I have officially started season two of my podcast, Confusional Arousals. That usually occurs when you finish an investigation or exploration of a story and need a break to start over again.

That is not the case with my podcast. I have started a new season because I expanded with a new technology. For those who have listened to the podcast, you may have noticed some fun, quirky music in the intro, outro, or interludes. The music was created with an AI prompt in the Brev.AI app. I bumped my subscription up, and now I can write the entire lyrics for the song.

This podcast, the premise of which was, when I visited my elderly parents, my mother read me one of her favorite poems, “Hope” is the thing with feathers, by Emily Dickinson. This led me to make other connections which brought up many memories.

I had written my emotional response to that poem the first time I read it. The song that I wrote is based on my poem.

To Emily

I bought a bumper sticker yesterday

It read,

“Hope is the thing with feathers.”

A famous quote from a famous poet.

But why isn’t hope that thing?

It flies.

It floats.

It dances in the sky.

Sometimes it attempts to touch the sun,

Only to fail and fall earthward.

But hope remains hopeful.

And so – do I.
