At What Age?

Too young, too old, too this, too that. Wait your turn. I didn’t listen to that either.

How many times have people slaved and labored to have an opportunity for a promotion or be named a partner only to be passed by. The excuses are too many to list here.  If there is something that needs to be done, it could be that you were born for such a time to fill the need before you.

God uses people of all kinds to accomplish his work, and some of the most important characters in the Old Testament were “too old” and dismissed. Then again some were young and not college educated. Carpenter, plumbers, lawyers, religious leaders, sports figures, unknown people, and the “nobodies” are among those called by God to carry out His plan.

Noah is first mentioned in Genesis 5:32, he is 500 years old. By the time Noah entered the ark and the flood began, Noah was 600 years old (Genesis 7:6). Noah received the command to build the ark in Genesis 6:14. It had never rained on earth before the Flood.

The time it took to build the ark would therefore depend on how much time passed between God’s instruction in Genesis 6 and the rainfall in Genesis 7. This could not have been more than 100 years when we compare these two verses:

“After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth” (Genesis 5:32).

“Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth” (Genesis 7:6). (1)

You maybe called to help someone cross the street or go to the store for a shut in. Not everyone is called to spark a world wide Generational movement to God like Charlie Kirk. Charlie said we are all the next Charlie Kirk who was murdered at 31 years old.   Not everyone is called to find and expose Billions of Dollars in fraud like 23 year old Nick Shirley, a youtuber with a cell phone camera. 

Sometimes God has to bring you through rough times to sand off some rough edges to bring out the humility. Saul of Tarsus who became Paul and authored much of the New Testament actively sought out Christians to torture and kill before he saw the light and became an Apostle. Chuck Colson, an attorney to the President, had to spend time in federal prison before founding prison Fellowship which continues to do God’s work.

Simple acts of kindness just might change the direction of someone’s day or life.

Your motivation makes a difference. You cannot buy your way into God’s favor or Heaven. God judges the thoughts and intents of our hearts. Man makes judgments about our works.

A smile and a kind word does cost you anything however it pays dividends in the lives of others.

Do you need peace, comfort, healing or wisdom our Creator is on standby for each of us with an inexhaustible supply?

Participation Trophies Insure Weakness

No one remembers also-rans. You don’t learn without study. You don’t increase your muscular or spiritual strength without exercise.

Success is not overnight. Success is the result of learning from setbacks.

When you walk in a dark room your hand would normally search for a light switch.  We take for granted that homes and offices have plenty of light, heat and air conditioning. We usually don’t consider the failures and hard word the inventor of electricity encountered before seeing his vision and success unfold before his eyes.  

This well known example comes from inventor Thomas Edison.

“Thomas Edison tried over 2000 different filaments before he was able to create a market viable light bulb. Some filaments burnt out. Others were too expensive to source. Still others were too labor intensive.

Edison and his team invested countless hours exploring these dead ends. Each filament took days or even weeks of work before it could be discounted as a possibility. Some showed early signs of success— burning bright and seeming to last — only to be proved as a non viable option over time.

Stories say that Edison would become nearly giddy with each failed attempt. He loved failure! He’s credited with saying: “Negative results are just what I want. They’re just as valuable to me as positive results. I can never find the thing that does the job best until I find the ones that don’t.”

It’s hard for many of us to imagine enjoying investing so much time and energy in exploring a possibility only to come to a dead end— yet that’s the reality of the creative process for Edison. He wasn’t succeeding unless he was failing. To put it in Edison’s words: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”’ (1)

Thomas Edison overcame dyslexia to be the successful inventor we know.

He found 10,000 ways it does not work.

A champion weight lifter didn’t start out by lifting heavy weights. He trained for years starting with lighter weights and plenty of repetition. He entered competitions where he lost and won some. Each loss motivated him to work harder and refine his routine to achieve greater rewards. 

The weight lifter and Thomas Edison learned from each attempt, they grew stronger; they inched closer toward their goal each time.

Neither one of them were satisfied with a participation trophy. Participation trophies are a disincentive to achieve anything.  Participation trophies are akin to graduating from college with no more than a first grade education. Participation trophies leave the person with no skills to deal with life, becoming a blob on a couch.

It is also important to work with others to accomplish great things which come through teamwork. Teamwork skills can be learned and refined in the schoolyard, scouting, church groups, playing sports and military service.

Participation trophies don’t help you learn by doing. You cannot become a brain surgeon by watching a you tube video.

Get off the sidelines, get in the game and you won’t be a blob on a couch. You’d be amazed at what can be accomplished thorough study and hard word and how satisfying that can be. Forget the participation trophies, you’ll have to get up and dust them off anyway.

Plenty of people will provide a helping hand if you make a sincere effort.

Lingering Injustice

Actions and word have consequences. A harsh word spoken cannot be recalled and the damage could last a lifetime whether or not forgiven.

Some actions can forever change history, such as the firing on Fort Sumter, the attack on Pearl Harbor, or the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Those are some examples of injustices with lingering affects. The total damages may not have a determinable dollar value. Not all the scars are visible, yet the damage is real.

The physical damages can be dealt differently than the mental health damages. We can watch the physical heal. We can see the prosthesis being used. We cannot see what is going on inside the head with our bare eyes.

One common affliction manifesting from lingering injustices is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

What is PTSD?

PTSD is a mental health condition that some people develop after they experience or witness a traumatic event. The traumatic event may be life-threatening or pose a significant threat to your physical, emotional or spiritual well-being. PTSD affects people of all ages.

People with PTSD have intense and intrusive thoughts and feelings related to the experience that last long after the event.  PTSD involves stress responses like:

Anxiety, depressed mood, or feelings of guilt or shame.

Having flashbacks or nightmares.

Avoiding situations, places and activities related to the traumatic event.

These symptoms cause distress and interfere with your daily functioning. (1)

Continuing and ongoing injustices would multiply the damages. Victims of sexual assault of human trafficking oftentimes fall into despair as you probably don’t see an end to the injustices.  

Another lingering injustice is:

November 29, 1993 Kathleen Willey who had been subpoenaed as a witness in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case against Bill Clinton was assaulted by Bill Clinton in the Oval Office. She announced the assault on March 15, 1998 on 60 Minutes. 

“Kathleen Willey was one of the earliest victims of what we now recognize as Democrat lawfare, a coordinated strategy to destroy political opponents through legal harassment, financial ruin, and character assassination. It’s a pattern we’ve seen repeated again and again. Weaponize the courts, silence dissent, and punish anyone who dares to speak out.

For Kathleen, the consequences were devastating. She was blacklisted from meaningful employment. Recruiters would recoil when they heard her name. Promising job offers evaporated. She was left to survive on dwindling savings and, eventually, Social Security.” (2)  She suffers for exposing the evil that was thrust upon her.  She needs our prayers and any help that we may be able to provide.

Doing the right thing is not always easy. Exposing evil is not appreciated by evil.

God calls us to “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

We do not have to navigate this side of Heaven on our own.

Power of Forgiveness

Charlie Kirk’s example lives on larger than life. He was sinner saved by Grace who shared his gifts with anyone.  He encouraged those who disagreed with him to come down front, putting down the microphone to listen.

Charlie evangelized all across the globe with his unique style of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For some Charlie was the only Bible they ever read and accepted Jesus as their Savior.

Charlie mobilized a whole generation to action, action in two important areas. The search for Bible believing churches is world wide. One test for them was if the church honored Charlie as a martyr.

To evangelize means to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with someone else. Personal evangelism should be the lifestyle of every true Christian. We’ve been given a great gift, and our Master left us with clear instructions: “Go into all the world and make disciples of every nation” (Matthew 28:19). Before we can “make disciples,” we must evangelize. There are other reasons, besides Jesus’ command, that should also motivate us to share the greatest news in the world with people who haven’t heard it: (1)

 Evangelism is an act of love. Love must be the defining characteristic of every follower of Jesus Christ (John 13:35; 1 Corinthians 13:1–7). It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, so anyone who walks in the Spirit will demonstrate love in dealing with people (Galatians 5:16, 22–23). We possess the best news in the world, and love propels us to share it with those who haven’t heard. Love wants everyone to have a chance to respond to God’s offer of salvation. Withholding news that could save someone’s life is the utmost cruelty; therefore, those who truly love God will love the people whom Jesus came to save (John 3:16–18; 1 John 4:20). (1)

 Evangelism builds our own faith. Nothing helps us learn a subject like teaching it to someone else. When we make a practice of sharing our faith with those in our lives, we strengthen our own beliefs. Regular evangelism forces us to wrestle through the hard questions, find answers for ourselves, and prepare to respond to the questions of others. We should “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15). We prepare by studying God’s Word for ourselves, listening to sound Bible teachers, and staying in close fellowship with Jesus. Those practices keep our own lives pure so that we are not hypocrites who preach one thing but do another (Galatians 6:1). (1)

Charlie knew that Christian should be involved in politics. The USA is founded and based on Judeo Christian values.  If Christians aren’t involved in politics, Christian cannot expect our government to operate with Judeo Christian values.

The term “Judeo-Christian” refers to something that has its source in the common foundations of Judaism and Christianity. The Bible includes the Jewish Scriptures of the Old Testament, so the moral foundations laid down in Judaism are upheld in Christianity. The first use of the term “Judeo-Christian ethic” was apparently by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in his 1888 book The Antichrist: Curse on Christianity. The early uses of the term “Judeo-Christian ethic” referred to the Jewish roots and identity of the early Christian church, but it wasn’t used to speak of a common set of morals until much later. (2)

In 1952, President-elect Dwight Eisenhower, speaking to the Freedoms Foundation in New York, said, “Our sense of government has no sense unless it is founded in a deeply religious faith, and I don’t care what it is. With us of course it is the Judeo-Christian concept, but it must be a religion that all men are created equal.” This began the modern use of the term in American political and social circles. From Eisenhower’s day to the present, the term has become particularly associated with political conservatives in America, though there are much broader applications. In our American military schools, it is commonly taught that the modern rules for war, like the protection of captives and non-combatants, are based on biblical themes. American jurisprudence is firmly based in Judeo-Christian ethics and celebrates that fact with a variety of artwork throughout Washington, D.C. In the House of Representatives there are 23 marble relief portraits of great lawgivers, including Moses, who is given the central point of focus. The sculptures over the main entrance to the Supreme Court building are centered on Moses with the Ten Commandments, and there are several other representations of Moses and the Ten Commandments in various places throughout the building. (2)

An integral part of the Christian message and Salvation is Forgiveness. God calls us to Forgives as we have been Forgiven.   Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32.  For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. Mark 11:25.

Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk publicly forgave her husband’s murderer and empowered others to forgive.

Not again, that difficult person

Difficult people are everywhere, and that’s just an unfortunate fact of life. Of course, we can’t just go around being difficult ourselves in response. So how do you handle someone who’s just determined to get on every nerve you have? (1)

“Some people are just labeled ‘difficult’ when they have different ideas or push back on systems that have long existed as-is,” stresses Dr. Briaane Markley. “So, while some people may be truly and persistently difficult in their interpersonal relationship styles, remember that different is not bad. To label someone ‘difficult’ because they challenge the status quo can also be harmful and dismissive.” (2)

Jesus and other leaders throughout history were different as they changed the course of history. How you handle the situation could lead to life changing history, look back in history or the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. It may seem to only change a perspective.

The Bible teaches us to respond to difficult people with grace and humility, focusing on love and understanding rather than anger. Key verses include Ephesians 4:32, which encourages kindness and forgiveness, and Romans 12:9-21, which advises sincere love and patience in dealing with others.

The interactions with difficult people can be a teaching moment for us and them. Jesus expects us to be His Ambassadors, act as he would. Our speech is to be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that we may know what to answer each person (Colossians 4:6).

Perhaps we could learn patience through the situation. As we navigate through our lives, we often find ourselves face to face with particularly challenging individuals. In these moments, practicing patience can sometimes feel like a daunting task. However, the Bible reminds us that patience is a virtue and a fruit of the Spirit that we should cultivate in our interactions. By choosing to be patient, we position ourselves to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively, allowing God’s spirit to guide us. Each time we encounter a difficult person, we have an opportunity to grow in patience, understanding that it’s a journey toward becoming more Christ-like.

As God’s Ambassadors, holy and dearly loved, we are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”  (Colossians 3:12)

Jesus did not say we could not be angry, He told us not to sin in our anger. He did cleanse the Temple of those who made it a Den of Thieves. A soft answer does turn away wrath, and a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1). It is better to deescalate the situation, promoting a calmer atmosphere permitting a peaceful resolution or an agreement to disagree without being disagreeable.

Founder of Pacific Life Coach.  When talking to a difficult person. Start with a positive comment like letting them know you value the relationship, then go into the difficult part of the conversation. In the end, finish with another positive comment like thanking them for listening to you.

You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Everyone feels relieved and in a better position after a good conversation.

Tsunami Warning, Not A Drill

An 8.8 Magnitude earthquake off of Russia reverberated through the oceans to cause tsunami warnings in many nations. Danger is on its way, sadly many will not heed the warnings, they will ignore the sirens and will not get out of harms way.  (1)   

Though they start thousands of miles away, tsunamis, the giant waves caused by undersea earthquakes or other disruptions, can cause significant destruction along coastal areas. Tsunamis have caused loss of life with severe floods, erosion, and structural damage. (2)

If you can see the waves and watch a large rather speedy withdrawal of the waves from the shoreline you should expect to receive the wrath of a tsunami in short order.

How many times have we not heard or ignored warnings given by others or our conscience. The outcomes in those cases have not always been the best. 

While on a hike in the hills you come across a swarm of ants headed to a cliff. They may not survive the steep drop. Surely if they are warned they can avoid serous injury or death. They don’t understand English and you’re not aware what language they do speak. How can you warn them of the danger ahead, shouting, and a hand written note are quickly dismissed as ineffective.  Sign language is also dismissed.

As parents we have warned our children about dangers ahead based upon what we see or have experienced.

God is in a similar situation He continues to warn us and outlines various rewards and Blessings for listening to Him. He sent His Son in a form we would recognize and understand, He gave us the best selling book of all time which explains His positions on all that matters to mankind. Not everyone reads His book.

Biblical themes of warning and example are intricately woven throughout Scripture, serving as divine tools for instruction, correction, and guidance. These themes are evident in both the Old and New Testaments, where God uses historical events, parables, and direct admonitions to communicate His will and expectations to His people (3)

10 Biblical Warnings You Need to Take Seriously

As Christians, we often turn to the Bible for wisdom and guidance. We study its teachings, memorize its verses, and strive to follow its commands. However, there are some warnings in the Bible that we may tend to ignore. But these warnings can have serious consequences if not heeded.

Don’t Be Deceived

The Bible reminds us to be vigilant of false teachers who will try to deceive us with their false teachings. Jesus warned His disciples, saying, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves” (Matthew 7:15). Paul also warned the church in Galatia, saying, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!” (Galatians 1:8). We need to be discerning and test everything we hear against the truth of God’s Word.

Don’t be Greedy

The Bible warns us against the love of money and the pursuit of wealth. Jesus said to His disciples, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” (Luke 12:15). Paul also warned Timothy, saying, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” (1 Timothy 6:10). We need to be content with what we have and trust in God to provide for our needs.

Avoid Sexual Sin

The Bible reminds us to stay away from sexual immorality and impurity. Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18). The author of Hebrews also says, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” (Hebrews 13:4). We need to honor God with our bodies and avoid sexual sin.

Control Your Anger

The Bible warns us against anger and the danger of holding grudges. Jesus told His disciples, “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment” (Matthew 5:22). Paul also told the church in Ephesus, saying, “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold” (Ephesians 4:26-27). We need to forgive others as God has forgiven us and not let anger control our lives.

Beware of Pride

The Bible warns us against pride and the danger of thinking too highly of ourselves. James warned, “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble’” (James 4:6). Peter also warned, “All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble’” (1 Peter 5:5). We need to humble ourselves before God and others and seek to serve others instead of seeking our own glory.

Forgive others

The Bible warns us against unforgiveness and the danger of holding onto grudges. Jesus warned His disciples, saying, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins” (Matthew 6:14-15). Paul also warned the church in Colossae, saying, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13). We need to forgive others just as God has forgiven us.

Worship God Alone

The Bible warns us against idolatry and the danger of putting anything before God. The first of the Ten Commandments is, “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). Paul also warned the church in Corinth, saying, “Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry” (1 Corinthians 10:14). We need to worship God alone and not put anything else in His place.

Don’t Be Lazy

The Bible warns us against laziness and the danger of wasting our time and talents. Solomon wrote, “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest” (Proverbs 6:6-8). Paul also warned the church in Thessalonica, saying, “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat’” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). We need to use our time and talents wisely and work hard for the Lord.

Believe in Jesus Christ

The Bible warns us against unbelief and the danger of rejecting God’s truth. Jesus warned, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:18). Paul also warned the church in Hebrews, saying, “See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12). We need to believe in Jesus Christ and trust in Him alone for our salvation.

Be Genuine in Your Faith

The Bible warns us against hypocrisy and the danger of pretending to be something we are not. Jesus warned His disciples, saying, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:1). Paul also warned the church in Rome, saying, “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things” (Romans 2:1). We need to be genuine in our faith and live out what we believe. (4)

We can avoid tsunamis in our life by heeding warnings in the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, the best selling book of all times. God is still speaking.

Celebration Time

There is plenty to celebrate this July 4th

Common sense has returned.

The biological definition of a woman is back and is part of the Congressional Record.  (1)

Gas and food prices are down.

Largest taxes cuts in history put in place.

Accountability is returning.

Sovereignty is reasserted.

Borders are sealed.

Wars have ended.

Freedoms are returning: Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion are key among them.

Freedom to safely travel is returning.

Those who broke in are being returned home.

Women sports are for women only again.  (2)

Charles Stanley says: Freedom is a word with multiple meanings. Some think of it as rights guaranteed by law to all citizens, others might envision release from a debt, responsibility, or illness. But no matter what definition we choose, there’s something inherent in us that yearns for liberty.

When the prophet Isaiah, and later Jesus (see Luke 4:18-19), spoke of “the favorable year of the Lord,” it was a reference to the Year of Jubilee described in Leviticus 25:8-55. During this period, all debts were to be erased, all slaves released, and land returned to its original owners. The Year of Jubilee can be seen as a metaphor for God’s salvation. The greatest freedom we can experience is the forgiveness of our sins, liberation from the strongholds that have held us captive, and the restoration of our relationship with our Maker and His creation.

The Word of God holds many promises of freedom for those who put their trust in Jesus. For example, we have freedom:

• In Christ (John 8:36; Romans 8:2; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:1).

• From sin (Acts 10:43; Romans 6:6-7; 1 Corinthians 10:13).

• From fear (Romans 8:15; Philippians 4:6-7; 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

But with freedom comes responsibility. Getting a driver’s license is exciting because it means the freedom to drive, but you still have to follow rules. Living in a land that has declared independence from other countries means you’re free, but even the freest nation has laws its citizens must obey. For that matter, a person who defies all authority and attempts to live as he or she pleases is still subject to the laws of gravity, nature, biology, time, and the seasons. Similarly, freedom in Christ does not absolve us of responsibility and accountability.

Coming is a process which has begun.  There are those who resist the comeback. Some of them are paid protestors who can’t explain what or why they are protesting and there for their love of money.

At the same time revivals are breaking out as people head back to God. As reliance upon God increases the devil’s bark will increase as his bite looses it power. This is classic battle where good defeats evil again. Our help comes from above.

Parent Care

When our children were young we took care of their every need. As they grew they learned to care for their own needs. They grew up and had their own children. One day you look in the mirror and wonder how your grandfather got in the mirror and you’re a great grandfather.

Many Grandparents were those you visited, called on the phone, lived near by or even lived in another part of your home.

Grandparents usually have a profound lasting influence on grandchildren. One of my grandfather’s passed away when I was six.  He imparted great gems of wisdom in those few short years. Two of those gems were: before doing business with someone look them straight in the eye and shake their hand, then you’ll know whether you should or not; another is when we encountered someone asking for spare change to buy a meal, he offered to buy a meal at a nearby restaurant (years before fast food restaurants were popular), his offer was declined. My grandfather turned to me and told me he didn’t want the money to buy food, rather alcohol, to drink.   

We celebrate National Grandparents Day on the first Sunday after Labor Day. This year, the date falls on September 7. Like Mother’s day and Father’s day we also have a whole day dedicated to our grandparents. Grandparents and children have a special connection that is proven to both make grandparents live longer, and also make children more emotionally resilient. Grandparents Day is an opportunity to treasure that connection and spend some quality family time together. (1)

Marian McQuade was recognized nationally by the U.S. Senate and by President Jimmy Carter as the founder of National Grandparents Day. McQuade wanted to educate the youth about the importance of seniors and the contributions they have made throughout history. She urged the youth to “adopt” a grandparent and learn more about their lives, challenges, and desires for the future. (1)

In 1977, Senator Randolph, with the help of other senators, introduced a joint resolution to the senate requesting the president to “issue annually a proclamation designating the first Sunday of September after Labor Day of each year as ‘National Grandparents’ Day’.” Congress passed the legislation, proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparent’s Day. On August 3, 1978, Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation, and the day was finally celebrated the following year. (1)

Grandparents usually are a tremendous source of wisdom, practical experience, and history. Grandparents can be best friends to grandchildren.

There are times when grandparents raise grandchildren.  The challenges of grandparents raising grandchildren

As grandparents, we usually have the benefit of interacting with our grandkids on a level that is once removed from the day-to-day responsibilities of parents. For many of us, grandparenting means a weekend together every now and then, an afternoon play date, an evening babysitting, a summer vacation, or chats on the phone and email exchanges here and there. But when life circumstances change—through divorce, the death of parents, or changes to a parent’s work or school-related responsibilities, for example—it often falls to grandparents to assume full- or part-time responsibility for their grandchildren.

Also known as “kinship care,” a growing number of grandparents are now taking on the parenting role for their grandchildren, thus foregoing the traditional grandparent/grandchild relationship. This often means giving up your leisure time, the option of traveling, and many other aspects of your independence. Instead, you once again take on responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance of a home, schedules, meals, homework, and play dates. And if it was tragic circumstances that required you to step into the role of a parent, you’ll face many other stress factors, such as coping with your own and your grandchildren’s grief.

Raising your grandchildren, while challenging, can also be incredibly rewarding. (2)

It is tough raising parents. Some of today’s families find that their parents have a change in their ability to care for their own normal daily needs. These are the people who changed your diapers, fed, clothed, housed, encouraged, and nurtured you when you were young. Parents sure could use your loving direction and assistance as you are led and are able.  There are adult day care centers and various other resources available to assist you in assisting your parents.

There is nothing like a family. God instituted families with Adam and Eve. The devil has been trying to destroy families since the beginning. I read the end of the book, God Wins!

Why would you do that? Is it a good or bad thing to change the narrative?

People don’t always like the news or information being presented. Sometimes organizations try to influence the public’s opinion about people, events, or products through advertising.

“Advertising influences consumers’ purchasing decisions: Advertising plays a significant role in shaping consumers’ buying behavior. Ads are designed to create a sense of urgency, need, or desire in the minds of consumers, which can persuade them to buy a product or service.

Advertising affects consumers’ perception of a brand: Advertising can impact how consumers perceive a brand. A well-crafted ad campaign can create a positive brand image in the minds of customers, while a poorly executed campaign can tarnish a brand’s image.

Advertising creates brand loyalty: Consistent advertising efforts can create brand loyalty among consumers. When a consumer repeatedly sees an ad for a particular brand, they develop trust in the brand and are more likely to remain loyal to it.

Advertising shapes consumers’ preferences and attitudes: Advertising can shape consumers’ attitudes towards a particular product, service or brand. It can influence how they perceive a brand’s value, quality, and benefits, influencing their preferences.” (1)

Propaganda is the organized dissemination of information, ideas, or opinions, often biased or misleading, aimed at influencing public opinion or promoting a particular agenda. It can be found in various forms, including media, advertisements, and political campaigns. (2) Propaganda is form of advertising, instead of a physical product it is for the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person. (3)

Changing the narrative could use extreme measures such a censorship of opposing views. In the USA we have the First Amendment which includes a Freedom of Speech and a Freedom to petition our government for redress of grievances. Not every country permits Free Speech which runs counter to position of those in authority. 

Some in the USA would like to eradicate the First Amendment. There is “a report at Complete Colorado explains how majority Democrats in the state are trying to banish citizen comment from the state’s “democracy.” Democrats hold the majority in both the House and Senate in Colorado, as well as the governor’s office.” (4)

Changing the narrative is not new; the first recorded instance goes back to the Garden of Eden. The devil lied to Eve:

“2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” “Genesis 3: 3-5

The devil succeeded in changing the narrative which caused sin to enter the world. Sin has to be paid for; Jesus paid the price on the Cross for us in order that we would not have to make that payment.

After Cain killed his brother Abel out of jealousy Cain was not successful in changing the narrative with God, Genesis 4. Cain denied killing Abel, Cain was held accountable for his lying to God and for killing his brother Abel.

Leaps and Bounds

Some change is slow: some sprint right past us.

The phrase “by leaps and bounds” illustrates rapid and substantial growth or improvement. It paints a vivid picture of swift, extensive progression, akin to a person or entity leaping forward to cover considerable ground or advance notably. (1)

Deer running and leaping through a field as they cover a large amount of ground in a short period of time is a good word picture.

The rumble in Europe after World War Two quickly became nice resorts, housing, manufacturing, tourist areas, and prosperity in a short period of time.  There wasn’t any property or income to tax.

The Marshall Plan was a U.S. initiative enacted in 1948 to provide economic aid to Western Europe after World War II, aimed at rebuilding war-torn economies and preventing the spread of communism. It allocated $13.3 billion (equivalent to about $173.8 billion today) to help restore infrastructure and promote political stability in the region. This was accomplished by leveraging available cash and trading it at higher levels. A small amount of cash created a large amount of cash to restore and rebuilt Europe. The plan made some people uncomfortable until they saw results.

Today’s banks leverage your ten dollar deposit and lend one hundred dollars based upon your ten dollar deposit. Communities are built and maintained based upon many ten dollar deposits. This plan made some people uncomfortable until they saw results. Today’s banks exist by this plan.

The Gospel of Matthew in the Bible tells us of a beautiful story of how Jesus miraculously fed 5,000 men with five loaves of bread and two fish.

Five thousand men decided to seek Jesus first, getting out of their comfort zone to hear the word that will bring salvation and healing to their life. They received the word, and then other things were added unto them as well. When we seek after Him, everything about our lives will fall into place.

He will take care of all our needs both spiritually and physically. Jesus will not let you down, for with Him all things are possible. Make a decision today to seek and follow Jesus, your life will never remain the same. (2)

Where Does “By Leaps and Bounds” Come From?

Its history traces back to Shakespearean times, indicating that it has been in use for several centuries. The phrase is considered redundant because both “leaps” and “bounds” essentially mean “spring” or “jump.” However, this redundancy serves to emphasize the speed and extent of the progress being described. The phrase has been widely adopted to describe anything from personal growth to business expansion, emphasizing that the subject has moved ahead quickly, often bypassing normal steps of progression.
