GRAMMY NOTES: I am reposting the meditation about alignment that I posted yesterday, because it really hit me where I live. I have been thinking and praying about it a lot. I have wasted far too many of the hours God has given me brooding over the past and fearing for the future.

There are times and reasons to think about the past or to plan for the future, but as C.S. Lewis has pointed out, those times and reasons are only aligned with God’s will when they are the legitimate business of the present. Our lives only intersect with eternity in the now. The past is fixed; the futures we imagine may or may not happen. Our holy task is to focus on being aligned with God’s will in each present moment.

Minnesota Update

Protesters disrupted services at Cities Church in St. Paul where a local official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement serves as a pastor.

U.S. Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said her agency is investigating the incident for possible federal civil rights violations.

Surprisingly (to me), the most relevant federal statute may be The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE). While it has primarily been used to prosecute peaceful anti-abortion protesters, it actually prohibits the use of force, threats, or physical obstruction to interfere with individuals seeking reproductive health services or exercising their religious rights at places of worship.

Cities Church could potentially also take this to a local court and sue for criminal trespass. Churches (including their buildings, grounds, parking lots, and related facilities) are typically considered private property, even when they are open to the public for services, events, or general visitation. This means the church leadership (or authorized representatives, like pastors, elders, or property managers) can control access, decide who is welcome, and revoke permission for anyone to be there.

These protesters engaged in criminal trespass by knowingly and intentionally entering to disrupt and then refusing to leave when asked. Penalties vary by state and severity and can include fines, jail time, probation, or community service. Our constitutional rights to gather and express ourselves are only guaranteed on government property. Private property owners get to choose when and how they happen.

2A: The DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel has just issued a 15-page opinion declaring that the 1927 federal ban on mailing firearms through the USPS is unconstitutional and can not be enforced anymore. Ammunition and gunpowder still can’t be mailed for safety reasons.

AMERICAN HISTORY: On January 19, 1840, US Naval captain Charles Wilkes became the first American to explore the coast of Antarctica. Though whalers traveled the waters near Antarctica, no one had mapped out the land.

BOARD OF PEACE: Trump is forming an international body that he will lead to guide the second phase of his peace plan in the Gaza Strip. “The United States has been trying to do this transaction for over 150 years. Many Presidents have tried, and for good reason, but Denmark has always refused. The tariff will increase to 25 percent on June 1.

MILITARY: Last week, we took out Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, an ISIS leader affiliated with the terrorist group that killed two U.S. service members and an interpreter on Dec. 13, 2025. Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, said. “There is no safe place for those who conduct, plot, or inspire attacks on American citizens and our warfighters. We will find you.”

AMERICAN HISTORY: On January 18, 1911, Eugene Ely flew a Curtis Pusher biplane from this location, Tanforan Park in San Bruno, CA, and landed on a wooden platform constructed aboard the Navy Cruiser USS Pennsylvania anchored in the San Francisco Bay. This, the first ever landing of an airplane on a ship, contributed significantly to the development of Naval aviation.

HEALTH: I am very grateful to have lived in a community that said no to fluoride. They tried once that I’m aware of. I wrote a letter to the editor pointing out that it would be a huge waste of money to dump fluoride into the millions of gallons of water we use for washing and flushing. Since people who wanted fluoride and could afford it were able to get it in drops and toothpaste, I suggested making it available to low income families at the free vaccination clinics already serving that population. I like to think my thoughts contributed to the city dropping the issue.

WOMEN’S SPORTS: The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has launched Title IX investigations into 18 school districts in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Washington. Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey said, “Time and again, the Trump administration has made its position clear: Violations of women’s rights, dignity, and fairness are unacceptable. We will leave no stone unturned in these investigations to uphold women’s right to equal access in education programs, a fight that started over half a century ago and is far from finished.”

GRAMMY NOTES: In 1979, my then-boyfriend and I went to a donut shop in the wee hours to discuss the pros and cons of getting married. As I wrote them out on a napkin, the truckers who were also there helped out. LOL We met 47 years ago this month and celebrated our 46th anniversary last fall. ❤

AMERICAN HISTORY: Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony. “The first citizen of Philadelphia,” Franklin was a printer, inventor, postmaster, and the only person to sign all four of the key documents in US history.

EDUCATION: A guidance counselor at Marshall Elementary School in Eureka, Kansas, asked sixth graders to name their heroes. But when students named Charlie Kirk or President Trump, she scolded them and refused to allow the names to be added to the board.

Parents complained about this viewpoint discrimination, leading to a faux “apology” to students, during which the principal instructed students that, in the future, they should bring concerns to school officials – not their parents. The principal stated that the school should also be considered their family.

The ACLJ has filed a federal discrimination complaint to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Education, asking for an investigation into the school district policies and practices and seeking formal findings that the school engaged in religious and political viewpoint discrimination and violated fundamental parental rights.

ELMER FRAUD: Rep. Mike Wiener (R-Long Prairie) has introduced articles of impeachment against Governor Tim Walz, outlining four separate charges.

  1. Article one alleges Walz violated his oath of office “by knowingly concealing or permitting the concealment of widespread fraud within Minnesota​ state administered programs, despite repeated warnings, audits, reports, and public indicators of​ systematic abuse.”
  2. Article two alleges Walz violated his oath of office by “actions and omissions that interfered with lawful oversight, investigation, or corrective​ action related to fraud in Minnesota state agencies.”
  3. Article three alleges Walz violated his oath of office by “placing political consideration above lawful administration, thereby breaching the​ public trust.”
  4. Article four alleges Walz violated his oath of office by “failing in his constitutional duty to faithfully execute the laws of the State of Minnesota, particular laws governing stewardship of public funds.”

SCIENCE: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited, lifelong and painful blood disorder in which red blood cells are shaped like crescents instead of discs, restricting blood flow and causing organ damage.

Sufferers live with chronic, often extreme pain, frequent hospitalizations, and shortened life expectancy. Some sufferers have been cured through bone marrow transplants, but these required rare, perfectly matched donors. New treatments recently approved by the FDA require only partial matches, offering the possibility of cures for the vast majority of sufferers.

USPS: Prices for shipping packages will be going up tomorrow and, in July, the cost of a first-class stamp will increase from 73 to 78 cents. Also, with the retiring of the penny, cash change is now being rounded to the nearest nickel. Change amounts ending in 1, 2, 6 or 7 cents are rounded down. Amounts ending in 3, 4, 8 or 9 cents are rounded up. Rounding only applies to cash transactions, not to check, debit or credit card transactions.

VAXXXINE: U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered the dismissal of federal charges against Dr. Michael Kirk Moore Jr., a Utah physician who was charged with having destroyed government-provided COVID-19 vaccines, issuing fraudulent vaccination record cards, and administering saline injections to some children instead of the actual vaccine, at the parents’ request, so the children would believe they had been vaccinated. Bondi said, “Dr. Moore gave his patients a choice when the federal government refused to do so. He did not deserve the years in prison he was facing. It ends today.”

GRAMMY NOTES: In Junior High, I walked 2 miles to and from school. To avoid having to drive me when it was pouring rain, my mother bought me a bright yellow plastic poncho with a hood that had a brim on it. I looked like a giant rubber duckie. AMERICAN HISTORY: On January 16, 1786, Virginia enacted Thomas Jefferson’s Statute for Religious Freedom. It was one of the most important laws ever passed by the Virginia Assembly, provided inspiration for the Bill of Rights, and was one of the achievements of which Jefferson was most proud.

BORDER: In December, 14 of the top 20 metro areas with the largest illegal migrant populations, home list prices declined year-over-year. The three metro areas that saw modest price increases are all so-called “sanctuary cities.”

CALIFORNICATION: The Democrats’ plan to increase the already staggering tax burden they demand of their wealthiest residents ignores the inconvenient truth that said residents have a constitutional right to move elsewhere.

The article linked below claims that California stands to lose $20 billion in tax revenue in 2026 as a direct result of just one company – Google – relocating to avoid the new tax. There is no way to calculate the dollar figure of such a loss; however, $20 billion is likely not far off the mark.

Google’s relocation will cost California’s greedy socialists not just Google’s corporate taxes and the personal income taxes of its two billionaire owners. It will also cost them the personal, school, city, and sales taxes of all the people whose jobs are moving out of the state.

But there are even wider losses to consider. Whenever a major employer leaves an area, people who have to move leave behind homes they can’t sell. Property values drop. Businesses close, because the people who needed them are no longer there. And all of those businesses and people will also no longer be paying taxes.

GREENLAND: Trump recently had a White House meeting with Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers during which he stressed that Russia and China will swoop in to control new shipping lanes and mining opportunities in the Arctic if the U.S. does not step into a more direct role.

In response, the EU announced it would be deploying troops to defend Greenland. Troops (which means individuals) sent by the various countries include France (15), Germany (13), Sweden (3), Norway (2), The Netherlands (1), UK (1). By my count, that’s 35. The U.S. already has 200 troops stationed there.

Over his 8 years, they deported 3 million to 3.1 million illegal aliens. Yet Grok confirms what I recall, which is that the deportation protests held during Obama’s time were relatively small, scheduled marches and sit-ins, not the on-going and organized efforts to harass and physically impede ICE agents that we’re seeing now.

MILK: On January 14, President Trump signed the bipartisan “Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act”, reversing Obama-era restrictions and allowing schools to once again offer whole and 2% milk to students.

SOMALIA: The Trump administration has decided to end temporary protection for Somali nationals in the United States. This “temporary” status has existed since 1991.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says, “Country conditions in Somalia have improved to the point that it no longer meets the law’s requirement for Temporary Protected Status. Further, allowing Somali nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is contrary to our national interests. We are putting Americans first.”

There are 2,471 Somali nationals in the United States under the status, also known as TPS. Another 1,383 are in the country with pending TPS applications. They’re all supposed to go home before St. Patrick’s Day.
