Feedback request: recommended blogs

We’ve been tinkering with a couple of new things that we’d love to hear your feedback on.

We’re in the process of building out a way for you to recommend the blogs that you love the most. We’ll start to surface these recommendations in various places across the app. This feature is still very much in the early stages, but in a few weeks you’ll be able to start adding recommended blogs under Reader -> Lists -> Recommended Blogs:

Hover Cards

Over the next couple of weeks we’re going to start introducing hover cards that show up when you mouse over any avatar in the reader. The goal with these hover cards is to give a quick snapshot of each author without having to click anything. Conveniently, we’ll be surfacing your recommended blogs in these hover cards:

Feedback

Our goal with these changes is to make the reader feel more like a community and to make it easier for you to get more traffic to your posts and find more subscribers.

If you have feedback, we’d love to hear it in the comments below.

Did you know you can subscribe to Reddit topics in the Reader?

Along with subscribing to WordPress.com sites in the Reader, you can subscribe to any standard RSS feed, including those on Reddit.com.

To make this feature easier to find, we’ve added new “Add site” and “Reddit” tabs on the Discover page. Check out the updated Discover tabs at https://wordpress.com/discover.

After exploring the new interface, we’d love your feedback:

  • Did you know that you can subscribe to RSS feeds in the Reader?
  • How familiar are you with RSS feeds, and when was the last time you subscribed to one?
  • Do you think subscribing to RSS feeds outside of WordPress.com increases the value of the Reader? Why or why not?

As always, thanks so much for exploring our new features and for your feedback!

New Reader Profile Page

We’ve just launched a new public profile page in the Reader, and we’d love your feedback!

You can find the link for your profile by visiting https://wordpress.com/me and looking under the new Public Profile section:

Your Reader profile reflects the “Public display name” and “About me” sections of your /me profile, and it currently shows your public posts and lists. We’ve linked to it anywhere your avatar or author byline appears.

Here’s what we’d love your input on:

  • What are your initial impressions?
  • What do you like or dislike?
  • Does this trigger ideas on anything you’d like to see us add, either to the profile page or elsewhere in the Reader?

This is part of a larger effort to improve the community aspects of the Reader. If there’s a feature you feel is missing or an idea you’d love us to explore, please don’t hesitate to share!

Thank you so much, looking forward to hearing your insights 🙏

You spoke up and we listened!

A couple of you mentioned that the Popular Sites sidebar was not returning super relevant results and that it felt like it was just in the way. So we removed it. 🤗

We’d like to make some improvements to our recommendation algorithm, but until then we’ve removed the Popular Sites sidebar from both the Recent and Discover feeds and we’ve widened the content across all feed to better fit your screen.

We really appreciate your efforts in helping us make reader a better experience for everyone! Please keep the suggestions coming.
