When the World Slows Down — A Remembrance Day Reflection

This is my last week of work, and beyond that lies the unknown. The market is down; housing development has stalled. I’m fortunate to have some savings to carry me through this low period. Clients and I both believe the downturn will last well into the new year. The question is: can I sustain myself financially until March 2026?

It feels like the world is on the verge of great change — perhaps the biggest shift of our generation. On this Remembrance Day, I’m reminded that past generations faced far harsher trials: war, economic collapse, and social famine. In perspective, my own challenge seems small.

Yet, in a strange and unexpected way, I’m looking forward to this break. It’s a chance to explore my artistic side — to paint, to see the world, and to record life’s moments through another lens. I know I can’t delay the end of this project; deadlines are deadlines. I must be ready when opportunity returns.

For now, I want to make the most of this pause — to play, to spend time with friends, and to listen to the stories of those who’ve lived longer and seen more. That’s the quiet gift of a slowdown: you stop saving for life and start living it.

One day, I hope to look back on this time and recognize it as one of life’s most joyful seasons
