Flash Talk
You’re about to enter a room full of strangers, where you will have exactly four minutes to tell a story that would convey who you really are. What’s your story?
Hello everyone. My name is Tim Brown and I’d like to tell you what is important to me.
Faith. I realize there is a Creator who is beyond my understanding but have accepted Him for who He is; “I am, that I am”. My faith becomes personal because I’ve accepted that I am so messed up I need Him to forgive me, help me and guide me. His name is Jesus and my faith in Him makes me a better man, husband, father and friend. I fall so short on my own but through Christ I am able to be more than I ever imagined.
Family. My parents were great role models and their love for me was never something I had to guess at. They are gone but because of their example I know better how to love, support and guide my wife and little girl. I met my wife late in life and was not even looking to marry at that point but God had another plan for me. We met at church and I was impressed with her passion for the faith and her willingness to put her faith in action. She went to South American twice on mission trips and was involved in other church ministries. I courted my wife-to-be for almost five years before she would consider anything other than friendship and dating. When we were married it was on July 6th and the temperature was 106 F. My sister-in-law decided to decorate the inside of our car with Silly String. It bakes nicely. Needless to say, but I will anyway, there were still bits of it in the car when we traded it in at the dealership.
My wife and I were not able to have biological children so we adopted a little girl from Hunan Province, China. I’m not sure what we did with our time before she came into our lives but now we have a much richer, fuller life as we enjoy her physical, mental and emotional growth. She loves learning to read and write and her current ambition is to see all the princesses at Disney World.
No family is complete without fur-bearing, four-legged friends. We have been adopted by many wonderful dogs over the years and my daughter loves the dogs with a sweet passion. The largest dog MUST sleep with her. [grin]
Friends. I have had few friends over the years with the exception of one guy I met at work years ago. It took me around twenty years to convince him that there was a God and that He loved my friend in spite of his past or any perceived limitations. I cherish the day he called me at work to say he was ready to accept Christ as His lord and savior. Now I’m proud to call him, brother. Oddly enough, most of my current friends I’ve made via social media.
Miscellaneous. I have loved to ready from my youth. I latched onto Science Fiction and Fantasy and enjoyed ready that genre for many years. I have expanded my range as an adult and enjoy studying the Bible and a larger variety of fiction. I’ve been a Star Trek fan since I watched the original series with my dad during the first run back in the sixties. Babylon 5 is probably my favorite with Firefly as my second.
Hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little about me.
