“Kids, hurry!” their dad shouted from the parking lot as he carefully arranged their bags into the car’s trunk. They were going to spend the day with their grandparents while he met their mother at the hospital. Earlier that morning, he had rushed her there.
Arriving at their grandparents’ house, the children ran in excitedly. They loved the pampering they always received, and they looked forward to spending time on their grandpa’s farm.
They were welcomed with tight, warm hugs from Grandma, while Grandpa was still out back on the farm behind the house. David decided to go meet Grandpa on the farm, while Paul preferred to stay with Grandma.
Out at the farm, Grandpa was attending to the animals. David, the ambitious seven-year-old, was glad to help. He quickly noticed three cows looking uneasy, their udders full and heavy.
“Grandpa, look!” David pointed, concerned.
Grandpa looked over and nodded. “I haven’t milked them in two days,” he said, a bit regretfully.
He bent down, washed the udder and teats, and began to milk the cow as he spoke to David.
“Child, we all need people who will help squeeze out the milk in us—just like these cows need help.”
Trying to explain more simply, he added, “Just like this cow, every one of us was created by God to produce something valuable on earth.”
“David,” he called.
“Yes, Grandpa?”
“You love playing the piano, right? That’s why your dad got you a trainer—to help you get even better. Without that trainer, you wouldn’t be playing so well now. In fact,” he teased, “I might not even enjoy listening to you play!”
David chuckled.
Grandpa continued, “And just like this cow gives us milk, if no one helps the cow, and the milk stays in, the cow will be sick and might even die.”
“Wow!” David exclaimed, eyes wide.
“In the same way,” Grandpa said, “if you don’t have a trainer to help you, the dream you have—to play piano before millions—might never happen.”
“Wowww,” David echoed thoughtfully. “So I need people who will help me become better.”
“That’s brilliant, my boy. That way, you’ll be able to shine your light to the world.”
“Because I am the light of the world!” David said excitedly, remembering that Grandpa had told him this during their last visit.

Back in the kitchen, Paul was happily helping Grandma prepare dinner. He grabbed a stool to stand on and said eagerly, “Grandma, tell me a story!” as he watched her prepare the meal with considerable interest.
“Story time!” Grandma laughed. “I’m going to tell you about a girl named Elizabeth. She is five years old, just like you, and very brilliant too. She was obedient to her parents and loved God so much. In fact, she shares something in common with you. Can you guess what it is?”
“Does she love watching PJ Masks like me?” Paul asked, eyes sparkling.
Grandma chuckled. “No, she loves Jesus—just like you. Jesus was her best friend.”
“Wow! And then what happened?” Paul asked.
“Well,” Grandma continued, “her parents moved to a new town, and she had to go to a new school. There, she made new friends who didn’t love God. They disobeyed their parents and did bad things. Elizabeth started spending time with them, going to their homes, and slowly, she began to act like them.”
“Why, Grandma?” Paul asked, frowning.
“Because they were her friends. She stopped obeying her parents, stopped praying, and didn’t even do her homework until she was forced to.”
Paul looked concerned. “That’s not good.”
“It isn’t,” Grandma replied. “You become like the people you spend time with. That’s why it’s important to have friends who love God. They’ll help you do what pleases Him.”
“Yes, Grandma. So what happened to Elizabeth?”
“She began to fail her exams and was no longer at the top of her class. Worst of all, she stopped pleasing God.”
“I don’t want to be like Elizabeth,” Paul said. “I’ll always be friends with children of God.”
“That’s great, Paul.”

That night, the family gathered at the hospital to welcome the newest member—a baby girl. Both boys excitedly shared their day’s adventures with their parents. Their mother smiled and said, “You’ve both learned something very important today. We all need the right people around us to become who God has created us to be. Just like I needed the doctors and nurses to help bring your sister into the world, you’ll need people to help bring out the gifts inside you.”
It was a memorable day for both boys as they learned the importance of a prophetic company.
Seeds are to be planted and nurtured until they become fruits fit for purpose. In the soil, it breaks dormancy, developing its root system, and matures until it bears new fruits and seeds. Adequate water, sunlight, nutrients, and fertile soil are required for its growth.
In the same vein, God created each of us to be a part of a Body. We are not to exist or thrive in isolation, expecting to fulfill purpose alone.
Every one of us comes from a family—proof that we need people to help us in the attainment of our destiny. In the beginning, God saw that although man had the right environment and resources for fulfilling his purpose, something was still missing: a helpmeet. A partner who would stir up the gifts in him, a nurturer to help birth the possibilities placed within. But not everyone can play that role. In Adam’s case, discernment was required to identify his true purpose partner—even though God had called the animals good, they were not fit to be Adam’s helper. Your prophetic circles are spiritually discerned. Not every good person is right for you.
A prophetic company is not merely a group of people who motivate you into natural works or mundane success. It is a relationship unto Christ—a collective of like-minded, God-driven individuals who recognize the calling upon your life and actively participate in its fulfillment.
It is not hype, hypocrisy, companionship, or a popularity movement. It is formed by spiritual sight, discernment of purpose in others, and a commitment to its realization. These people may be your family, friends, coworkers, leaders, neighbors, mentors, etc. With the right circle of people, the tree becomes a forest, and a flame becomes a wildfire.
We are deeply influenced by our associations.

Proximity profoundly impacts our behavior. James Clear, in his book Atomic Habits, noted that we do not choose our earliest habits—we imitate them. We often follow the tide of our physical environment, absorbing the qualities and practices of those around us. Scripture affirms this reality.
In 1 Samuel 10:5–10, Saul encountered Samuel, and the encounter transformed him. Saul left Samuel with a new heart and was evidently transformed from a mere man to a king. On his way back home, he also met with a company of prophets and prophesied with them. Certain possibilities within us remain dormant until we meet the people God has assigned to unlock them.
A prophetic company fan to flame the possibilities within and dig out buried treasures in you.
The Holy Spirit is the most important company God has given to you.
He is your guide into the fullness of your God-ordained purpose. When you yield to Him, the chambers of possibilities within you are opened. He will not only reveal your purpose but will also lead you to the people appointed to help you fulfil it. He led Cornelius to Paul (, and He can lead your prophetic company to you as long as you submit to Him.
A prophetic company exists for a kingdom assignment.
Jesus sent the disciples out in twos to preach the gospel. Likewise, God sends us spiritual partnerships for His purposes.
However, you have a responsibility to honor and nurture the prophetic relationships God gives you.
Paul and Barnabas were sent by the Holy Spirit as a company, but an unresolved contention caused them to part ways. Purposeful relationships can be lost when not fostered with humility and understanding. Some may never enjoy such divine relationships again.
Ruth and Naomi’s story is a powerful example. Ruth discerned that their bond was more than a family tie—it was a divine connection. Despite the discomfort of leaving her comfort zone, Ruth submitted to Naomi’s mentorship and ultimately became part of the genealogy of Jesus. Orpah, however, went into oblivion because she was unable to discern; she was blinded to the eternal purpose of the relationship she had with her mother-in-law.
KNOW NO MAN AFTER THE FLESH! Discern every relationship by the Spirit of God.
A wrong relationship is destructive. Amnon, motivated by the advice of Jonadab, his friend, raped his sister, which led to his death eventually.
Above all, the most important relationship you can ever have is with Jesus.
He is the foundation upon which all other destiny relationships are built. Without Him, no other connection can be truly fruitful. Jesus desires to have a relationship with you—the kind that defines your path and secures your eternity.
If you want to accept Jesus into your life, you can say the prayer below with faith in your heart. “Dear Jesus, I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
