the brain. I came away with cat fabric, bias binding and wadding.
So..at the weekend I embarked on a new project. A patchwork quilt for my cats to sit on in my sewing room. The fabric patterns are squares with cats on along with some sewing patterned fabric. The quilt says it all for me really, my love of sewing combined with my obsessive love of cats 🙂
this was my first attempt at bias binding and it certainly looks easier than it actually is to use. I have some ‘puckering’ of the bias? Any suggestions what I have done wrong to have that happen folks? I used 2 different colours too (the lengths I brought were not long enough, so had to improvise) so my corners aren’t great? In general, I am over the moon with my first attempt.
I found a template for the cute cat heart patch to put in the corner to finish it off too! I love it !
The big test will be if I can actually allow my furry friends to sit on it 🙂
It must be that Easter is on its way that my new makes seem to be rabbits! This little bunny is from a magazine pattern. As soon as I saw it, I just had to give it a go. I successfully made and stuffed the body, crocheted a little jumper and made the cute little dress. Another first for me 🙂 I’ve never made ‘clothes’ for anything. The design and pattern was so much more simple than I had first thought.
I love it! I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it though…
