Areale Hammond (of R2) Dressed up for the 80s! Shazam!!

Hello, Hello!!!  Time for this week’s Rivendell Gazette.  Sorry about posting late, but that’s how life rolls.  So, here’s some of the events of last week.

First off, R2 and R3 finished out their latest module last week.  R2 had Astrophysicist Jeff Zweerink come in to talk about Physics and Science, while R3 had Professor Richard Howe, who covered the topic of how the bible is historically and truly accurate, as well as how philosophy helps theology.  Great topics all around. On thursday, Professor Zweerink talked on the topic of “Science: Friend or Foe?”, which was highly received, and very popular with everyone.  Professor Howe was a hoot, and one of the best speakers R3 has had so far (but they’ve only had two speakers, so it isn’t saying much.

Also, Saturday was the monthly birthday, with the theme of the 80s.  Everyone dressed up as Glam-Rockers, and 80s-big-hear-wearers.  Excellent time overall.

Students were very open all week, and enjoyed both finishing out classes and prepping for the next module.  In honor of this, R3 went to Fuddruckers to celebrate this monumental moment, in hopes of starting a new tradition.

But that’ll do it for last week.  Thanks again, and Godspeed!!

Alright, time for the Rivendell Gazette.  So, what happened this week?

A sudden change in weather has encouraged dozens of the studentst to move outside for study and reading.  Impromptu games of Ultimate Frisbee and Football has started to occur, as well as other popular youth games like Ninja and “FWHA!”. Students are enjoying their time, and everyone is happy that this weather has come.

Academically, this was the last “study week” for R2 and R3, as they move towards the final week, with tests and guest speakers coming in next week.   Most of these classes have been focusing on their essays for the weekend, which kept things quiet.

However, Davis Norment chose to host a very fun event at the Barn for St. Patrick’s Day. He first had hot dogs, chips, and cookie cake for dinner, then invited the family of Gilbert Kyle (led by Paul Kyle, a popular Irish singer) to play Irish music and tell the story of Saint Patrick.  The event was well-received, and very popular with the students.  It has also inspired in me (Chris Hutton) a strong desire to listen to more Irish music, especially artists like Gaelic Storm, The Dubliners, and much more

R1 had their first off-site community service since they returned, and were able to do a great service.  They raked the leaves of a local park, and were a grand help for sure.

But this week has been quiet overall, with normal life resuming.  But the weather has opened many a door for students and teachers alike to do some great activities together.
