Yeah, it’s been nearly 16 months since I wrote last. Guess I’ll do my usual recap, and try once more to get into the habit of posting more regularly. Don’t laugh too hard.
Oh where to begin? Hmm… June last year. Dan quit Ashcatek, because well… the job didn’t get better, and the owner… well… yeah. So, he gave his notice at the same time he started up yet another version of his IT company. This time it’s Wahatoya Information Technology Services. WITS. Yeah, another play on words, like LoboSavvy, Clever Wolf. We made an agreement with the AshcaTek owner, and went on holiday to Battlemoor. Came back mid July to find out that the guy had been… an ass. Property division didn’t go down as agreed. About the only thing was that we got the room at Washington School. Oh, and the one client, City of Walsenburg.
Meanwhile, we had a houseguest for a while who was a pain in the arse. Not surprised really. Acted badly when reminded that Stefan and Bryan were due home in September. Stormed out, blamed us for their bad behavior, etc. sigh… Sorry, can’t help that you’re homeless because you spent all your $$$ on drugs and alcohol. Ah well. We got the room clean in time for the guys to get home. Just before the houseguest left, our cat Elfed disappeared. Never figured out how he got out. I was also having more issues with my leg. Being gimpy was not improving. So, having the guys home really helped.
Mid September, a friend, Stacy D. and I really started talking about opening a craft supply shop. We’d been talking about ‘what does Walsenburg need’ for weeks. A business incubator program was opening up, and we applied. We did get into the program, and rollout was a bit slow. Lots of things to consider.
October flew past. We lost the city IT contract. What a mess. All I can really say is that we hope they enjoy the guy who got the contract. We know his work, or lack thereof. I turned 64 in November, and my leg was not getting better. (???WTF???) Doctor told me to exercise. I was. sigh… The business, Walsenburg Craft Emporium, was born, and debuted on the Friday after Thanksgiving as a popup in the Wheelhouse Business Incubator. Crazy, fun, and hectic. Also that week of Thanksgiving, we had a major family upset. Bryan’s ex and he were having rather terse discussions on custody. She wanted to move out of state and take both kids. He said no. So, they were due to go to court. Monday before Thanksgiving, she threw her son, Talon, out. He was 14. We figured that she decided if she gave Bryan his son, she could leave with the daughter. Nope, Court said NO. Of course, that opened a big can of worms. We survived it, and with the help of friends, Talon had enough clothes, etc to cope. We shuffled rooms, as Stefan was still here part time. We’d built a room downstairs, when Madison came to visit, so that really helped.
2024 rolled in. I was working part time for WITS, and part time for WCE. Learning retail has been interesting. We’ve held sales, classes, workshops, etc. The winter was a mix of cold, bitter cold, and some crazy weather. Money had been tight all winter, and while Dan was hustling the best he could, it was difficult. We’d had an employee, but let him go. We also moved to a different room, which we painted white and green. I really like that office better.
We also found out what happened to Elfed. He found his way to a house about 8 blocks away. The woman who found him is a friend, and when she realized that it was our cat, she offered to give him back. We said no. He chose you, and you and your son adore him. So, Elfed is safe, my friend has a cat, and all worked out.
I started attending the Dragon book club at our local library. It’s been great, and we’ve read a lot of books that I never would have picked up. I’ve enjoyed most of them. One of the ladies and I were talking about my issues with walking, as she had had problems too. So, I started the process of getting to see the orthopedic dept. I got an appointment for July 10th. sigh…
We did go to Battlemoor. Damned if I was going to miss it. I hobbled everywhere, had lots of lovely people help me out, and enjoyed myself. Ahhh… Two days after we got home, I went to the doctors. Urkkk. I was xrayed, poked and prodded. Osteoarthritis in both hips, and my right knee is pretty well shot. 😦 Hip(s) replacements in my future. Not happy, but at least I have a clue. It also meant that I became pretty housebound, as I just couldn’t cope with the steps.
End of July saw the arrival of Nat! We hadn’t seen each other in ages. Great visit! Way too short, but oh I love my daughter of my heart. She hopes to come back in January with the family. 🙂 Bryan quit working up at the lake with Stefan, and now is home and works at a local auto parts store. It’s helped a lot having him around.
As usual, life has been crazy. I’m not sure I’d know what to do with a ‘normal’ life. A friend lost her husband, and had slowly de-handicapping her life. He was a double amputee. She’d heard I was homebound, and brought me over a ramp!!! The guys have it completed enough that I can get out of the house!!! Still needs the rails, but… it works. Later on, she also brought a wheelchair. Yes, I can walk with the aid of two canes, but… it is Slooooow. So when I’m at the house, I use the canes. When we go out and about, I use the chair as needed. It really helps. I’m working on my Medicare stuff too, as I turn 65 in two months. Then I can get the hip replacement surgery. 🙂 The guys say I’ll be the Bionic Nana!
Oh, and I guess the Universe wasn’t done with us having visitors. A week ago, my granddaughter Anabell was unable to take care of her dog Shasta. So, Shasta is living with us until we can find her a good home, or until Dan falls so in love with her that she doesn’t leave. And… a friend of Anabell’s and Talon’s, is going to stay with us for a little bit until she gets an apartment. Life is never boring around here!
