Online Market

Let’s face it. Everything is already online. Every thing. What are the things we should consider when shopping online? Here is an insight:

Convenience

If all websites are https – It is becoming more common for e-commerce sites to become “https” compliant but there are still plenty of sites that aren’t. Complying to this would make it more convenient for consumers to trust sellers since they will be revealing confidential information such as their credit/debit cards or bank accounts.

24/7 customer support – Having 24/7 customer supports means immediate concerns can be addressed right away. Should I need to cancel, update, or inquire about an order late at night I’d be able to do so rather than wait for the next day and be told it’s too late to make any changes.

Less Convenient

No exact size dimensions – One of the biggest benefits of shopping directly at the shop is that you can measure the product such as clothing or shoes before buying them. If there were no exact size dimensions provided online then it would not help at all to make a proper decision before purchase.

No order tracking on shipments–When I shop I want to have the product right away, the closest solution to this online is to have the product shipped right away for an extra price or simply track your order to have the peace of mind that it is on its way. If this feature wasn’t available I would shop less online.

3 products I’d buy without hesitation:

  • Clothing – Clothing is the probably the most common product bought online and doesn’t pose much of a risk so there’s really no need to think much before buying some.
  • Airline ticket – As for airline tickets, it would depend on the situation like for example if I came across a great airfare deal even if it was to someplace I never planned on visiting I’d still buy that ticket because it is an opportunity that isn’t always available.
  • Books – I wouldn’t hesitate buying books online simply because if I am looking for a particular book I would already know what it’s about and there’s no need to decided on various factors such as size, color, etc.

3 products I’d think about before buying:

  • Online courses – As much as I’d love to learn stuff online I’d think twice before investing on online courses. The main factor would be searching for customer reviews, I’d want to see how people thought about it first because once I buy it I will be investing time into learning it as well.
  • Gadgets – Similar to online courses I check for reviews on gadgets first before making a decision to buy one. There are a lot of sites and even YouTube videos dedicated to testing out gadgets so that you don’t’ have to.
  • Food–I see a lot of online vendors selling food and whenever I see their pictures I immediately want to try them but most often than not I don’t. This is probably because I prefer to have something right away rather than wait a couple of days for their next group delivery.

3 products I’d never consider buying:

  • Music–Not that I’m not into supporting musicians but I can’t remember the last time I actually bought music online. I usually just download or stream it, the ease of doing this without the cost is the main reason why.
  • Medicine–If I need to buy a product that will literally affect my life then I would rather be safe than sorry and buy it directly from the pharmacy.
  • Animals – Having a pet is a responsibility and it starts from the source, I wouldn’t buy them online even if the seller were truly legit. I just want to minimize risk and have the peace of mind that the pet I have is safe.

Easy Access: The Digital Hemisphere

The most advanced technology available these days can be, sometimes, found clasped by a five-year old’s sweaty hands.

The more technology advances, the more people gets a hold of it. Things have become simpler. It is what people want and need. To simplify things. Why complicate them, right?

In the olden days, people have been communicating through snail mail, morse code, or telegraph which usually takes days and months to get to the person you are reaching. After those times, people were communicating through wires. Who would have thought mankind is capable of doing great things. But it does not end there. ‘Lo and behold! Someone invented Wireless Fidelity. Or simply put, Wi-Fi.

Companies have been using the internet to promote, market, and sell their brands, products, or services offered. Strong brands have created informative and interactive websites to let people know what they can offer. Public and private companies went paperless transactions because of the world wide web! Everything became accessible.

Working in an industrial sales and services field, the company I work with handles transactions online. Even when joining bids for government procurement (see philgeps.gov.ph) or filing our taxes. We pay our taxes online. For marketing, social media is the best place to advertise because everyone, and I mean every one, is on social media. Social media is one way to fish for clients.

It is a big risk for one company to divulge important information to the internet because everyone has access. It is also one big risk for misinformation. You have to maintain a standard of how you should present your company/brand to people all over the world. Preferably, there should only be one person or department in-charge of such responsibility so that people will rely on only one source.

Be careful what you post online. People can alter information with just a few twitches in the program or could get into your accounts and might access one of your confidential conversations with clients online.

It is one big digital world out there.

Security: My Walls Are High.

To whom this may concern,

With the technology existing today and the knowledge people acquire on how to utilize advances in technology, privacy is a huge security issue. Social media and online transactions are examples of such. The advancements existing today is beneficial to our comfort in shopping, paying, booking, and other online transactions. People do not realize the danger underlying within these exchange information within the virtual sphere.

How certain are we on giving up our credit card details online? We are all aware that identity thieves are a common menace to all credit card holders. These impersonators have been lavishly spending money they do not have. The ones who are paying for these irresponsible purchases are the mindless credit card holders.

Security is very vital in exchanging information between companies and other existing establishments. Within a company, there are networks that interconnect with each other. Information can be passed easily within different divisions that can help employees interact with one another.

In instances that there will be a breach of security, communicating with a third party (outsource) compared to an existing in house it will endanger the company’s confidential data and strategic plans.  Hiring an in house it will add trust and assurance within the employee-manager relationship as well as the in house it is more familiar with regards to the working environment and processes that undergo internally in the company.

If in any case the security software fails  to uphold a certain task, in house IT can act on it quickly and more efficiently, whereas outsource IT might have a slower turnaround period when encountered with software, hardware, and technical difficulties. Furthermore, outsource IT might demand additional pay for their maintenance services. In house IT does not require charges per maintenance service and check up, rather at a fixed rate.

Still, a company has an option to choose which type of security they prefer. It is up to a company to decide which type of service that is beneficial to them pertaining to the needs and level of security.

To whom this may concern,

All companies, managements and organizations value a vital commodity: information technology. It is utilized to store, transfer and gather data and information. Companies need professionals who have expertise in management information systems for businesses to function with efficiency.

Successful businesses thrive because of successful employees. That being said, managers are one of the critical components of each business. It is important for managers to be the lever of the organization, employees and information system. In order for the system to work without a hitch, managers of each company should acquire fundamental skills pertaining to information technology.

Technology is always evolving and it is hard to keep up. Social networking sites, apps, cellphones and computers are among those who dominate our technological advancements. A core skill for an MIS manager is to be in-the-know about our rapid-changing technology. Companies use information technology for different purposes, and the MIS manager’s job will be to manage these systems for them to work most productive and competent.

Since common people who work in businesses apply technology to help improve business procedures, they should know how to analyze business processes. The manager’s responsibility is to identify incapabilities and issues in the processes and evaluate what the are the information or data required. The next step is to turn up with resolutions that deal with the deficiencies. The MIS manager’s analytical skills are very useful in this system.

MIS managers are required not only to work with electric components and systems but also with the members of the organization. Managers need to embody communication and interpersonal skills. They would also need skills in management to make the necessary adjustments to make the information systems better.

IT and Me

To whom this may concern,

On point: I do not know anything about Information Technology.

Although, during college, I have been acquainted with people who were studying IT and, now, I consider some of them my closest, truest friends.

I may have encountered anything or at least something about the subject but it was probably buried in the back of my mind. Of course, I remember some of my IT friends talking about binary, that when I look at it, it reminded me of matrices I learned when I was in high school. Or maybe the time when they were talking about programming which I am not sure if I was even paying attention. I am not even sure if knowing how to use MS Excel or MS Word might be considered if there is a little bit of IT in me. Even in high school, we were taught how to create websites and animation which is all a blur to me.

Maybe I have a little idea of what Information Technology is. You can call me fickle-minded if you must. But, that does not mean I am not willing to learn the subject. There is always room for learning and I would like to think that this is a start of a beautiful friendship: IT and Me.
