Our Garden

The garden is based on organic, biodynamic and permaculture principles and practices. We value healthy soil as a foundation for healthy food and prioritise making and using compost and don’t use chemical sprays and fertilisers.

The garden has individual plots and communal gardening spaces. We aim to make it a beautiful, welcoming and productive space for the community.

Benefits:

  • a place for people with shared interests in gardening, food production and/or sustainability to come together for recreation and action
  • mental health boost – a quiet, accessible place for community members to come for a walk, a ponder and some time-out in nature
  • access to organic, seasonal fruit and vegetables
  • access to local cool climate gardening and growing knowledge and skills
  • a model of chemical-free food production, composting and water use efficiency

What we grow
For the last few years our main shared crops have been: apples, pears, garlic, rhubarb, broadbeans and plums. In some years we also get a reasonable crop of peaches, nectarines, berries, pomegranates and quinces. Individual plotholders often grow the following vegies suited to our climate: spinach/chard, broccoli, kale, peas, tomatoes, pumpkin, zucchini, cucumber, beans, corn and carrots.

Join us, support us
There are lots of different ways to get involved – from seasonal micro-volunteering through to becoming a plotholder. See our Membership Brochure and fill out our online application form below.

We have a mix of individual and communal plots, plus there’s raised beds, herb beds and fruit trees. Individual Plotholders have their own bit of dirt, plus share the communal areas. ‘Diggers’ garden in the shared communal areas. Garden supporters are kept updated, receive produce excesses and are welcome to scratch in the communal patches.
