It is a sad conclusion to reach for a conceptually inventive game with so much heart and good intentions, but A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia is just not good. The idea of using the multiple transformations of an extraterrestrial partner rather than the abilities of the main character to navigate through platforming challenges is incredibly clever, but its materialization is marred by presentation issues as well as gameplay shortcomings, while being ultimately doomed by undercooked design. Fortunately, this lovable framework was not lost for good, as it would eventually be fully realized on a charming reboot originally released for the Wii. In this first iteration, though, the idea goes to waste, even if the fondness that exists towards it is understandable due to how the property displays a level of conceptual creativity that is sadly rare for the niche of child-friendly games.
