Lloyd’s Little Light

I am very excited to be getting this foundation off the ground. I decided to start this foundation because of all 3 of my births. (Those birth stories coming later ) If i would have known about a doula and how amazing the role a doula can provide.

The definition of a doula according to DONA is as follows ; The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

This is just a general definition , a doula can ,and often times means so much more to the acquiring mother. A doula can help empower and educate the mother to take charge of her birth. this is especially important with our nations rising cesarean rates. This project will help mothers acquire the services of a birth doula and in some cases a postpartum doula , no matter their financial situation. Child birth education will also be provided, as well as bereavement training for birth workers to acquire more skill on this delicate but very real topic. I plan on taking this training soon myself.

This is a big project, but I feel so driven to get these services out to a public that deserves a well-educated choice on how they choose to birth. I look forward to learning through this project and connecting with some amazing possibilities. whether women choose to birth in the hospital, birth center, home, with a OBGYN, midwife, doula, or freebirth, with epidural or all natural we deserve to have options. I want to help eliminate the problem of  “there is no way I could afford a birth attendant or childbirth education” out of the equation, and I know it will take a while to really get rolling, but with the help of the community, I feel very optimistic it will grow quickly!

Shine On!

once upon a time…

There was a mother who only knew the warm feeling of sunshine, who danced and skipped about in the ignorance of never knowing what loss felt like. She had 2 pregnancies where she did not know much and was way to young and carefree to do any real research.

This mother wound up with 2 medically unnecessary Cesarean sections and believed her body was broken. She did not plan on any more children because she started doing her homework and realized the risks of a 3rd c section where very scary. Well, this mother got pregnant for a 3rd time. After a pregnancy of good health, brewer diet and a gallon or more of water a day this mother felt empowered and amazing for a vaginal birth after 2 cesarean sections! This mother was going to be the face of VBAC, and was going to inspire and help mothers who also believed their body was a broken vessel that could only bring children into the world surgically. This mother was going to pull her baby out of the water and feel that birth high that she had read so much about. This mother was going to do what every OB/GYN told her would never happen. This momma was going to change the freaking world!

This mother’s perfectly healthy, surprise gender, 42week gestation child passed away while this mother worked harder than she ever had at anything in her whole entire life.

This mother wound up with a very scary , brutal, 3rd c section that required her abdominal incision to remain open and heal from the inside out due to her uterus being infected and needing to drain.

This mother learned she had a son, a 7lb 1oz beautiful baby boy who died in her womb.

This mother now knew what a storm felt like, and for a little while the Sunshine she once frolicked in became a unfamiliar sensation. All she knew was sorrow, and it twisted and turned inside of her bright soul. This mother had to plan a memorial service, when she should of been nursing, cuddling, and showing off her beautiful new child.

Then something beautiful happened,She was lifted up by the wonderful people in her life who brought their own light and happily shared it with her by prayer, well wishes, love, visits, and constant support.

This mother had found the warmth of the sunlight once again, and even in her dispar was returned to a humbled state of gratitude. Feeling very inspired and using her spiritual teachers teaching, she reminded her self that we are not the body, we are the soul. Her son’s birth changed her, it reminded her of her blessings and she vowed to do good in her son’s name, and refused to let him die in vain.

This mother knew she had to share her new-found perspective and light with the whole world. Helping mothers in their birth journey, helping educate them to make firm decisions and to stand up for themselves. This mother also knew she needed to help other mother’s who have felt loss and have not yet found any light in their journey .

This mother became empowered to change the freaking world, and realized how blessed she was for the short time she had with her son. She was the only one in the universe that felt the life in his body, other than the beings who stitched his body together in my womb. This mother developed a sort of psychic connection with her son’s sweet soul, and sometimes he reminds her, ever so gently of his overwhelmingly beautiful presence.

The little lad had gifted his grieving mother with the most beautiful gift he could, hope.

He inspired a passion inside of her that was fierce and powerful and a love that is everlasting, powerful and beautiful. Now more than ever, was this momma in the light, but it is a different light, it is a light that can not be ignored and will shine well after her body dies. He allowed her to fully understand love, love for all humans, but most importantly love for herself. He brought love and humbleness to his earth side siblings.

This mother’s son brought together a community of warrior mothers who will forever be changed by his existence. They loved, and cared for his grieving mother, always lending an ear to her, and a hug when needed.

This mother now felt even more passionate about VBACing than she ever felt before, and even if her body could not perform a vaginal birth, she wanted to help other women realize not only is it possible, in 95% of cases, it is safer for both mother and child. His mother was inspired and motivated, she had evolved life times in a matter of one situation.

The boy’s name was Lloyd, he is a budding lotus who will forever be remembered through his mother’s love, thoughts, words and deeds, and his light will shine on happily ever after.
