Our Garden
The garden is based on organic, biodynamic and permaculture principles and practices. We value healthy soil as a foundation for healthy food and prioritise making and using compost and don’t use chemical sprays and fertilisers.
The garden has individual plots and communal gardening spaces. We aim to make it a beautiful, welcoming and productive space for the community.
Benefits:
- a place for people with shared interests in gardening, food production and/or sustainability to come together for recreation and action
- mental health boost – a quiet, accessible place for community members to come for a walk, a ponder and some time-out in nature
- access to organic, seasonal fruit and vegetables
- access to local cool climate gardening and growing knowledge and skills
- a model of chemical-free food production, composting and water use efficiency
What we grow
For the last few years our main shared crops have been: apples, pears, garlic, rhubarb, broadbeans and plums. In some years we also get a reasonable crop of peaches, nectarines, berries, pomegranates and quinces. Individual plotholders often grow the following vegies suited to our climate: spinach/chard, broccoli, kale, peas, tomatoes, pumpkin, zucchini, cucumber, beans, corn and carrots.
