Another one – Star Wars`ish

One of my entries to the May 4th competition held by Lightwave Digital. The theme was simply to do something from Starwars, or that could be from Starwars.

Lots of fun to do. Not based on any particular alien. The cockpit decoration was based of some parts of the Millennium Falcon.

All built and rendered in Lightwave 3D 2023, with the native renderer

And if you look closely there is a lightsaber and a couple of clones of Han Solos blaster in the background

I used FiberFX for his stubble and the skullcap

Lots of simple shapes for the various instruments

I built the cockpit windows just so it would be in the reflection of his eyes

Most of the pipes and wires were done using PX_Bezier64 a great Lightwave plugin from many years ago.It can still be accessed through the Wayback Machine.

Based on an old heating fan I found in the back of a shed, I liked the overall shape of it.

A Visit to Cloud City

Another Lightwave Competition Entry. The subject was pretty broad – StarWars. I went with a more industrial looking Bespin for this entry.

I Lathed a simple profile to get the main hull, beveled in a few details and radially arrayed some other shapes for windows and antennas and such.

I took some liberties with the cloud cars as well. I didn’t actually look at the originals I just went with my own vague memory of how they looked in the film.

I added some tail lights which I am fairly sure don’t exist on the originals and some extra guns because why not.

Basically just some primitive balls stretched out a bit. then I multishifted some panels for detail.

I was delighted to have this entry picked for an honorable mention in the competition Click through to see the winners.

Down On The 3D Farm Pt2 Hay Bales

More of the farm project. Its a simple mesh with Fiber Effects used to generate the stray hay strands on the surface. FFx can produce some lovely results but it is very crash prone especially when editing the guide hairs. I very nearly gave up before getting this result.

Again this model and scene will be given away after the short come out.

More to come…

Happy Halloween From The Thing Under Your Bed

Lightwave 3D has been bought out by a new company Lightwave Digital and to celebrate the impending launch of a long awaited update they held a competition for Halloween and these were my entries.

I had a lot of fun relearning some of my rusty skills to do these two. The render, surfacing and volumetrics have changed considerably from what I was used to years ago so I struggled with the new tools. But hopefully with some more practice I get some better results.

I should probably address my long absence but no one needs to read that. Hi to any of my old readers who are still out there I hope you are all doing well.
