Peles Castle Itinerary Outdoors
Let’s start our journey!
1. You are sitting on the Cafe Bar terrace, facing the Castle. Tables, umbrellas, and lots of tourists surround you.
The entrance in the coffee shop is guarded by 2 soldier statues.

2. Also on the coffee shop terrace, on the right hand side, facing the castle, there are artefacts representing 2 massive guns.

3.Walking on the alley towards the Peles Castle, passing by the artisanal fountain, you descend the stairs, and encounter the statue of the King Carol I, who built the castle and was one of Romania’s greats. He ruled the country between 1866-1914.
Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873 and completed in 1883, the castle served as the summer residence of the royal family until 1947. Its 160 rooms are adorned with the finest examples of European art, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows and Cordoba leather-covered walls.
(Did you know? Peles Castle was the first European castle entirely lit by electrical current. The electricity was produced by the castle’s own plant.
Also, the first movie projection in Romania took place in 1906 in the castle’s Theater Room.)
4. You are moving forward on the alley. At the end of it, there is the poetess Queen, in a majestically sewing posture.
Her literary pseudonim is Carmen Silva. (Queen Elisabeth of Romania, wife of Carol I)
5. Going further few steps, you reach the Peles Castle Garden, access restricted to the visitors.
At the base of the stairs towards the Gardens, on each of both sides, there are two statues, metaphorically representing the young royal symbols.
The statues depict lion cubs.
(Did you know that Peles Castle had 7 terraces nicely decorated with stone statues, fountains, and vessels made out of Carrara marble?).
6. Going now on the stairs heading back to the Castle main terrace, you enter the inner yard.
Notice the mural paintings on the right wall of the inner yard.
The theme is a hunting scene with two people from the court having wine and playing a musical instrument.

7. Now you exit the Peles Castle premises and head on towards Pelisor Castle.
This newer castle was erected to serve as the summer residence for young eyers of the Romanian crown, Ferdinand and Maria. It is an Art Nouveau style indoor , reflecting Qween Maria taste, built under her direct supervision.
Pelisor’s 70 rooms feature a unique collection of turn-of-the century Viennese furniture and Tiffany and Lalique glassware.
In front of the Pelisor, in the middle of the fountain, there are four angels sculptured.
