Oopsie Mummy

Oh my gosh! I guess it has been a long time since we posted on here., 2 whole years. I wish I could say things have been busy but this is not really true. Well I guess one of my resolutions for the new year should have been to update my blogs. Oh deary, well here goes I promise to update more.

Not much has changed here at Daisy Cottage despite advancing a couple of years it has done nothing to dampen Daisy’s spirit for life and mischeif, or the volume of her voice, much to the dismay of the neighbours. She has gained a slight addiction to having increasing amounts of cuddles, which frankly is just fine with me.

More from me and Daisy coming later…

Long time no post

… Gosh I didn’t realise how long it had been since I had posted anything on here. No excuses really, just plain laziness.

So what has gone on in the world of Daisy cottage? Things are going pretty well, Daisy has no been with us for 2 years and 2 months, wow has it really been so long!?! Daisy is doing good, she has lost a little weight and she looks wonderful. I think I am going to start eating Autarky it seems to make you long and lean and have shiny hair, all of which I am lacking.

She still hogs too much room in bed, although she hasn’t actually pushed me out for a while. She does make a great hot water bottle though she regulates the temperature in the bed wonderfully, when it is cold she comes under the covers, when it starts to get to hot she gets out and she doesn’t go freezing cold in the middle of the night like a conventional hot water bottle.

We went on the Dogs Trust waggy walks and she did wonderfully, she was really calm and showed no aggression, I think she loved walking in a huge pack.

She does sometimes get up to mischief though. A couple of weeks ago I was up all night with her keeping an eye on her after she ate a pack of cough sweets, luckily they just contained sugar, but I was up all night making sure she was not going into hypoglycemic shock. She worries me sometimes.

And we also found put Daisy loves the snow, she likes nothing better than walking along shovelling it up with her nose, and she loves catching snowballs, so much so that each time she went into the garden she was bouncing about on her hind legs ready to jump and do a backflip and catch a snowball.

Any I promise to post more regularly in future…

It’s Lubberly out there

The bank holiday weekend weather tempted us out of the house and up to the Yorkshire Dales for fun and frolics of a water based nature. We packed Daisy into the back of the car and headed to the hills. The closer we got to the hills the more excited she got, she got so excited in the car it was as though she was trying to say “Look, a giant play park for dogs, let me out, let me out!”

On Friday we went to Leyburn for breakfast and a look around the market, and Daisy even got fed some bits of scone by dog phobic Nana Sue. We then went to Aysgarth Falls, see the pics below, but it was a little too fast flowing for dog paddling, so she had to be content with foraging in the woods.

Sunday morning bright and early we headed up to Malham and visited Goredale Scar where Daisy was happy to explore all the fresh water stream being fed by the waterfall in the Scar. I think she drank a little too much as when she gotb ack in the car she put her head between the two front seats and gave out an almighty echoing burp.

The yesterday she went swimming in the stream in the village and today has been to run riot on the football fields. Not surprisingly she is a tired but rather contented little pooch.

She doesn’t like frosty feet

The weather has been so cold lately and Daisy isn’t keen on  going out in the cold. Despite having a nice snugly warm winter coat she hates it, she is even reluctant to go out in the garden to “do her business”. She doesn’t like going out in it one bit. And as for the snow, she really didn’t like that it was far too slippy for her to walk in, it all got compacted into ice and she was terrified of falling.

She has also taken to sleeping downstairs, normally she sleeps at the foot of our bed but has taken to making a little nest in the blankets and cushions on the sofa and sleeping down there at night. Which I for one am not going to complain about as she is keeping out of my way and leaving me with more room to spread out on the bed.

An Update

It has been a while since anything was posted here. Mostly down to laziness, some of it due to the fact it is winter and all the exciting summer adventures are a distant memory as living in one of the wettest parts of the country means that all the great walkies spots are water logged.

On the 9 November it was Daisy’s GOTCHA day. It doesn’t seem like she has been here for a year already as time has flown by so fast, but in other senses she is so settled it seems like she has been here forever. We have really enjoyed her being about, she is so full of fun and constantly makes us laugh, and has been an invaluable companion to me while I have been ill. Let’s hope we have many more years of love with Daisy.

Daisy went for her boosters and her check up. She was good as gold and let the vet poke and prod at her, and just sat and went along with it all so graciously. The thing that slightly puzzled me was the was saying “She is getting broad in the back, Staffies get like that”. What does that mean? Is that meaning she if fat, that she is being true to her staffy heritage? She is already on meager rations as it is as she was getting a little weighty but she has lost weight and you can see and feel her ribs and everything. But this has left me paranoid about what i should do about her.

Daisy still loves her daily walks but she has still never gotten over her phobia of other dogs. I don’t think she ever will, but we still love her to bits.

On Ilkla Moor baht ‘at?!

It was a sunny old morning so we decided to take Daisy to a new place to explore. So we got her in the car and took her Ilkley Moor. It is only a few miles away and she was excited before she was even out of the car. She ran most of the way up the hill to the middle of the rocks, bouncing in and out of the heather, taking in all the new sights and smells.

We then climbed to the moorland at the top of the rocks, just in time for the sun to come out. Daisy had tons of fun running along in and out of the puddles and generally going round in circles. She then had a sniff around all the way back down to the car park even taking time to check out the top of a large boulder.

Hopefully she enjoyed exploring a new place in the sunshine, I know I did.

She is sending her Momma to an early grave

Daisy has been with us for nearly a year and has suddenly decided over the past few weeks that she has a naughty streak and she intends to use it. It all started when she shredded a book I was reading, she could have just shredded the front of the book and leave me to read the ending, but that just wouldn’t do and she took a little from the front and a little from the back for good measure. Now I will never know how the ending was.

She has also taken a liking to the post at the foot of the bed and seems to use this as a giant tooth pick for cleaning her gnashers. Which not only make the bed look a little worn it also make a sound horrendous enough to rival that old favourite of rubbing your fingers nails down a chalk board.

And the list of indiscretions does not cease these, she has taken to removing my brand new cowprint slipper boots off the shoe rack whilst we are out of the house, apparently a kong now longer satisfies her boredom. And it goes on… I had some acid reflux the other night and she helped herself to a Rennie from the packet whilst I was distracted in the kitchen.

Best of all happened this morning. We exited the bedroom and while I was attending to my morning ablutions I saw her do into the spare room have a sniff and come straight out, then go down the stairs. I heard much crunching and found out that she had been down into the kitchen, popped the lid of the bin and helped herself to the bones from last nights lamb chops and had been devouring them half way up the stairs. So now the house has descended into a bone fragments stuck in the stomach paranoia, I won’t be happy until she has had a few days for the bones to pass. Looks like we need a more dog proof bin.

Then there is the return with vengeance of the dreaded night terrors. She goes through periods where everytime she drifts off to sleep she has nightmares and her hole body moves and shakes and she squeals terrified screams in her sleep and if she is woken up suddenly by a noise outside the house she runs around the house terrified and barking at anything and everything. It breaks my heart to see her like this.

Luckily she is half asleep on the sofa right now. Looking like butter wouldn’t melt, but we know otherwise.

One word from Mum and I do as I like

It’s a lovely sunny Saturday morning so we took Daisy out for a morning constitutional as we are going to be out quite a lot today. So it was off to the stream fir a quick dip, can’t say I envied her much as although it was sunny it was still a wee bit nippy out. Then we went off for a walk in the sun to give her chance to dry off and warm up a little.

Then we took Daisy up to the park for some on the long lead recall training this morning. Letting her loose interest in us and then shouting her to come to one or the other of us. When James shouts her she runs up to him and jumps up at his belly or circles round his legs.

However, when I shout Daisy she runs towards me, giving me lots of eye contact and then about 6 feet away she darts off to the right hand side of me and carries on running. Actually we do find it quite amusing that she definitely does not want to come up tome. But it is damn well annoying, as if she ever got off her lead I would have to do a flying rugby tackle to get hold of her.

So we know who is the favourite out of Mummy and Daddy don’t we!

It’s not Frisbee it’s Snatch

I took Daisy to Silsden for a game of Frisbee. I don’t think she entirely understands the concept of the game. The game seems to have turned into, who can get the Frisbee off the floor the quickest should I get there first I get her grabbing the Frisbee in her mouth and then putting her paws on my legs and pulling until I relent and let her have the Frisbee. Should I go to get the other Frisbee then she drops the one she has and the process is repeated again and again and again Until I gave up altogether and try to stash the Frisbee’s in my pocket and we head off elsewhere.

I gave up on the Frisbee lesson and we headed down to Jumpin Jacks on the beck and Daisy went for a good old swim. She is now making the spare bed very wet and stinky but she is tired and happy.
