Praise or Blame IT?

In every aspect, whether in business, relationship, or life, every step we take and every decision we make, should have a positive outcome. However, not all we expect happens, sometimes, the opposite or maybe worse. Worrying what may go wrong does not help at all, but focusing on what should happen does.

It is not wrong to consider risks, but they should not be the focus. The organization should be open for the possibility of failure, but not dwell on it. If they expect failure, why continue the project? Where organization and its people get inspiration to work harder to achieve success is the view of the future victory. They strive for success, and work for success. Therefore, from the start of the organization or project, building realistic and achievable goals is important. It is the building block and a firm foundation of organizations’ structure.

Information Technology has made its name in business; it is the competitive advantage of every organization. It became a trend and necessity.  The information system of organizations depends on their strategic goals. Therefore, no specific information system will fit in the same organization, one may succeed and other may fail.

Trial-and-error process can be used to test the efficiency and effectiveness of information system, but this process is costly and time-consuming. Software developers design and customize systems to fit organizations’ needs and strategic goals.

Information technology contributes to the success or failure of the organization and its goals, but is not the mere factor. The outcome of any project the organization has does not only count on information technology, it can be project management or strategic planning and any other factor. It is not the only basis of the rise in fall, but it is taken into account. Proper planning and management pulls up the organization with the aid of information technology.

Cursed or Praised?

Intelligence is more likely an acquired and applied knowledge and an improved decision-making through the advanced prediction of the future.

LifeBank Foundation, Inc. (LBF) is a non-stock, non-profit organization. Microfinance accounts for over 95% of LBF’s operations. LBF has about 150 staff at the Central Office and nearly 3000 staff in field offices throughout the Philippines. LBF’s microfinance program has an outreach of over 220,000 members. The organization is experiencing rapid growth in its microfinance program and, as a result, its staff complement is also increasing.

LBF should upgrade its system to innovative software rather than encoding some information like the bi-monthly salary of each employee from his/her first month of work on spreadsheets. These data are not interpreted on graphs or charts, therefore spreadsheets are used not to interpret data but to secure employees information.

LBF should have monthly reports for progress and failures to monitor the company’s status. The importance of maintaining and sustaining productivity is to build up a better foundation of the company’s future, its reputation and stability.

In any circumstance the company is facing, there is no brain-storming and analysis of why and how that happened. In any business, problems and worst scenarios are to be anticipated. Decision-makers or the management should dig deeper and gain insight from the past and present company setting.

What and how an organization goes rely directly on every decision the management does. Therefore, the management is responsible for the downfall or success of the entire team, it is either they are cursed or praised.

Should an Organization Outsource Security

“Distrust and caution are the parents of security.” Benjamin Franklin is a wise man and I agree with him, we have to be cautious and we should know whom to trust.

Outsourcing security is a big no, we should limit the number of people who knows our data, we can never tell what’s the real purpose of organizations who offer this kind of business. There proposal might sound convincing but we should consider the risks of trusting them. I believe that the lesser we share our information, the lesser the risk we take.
Basically, outsourcing organizations offers a low cost. Lost cost attracts more customers, that’s a fact but this cost can actually put our organization at stake. Yes, we’re putting our own company at stake in a sense that we’re increasing the number of people who knows our confidential records. Confidential means it’s a secret and secret means not to disclose, why should we disclose these data to someone who also offers the same kind of business to other organizations or offers the same service with our competitor? If our competitors know where we outsource, there’s a chance that they will offer something that the outsourcing organization can’t refuse. Why should we involve ourselves with this kind of risk if we can make ways to make our own organization secure?

Inevitable Tomorrow

People misunderstand risk management as a waste of time, but come to think of it, if the problem that should have been predicted and prepared for has occurred, wouldn’t it take more time to reconstruct? Risk is definitely not a problem, a problem has already occurred; a risk is the recognition that a problem might occur.

For every success in each project and organization, team work plays an important role. It strengthens the team as a whole, and improves the probability of the project success. People tend to be careless without even noticing it. They just look and feed ONLY on the possible good outcomes that would meet their hunger of overly optimistic expectations and profit at the end without anticipating the probable and possible problem that may arise along the way.  If this happens, it would probably create a big impact on the side of the members and the project. There goes disappointments and blaming of self and others that would ruin the project at the end.

If a certain team member is unwilling to participate in risk management, then personal accountability should be practiced. Ask him, “what can you do to become better? Isn’t it preparing and planning ahead of time? What can you do to be more efficient? Isn’t it becoming accountable for every scenario in an your organization and getting ready for what may happen? A sincere one-on-one talk might change his/her mind. The importance of a project depends on the sincerity of every member, if he is willing to listen and learn, then he is  sincere.

Each risk should be identified, and each should have a coresponding motivational or contingency plan. Again, risk is not a problem, but the likelihood of it to happen is vast.

Are you ready for the inevitable tomorrow? Think about it today.

Beyond LIFE

The vision of reality is the combination of all substance of experience. The truth lies behind the action learned and how a life is journeyed.

Knowledge is not gained on books, but the application of what is written therewith, it is not read, but taken into action, not a test of memory retention but a life-long learning.

People come from different ages, young and old, men, women or those who are in between, ignored and famous, poor and rich, all these have different knowledge gained. They have different histories and lifestyles, born on different times, raised in different kinds of family and community, hence like thumb marks, knowledge of each and every one is unique and varies from experiences.

The beauty of the brains is captured by pain, joy, insecurities, and fulfillment. Maturity is not growing old, but growing up. And it is achieved by an improved self-esteem and personal accountability. We are molded by every circumstance destiny has prepared for us, the more challenges, the more we try to get up and be on top, the more we get hurt, the more we explore the world, the more experiences we get, then the more knowledgeable we become.

Life is a process, and in every stage, as time and energy travel together, knowledge becomes a profit.
