Once a year I participate in World Book Night and 2014 marks my third time. Volunteers are given 20 copies of a book to pass out to people. The focus is to get folks who are light readers and turn them into casual readers. Usually, I like heading to the capital building in Austin, Texas but my schedule did not allow me to make the drive. This time, I passed 20 copies of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs around my school, Texas State University. Normally, students at my school don’t like random people stopping them so there was concern I might not be able to pass out all the books. To my delight, people were excited to get something to read. My favorite reaction was a girl sitting on a bench and she said, “I’ll get to read something other than a textbook!” It was a good moment. Overall, it took me only about 20 minutes to pass about the books. It was a short but wonderful experience!
