Attack of the Bookworm

Aye and I decided to have lunch today at KFC Greenbelt 1. But first, we stopped by Timex to get his watch a new bracelet and while he’s scanning the display, I have my eyes set on National Bookstore which is just across the Timex stall.

I wasn’t even thinking of buying another pocketbook, since I’m not yet finished with my latest purchase – Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella.

But then, as if intending to catch my attention, there it was in the middle of the main aisle near the entrance….BOOK SALE! All books for only Php 49.50 each!

Take note, all books are hard bound! How luckier can you get?

So here are the newest addition to my library:

1. Justice Denied by New York best selling author J.A. Jance

This is the first time I would be reading a JP Beaumont series. And I have high expectations!

 

2. High Profile by New York best selling author Robert B. Parker

Mr. Parker specializes in crime writing and most (if not all) of his works incorporates considerable knowledge about the Boston metropolitan area. This is my second Robert Parker book, the first being Trouble in Paradise. I enjoyed reading it (forensic investigation and all that jazz) so I guess this explains my excitement for this new book. =)

 

For the past year, I rarely read books due to all the hoolahbaloo at work and travel. So instead of burying my face in between pages, I got (and still am) addicted to downloading and watching movies/TV series every night until I fall asleep. And of course, with my best lounge buddy Aye with me, it is the perfect time for bonding. =)

Which brings me to thinking, if only I can get Aye to also be into reading as much as I do, then we can have those tell-me-about-your-last-book conversations over hot cups of coffee. That would really really be nice. But then again, he has to finish his “first” paperback novel first, which he started reading about 11 months ago. Way to go Sweetie! Hehe.

Even though my Sweetie isn’t so much into books, I love the fact that he lets me roam around bookstores (sometimes for hours) browsing and fishing for the next novel, and sometimes magazines (yes, I’m also collecting magazines – Cosmopolitan and OK! for instance), if not a Pugad Baboy comic book (I got all the issues to date). And when we’re together hanging around the house, he gives me time to read! He checks on me once in a while, to say hello-earth-to-Jelyn and make sure I haven’t drifted to Lalaland yet. Isn’t that sweet? And while waiting for me to close my book and snap back to reality, he spends his time playing computer games. Hehe.

Friday the 13th

Sabi nila malas na araw daw ngayon. Ayokong sumang-ayon, ayoko din kumontra. Ano nga ba mga magaganda at hindi magagandang nangyari sa akin ngayon?

Umpisahan sa Hindi Maganda list:

1. Hindi ako masyado nakatulog. Kasi tuwing makakatulog ako, masama ang panaginip ko. Puro vampires. Buti sana kung gwapo yung vampire. Tsk.

2. Na-sprain ko ata ang left ankle ko. Pagbangon ko sa kama, namali ako ng tapak, na-out balanced, at ayun. Masakit siya hanggang ngayon.

3. Late ako nagising, kaya late din pumasok sa office. 9:00 am na ako nakarating.

4. At dahil sa pagmamadali, hindi ako nakapag-breakfast. Nagkita na naman kami ni pareng Mini Stop.

5. Ayaw magboot ng maayos ng laptop ko. Dalawang beses ko nireboot.

6. Hindi pa ako naglulunch hanggang ngayon (timecheck: 4:56pm). Andaming ginagawa, pati pagkain hindi maisingit sa oras.

7. Mukhang uuwi ako mag-isa ngayon. Kasi si Sweetie ay may general meeting sa frat nila. Dederecho na siya sa UP after office.

 

Eto naman ang Maganda list ko:

1. Natapos ko na ang latest pocketbook ko na Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella. Next book na ako: Remember Me?

2. Nagbigay ako ng 20 pesos sa isang matandang pulubi kanina.

3. Walang traffic sa EDSA hanggang Ayala. (Pero late pa din ako.)

4. Binigyan ako ng chili sauce para sa fried siomai na inorder ko sa Mini Stop. Dati kasi, bibigyan ka lang nila pag steamed siomai ang order mo.

5. Binigay ni Sweetie sakin yung potato chips niya from Delifrance.

6. Nakapagdownload ako ng 1 movie at 2 series episodes ngayon kahit mahigpit ang IT namin.

7. May nagbigay sakin ng 1 pirasong Fox’s candy, cherry flavor.

8. Sabi ni Sweetie sakin, may date daw kami bukas. Yay! =)

9. Malakas ang pakiramdam kong makakapag Java Chip grande (without whip cream) ako sa Starbucks mamaya. =)

10. Nalaman kong dumami ang vacation days namin ni Sweetie, based sa work schedule namin dito sa office. Weee!

 

See…sinong maysabing malas ngayon? Depende sa tao kung pano mo titimbangin ang araw mo.

Special day at MOA

Because this is a special week, we headed to Mall of Asia last Wednesday afternoon right after renewing our passports at DFA.

We dined at Don Henrico’s, and I really liked their baked mussels. It’s definitely a must-try.  I’ll try to cook this at home. =)

Their pepperoni pizza is good too, but somewhat this-is-how-most-pepperoni-pizzas-should-taste-like kind of good.

Apart from some flies occasionally landing on our tabletop and a baby insect appearing under the ice cubes inside my glass, their place is nice and cozy. And oh, one of the waiters is a bit clumsy.

To Columbia afterwards! I was able to get this pair:

Half day

Half day lang ako sa office ngayon. Late na nagising, kaya tanghali na pumasok. Sakto 1pm, kakatapos lang ng lunch.

Pagkadating ko, nagpatawag agad ng meeting si Joey Leviste. Lunch meeting pala, nagpadeliver sa Kenny Rogers ng Chicken-Spaghetti meals. Sana pala hindi muna ako naglunch. Tinabi ko na lang, baka magutom ulit ako sa meryenda.

Halos hindi naman seryoso usapan. Puro jokes mga hirit niya. Napag-isip tuloy ako kung totoo ba yung buhok na nasa ulo niya. Hehe.

Maya maya umalis na ulit siya papuntang KL. Pasulpot sulpot lang naman yon dito sa office.

Kaninang umaga inoperahan na si Daddy. Bumalik ulit kasi yung goiter niya. Nakalabas na daw sa operating room. Buti ok na ulit siya.

Iba na talaga pag tumatanda na, lumalabas na ang mga sakit. Kaya mas kelangan bigyan ng atensyon ang kalusugan.

Speaking of kalusugan, dapat pala magpakahealthy na ulit ako. Hehe.

Antukin

Antok na antok ako sa office ngayon. Lalo pagtapos maglunch. Hatinggabi na kasi ako nakatulog kagabi, birthday kasi ni Tito Dong at as usual, may videoke party.

Nakaidlip ako saglit sa workstation ko, pero hindi idlip ang tawag don. Power nap. Oha, corporate ang dating. Kaso 10 mins lang kasi nakakahiya.

Ayoko naman magkape, hindi kasi magkasundo ngayon ang tiyan ko at kape. Kaya buti na lang may Tostillas ako for emergency.

Tanggal antok ko! Plus kelangan ko pa maglakad papuntang pantry para kumuha ng tubig. Gising na gising talaga ako.

Nagpicture picture na rin ako ng sarili para makadagdag pampagising. Tamang tama, suot ko ang aking bagong blouse. Yellow din tulad ng Tostillas. Canary yellow, to be exact. Kakulay ko na si Tweety Bird saka si Cory.

I just came back yesterday from my 1-month fieldwork in Isabela. Oh how I missed Manila’s traffic. And malls!

May isang asong pagala-gala dito sa office compound namin sa Isabela. Nakakaawa kasi sobrang payat. Bakat na bakat na yung mga ribs niya.

Deformed pa yung nguso niya dahil itinali ng alambre nung dating may-ari sa kanya (na patay na). At dahil nga patay na yung dati niyang amo, tumawid siya ng bakod papunta sa compound namin last week, naghahanap ng makakain.

Nung una ko siyang pinakain, gutom na gutom talaga siya…parang nun lang ulit nakakain sa mahabang panahon.

Parang nadudurog ang puso namin pag nakikita siya. Kaya tuwing kakain ako, sinasadya kong hindi ubusin para maibigay sa kanya yung tira.

Ngayon, matapos ang isang linggo, medyo maliksi na siya. Di tulad dati na kahit humakbang ay hinang hina. Lagi na siya nakatambay sa labas ng opisina kasi alam niyang may pagkain na dadating.

Hindi ko alam ang totoong pangalan niya, pero ang tawag ko sa kanya ay Chuck. As in Chuck Norris. Kasi hopefully hindi na siya Mal Norris. hakhak…ang corny.

Bobita Peron

Anak ng tinalupang tipaklong. Wala nang mas sasarap pa sa almusal na nilagang kabobohan. Yung tipong mainit init pa, nakakapaso.

Gisingin ka ba naman sa tawag ng isang manager na itago na lang natin sa pangalang Miss Bobita Peron. Ang issue? Gusto niyang ipagpaliban ang pag-uwi ko sa Manila sa Feb 24 para lang magsupervise ng laborers hanggang sa 28th.

Wut?

Dumating ako dito sa Cordon nung Jan 28 para mag geologic log ng 45,000 km ng bato. Inuulit ko: 45,000 ki-lo-me-tersss. Importante ito para sa resource estimation ng kumpanya. Eniwey, naka-schedule akong bumalik ng Manila sa Feb 24 para ayusin ang database, pumirma sa annual reports, etc. Yung mga core boxes na nakalatag eh kelangan pang ibalik sa warehouse at aabutin ng 4-5 araw yun bago matapos ibalik. Ang worry ni Bobita, wala daw magsusupervise sa 12 na laborers hanggang 28th.

Are you kidding me?!

Ano pa bang kelangang isupervise dun? Eh kahit nga taong may aning-aning eh kayang gawin yun nang hindi binabantayan. Duh! Ano bang mahirap sa pagbabalik ng core boxes sa warehouse, bukod sa pagbubuhat mismo?

At hello?! Yung mga tao ko eh matatalino at masisipag, hindi na kelangan pang bantayan para lang kumilos. Hindi tulad ng mga alipores ni Bobita na walang ginawa kundi magchat maghapon. Kahit nga simpleng email eh hindi marunong magcompose, sigurado ba siyang fit yun maging HR personnel? Aydontinkso.

And another thing, does she really think that supervising these people would be a much better use of my time? It’s not even in my goddamn job description! (Ayan na, nag-e-english na ako, galit na eh.) I have a lot of very important things to do waiting for me at the Makati office. And if you think about it, would you let your Geologist whom the company’s paying at least $100/day to JUST supervise some laborers for 5 days? Do the math.

Malamang hindi na naman nag-isip itong si Bobita bago gumamit ng telepono. Marami naman siyang staff na walang ginagawa hindi naman busy, edi yun na lang ang ilagay niya dito para magbantay. At isa pa, ano pang silbi ng mga guards dito diba?

Sigh. Siguro dapat araw-araw kong padalhan ng Sudoku puzzle itong si Bobita. Para ma-exercise naman ang utak paminsan minsan. Hindi na makuha sa dasal eh.

Ayan tuloy, hindi pa man ako nagsisimulang magtrabaho, masakit na agad ulo ko. Tsk.

Since lagi ko siya pinapakain ng tirang kanin, naging close na kami sa isa’t isa. Na-feel ko yon.

Kaya kahapon, hindi ako tumigil sa pagbigay sa kanya ng tinapay, hanggang sa…well, naubos yung tinapay. Heart-shaped pa yung tinapay na pinakain ko sa kanya ha. Naks.

Alam ko tuwang tuwa si Pogi kahapon. Pano ko nalaman? Basta. Close na nga kami e.

Ako rin natuwa. Mabait kasing aso si Pogi. Isang tawag mo lang, lalapit agad. (Kung sabagay, diba lahat ng aso ganun?) Saka lagi niya ko sinasamahan sa core house pag nagtatrabaho ako….yun eh kung gising siya. Mas madalas kasi tulog lang siya e. Puyat siguro.

Bakit nga ba Pogi pangalan niya? Tagal ko na pinag-iisipan e. Sabagay, kung ikaw yung aso, Pogi din pipiliin mo.  Kahit na sinisitsitan ka ng iba, tawag ng amo mo sayo eh Pogi. Diba?
