A huge test for the USA

Well, well, it’s Harris versus Trump! It’s female versus male. It’s non white versus white. It’s relatively young versus relatively elderly. It’s highly educated versus not so much! It’s prosecute the law breakers, liars, misogynists and assaulters of females, versus law breakers, liars, misogynists and assaulters of females.

Joe Biden had to stand aside – it was obvious. Maybe not to Biden initially, but common sense prevailed – following intense pressure, of course – and he then  nominated the correct person, I believe.

All of this is regurgitating the known. What is unknown is how voters who aren’t devoted Democrats or Republicans will vote.

My view is this. If Harris wins, particularly if the result is close, Trump supporters will agitate, disclaim, possibly riot and may be violent. This would significantly hurt the USA’s stability and its claim to be a democracy.  If Trump wins, most Democrat supporters will accept that the democratic process has spoken, and they will seek legal ways to minimise Trump’s ultra conservative agenda.

Whatever the outcome, the USA has a very important date with destiny on 5 November!

Not Trump, but stuff from a typical newspaper

The app for the British newspaper, “The Daily Mail”, has an Australian version.  Today’s stories from that app are, of course, mainly about the shooting of Trump.

Of the remainder of today’s stories, I have quoted some of those headlines in part or in full, as a comment on the standard of journalism in much of the Fourth Estate. Make of it what you will!

. terrible mistake

. Horror

. horrific workplace

. VERY distasteful habit

. sex act that gives me the ick

. dismissed her symptoms for MONTHS

. I nearly died

. staggering excuse

. My fiance dumped me

. terrifying discovery

. spray at ‘privileged’ private schoolboy

. brutal one-word response

. Eric Clapton, 79, goes shirtless

. ‘toy boy tradie’

. she needed to pee

. racy displays

Trump again! What is he and what will he do?

Let’s start with a look at the traits of a sociopath!

  • Lack of empathy for others.
  • Impulsive behavior.
  • Attempting to control others with threats or aggression.
  • Using intelligence, charm, or charisma to manipulate others.
  • Not learning from mistakes or punishment.
  • Lying for personal gain.
  • Showing a tendency toward physical violence and fights.

Is this Trump? Sounds like it to me, but the only certainty when it comes to Trump, is that there is no certainty!

I would rather be writing about almost anything else, rather than giving time to Trump, but I’ve just read an article about him, in The Conversation, an excellent universities based publication. The article was wholly about what might be expected in a second Trump presidency.

What a waste of words! He might do this, he could decide that, he will get revenge on blah, blah, blah! I suspect that no-one, not even the orange bozo himself, knows what he will do if there are enough misinformed voters to let the inmates run the asylum.

Maybe I will offer my opinion to the author of the article in The Conversation? All I would need is the following lyrics by Metallica!

Enter Sandman

Say your prayers, little one
Don’t forget, my son
To include everyone

I tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the Sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We’re off to Never—, Neverland

Something’s wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren’t of Snow White

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon’s fire
And of things that will bite

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We’re off to Never—, Neverland

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Pray the Lord my soul to take

Hush little baby, don’t say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It’s just the beasts under your bed
In your closet, in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We’re off to Never—, Neverland

We’re off to Never—, Neverland
Take my hand
We’re off to Never—, Neverland
Take my hand
We’re off to Never—, Neverland
We’re off to Never—, Neverland
We’re off to Never—, Neverland
We’re off to Never—, Neverland

Choice

Joe Biden was called “an elderly man with a poor memory”, by Special Counsel Robert Hur yesterday. Clearly, Bob Hur thinks he’s Ben Hur!

Of course Biden is elderly! It’s usually the case when you are born in 1942! He has a poor memory! I’m nowhere near 81, and I can not remember when Beau Biden died either! At least Hur was accurate about the “man” part.

Trump, on the other hand, was called “a dangerously recidivistic, misogynistic and deranged psychopath, who if elected President again, will destroy anyone who doesn’t believe he is Jesus”, by me one second ago.

There is no need to trawl through my words, because they are true. I said so.

I like Joe Biden, but the polls seem to indicate that he will struggle against Trump. Is Joe the best choice to keep Toxic T away from a nuclear arsenal? I think not.

My solution? Kamala Harris versus Nikki Haley. I think that a contest between two intelligent, thoughtful and respectful women, would mean that the stupid games that men play would be avoided. Maybe I’m just a misguided optimist?

The likelihood of my choice happening? Somewhere between zero and impossible.

Good luck USA! You will certainly need it!

Is the Voice doomed?

More surveys and polls indicate that a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum is looking less and less likely.

The conservatives support a ‘No’ vote, of course, and their stand is not about politics, point scoring, or wanting to stick it up the Labor Government rather than progressing First Australians lives, of course! And the sky is green and the moon is made of cheese!

The naysayers’ arguments can be refuted easily, but the bottom line of their stand is not about logic or thoughtful consideration. It’s this: once again, non Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, will decide what’s best for them!

Argue about the legalities, the Constitutional niceties, or why it’s all too complicated however much you like, but the reality is that it’s about racism.

The Voice is getting laryngitis

Support in Australia for the proposed indigenous Voice to Parliament is waning – now less than 50% in the last survey and heading south!

It may be early days in the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ campaigns, but at this point the likelihood of the yes side securing a majority of votes in a majority of States is a bit bleak.

Conservative forces have been successful in sowing doubt in people’s minds. For example: not enough detail about how it would work; the Voice will interfere in the day to day minutiae of government; Indigenous Australians only want a treaty.

The vast majority of those conservatives are not Indigenous Australians, but that’s ok because it is right and proper and normal that IAs get told what is best for them by people who know.

NO, it’s not right and it’s not proper! If this referendum is lost it will be a shining beacon on just how racist Australia really is.

More Americans killing other Americans

Another day, another slaughter of little children and adults. This time it’s at a school in Nashville.

More, “oh, it’s terrible, what a tragedy, shock, horror, etc etc etc.”. BUT NOTHING EVER CHANGES! YES, I’M SHOUTING! IT’S WORTH SHOUTING ABOUT!

But it’s too late, of course. If the impossible happened and the USA banned personal weapon ownership today, there would still be millions of guns and rifles in millions of households. There would be civil war if an American government tried to ban guns and rifles and/or said these weapons must be handed in. Add Trumpian rhetoric and other ultra right insanity, and extraordinary problems lie ahead for the land of the free!

You can’t eat submarines

Hundreds of billions of dollars will be spent on a few nuclear powered subs by Australia’s governments over the next several decades. Absolutely inevitably, this obscene figure will blow out, as will the finish date of all of the boats!

As the not so serious but regularly accurate online newspaper ‘The Betoota Advocate’ said, having these subs will delay a Chinese invasion by about 14 hours!

China will have about 70 nuclear powered subs by the time we have 5! The whole scenario around these grossly expensive tin cans is bazaar. Paul Keating is correct, the Australian Labor Party has made a serious mistake with this decision, and the fact that the far right federal Opposition fully supports the ALP government proves this point.

Bonkers!

Dutton’s cringy backflip

Peter Dutton, Leader of The Oppose Everything, has said in Parliament, that he was wrong to walk out of former PM Kevin Rudd’s apology to The Stolen Generation in 2008.

Genuine anguish or political expediency? The forthcoming Aston by-election may have something to do with it, but then again, the man who looks more like Lord Voldemort than Ralph Fiennes did, regularly reinforces his hard Right credentials, so I have to conclude that he was not genuine. I cannot be certain of course, but the idea of a warm and cuddly Dutton is quite freaky!

Don’t believe you Pete!
