05.24.2025 My Favorite Spring Ephemeral…Can You Guess What It Is?
05.23.2025 A poor excuse of an explanation
For my earlier post I couldn’t decide whether to acknowledge my absence and decided to not since I did that once before and then disappeared again. I can’t say for sure whether that’ll be the case this time but it’s an available time thing. I appreciate those of you who follow this blog and one reason I stepped back was not having the time to respond in kind to everyone else’s posts which I thought to be unappreciative. I’ve a bit more time now as I am just working 5 hours a day 3 or 4 days/week so maybe I’ll be better able to take part in blogging. I’ve been active on Facebook but for some reason that isn’t as difficult, for me at least, to stay current.
05.23.2025 When you least expect it…
you see something right outside your door.
We’ve been having a lot of rainy days recently which has put a “damper” on shooting. That’s a good excuse anyway. Probably more lack of motivation than the weather. Anyhow, on the way into the house after work the other day I noticed the raindrops on some of our Hostas and a sensitive fern frond.
Just an iPhone grab shot. These new fangled contraptions come in handy on occasion. 😀

10.30.2024 Spillway Fun
The Quabbin Spillway is intended to allow overflow to escape the reservoir rather than spill over the dams that hold the 4 billion+ gallons of water and cause downstream flooding. Often it is not in action as the water levels in many years are at drought levels. However this past April we had some wonderful rain events and the water was overflowing into the spillway.
As I walked along the road checking for waterflow images I noticed that where the water was flowing past the supports for the spillway gate some interesting patterns and shapes were formed by the ripple effect.
Since I made these images we have had very little rain, as is the case in many states here in the U.S. and there is little need for overflow control.

10.25.2024-2 Fog Friday
I had to add one of my other favorite subjects.
While on Mount Pollux for the super moon we had clear skies for the moon shot. But afterwards a thick fog developed which offered some unexpected opportunities. I’ve shot several trees in fog on the mountain but this was the first with the sun.

10.25.2024 Frog Friday at Lake Wallace
Years ago there was a special school, like so many others across the country, for mentally challenged people. Many spent their lives in this institution with a few exceptions who managed to get released back into society. The school was eventually closed and the people there were placed in more beneficial surroundings. The property has seen many changes including a body of water now called Lake Wallace, more like a pond than a lake. I went there one Sunday morning to photograph frogs and ended up with a few other subjects.
Bullfrog in Duckweed in Lake Wallace
Green Heron on Rotting Stump in Lake Wallace
Mural on Berkshire Ave on building in former Belchertown State School
I haven’t had a chance to get current with your posts but will this weekend. Thanks for visiting.

10.22.2024 The Super Full Hunter’s Moon on Mount Pollux
I’m back…at least for one post. Not sure about the future but at least for one day my mojo is back.
Recently a Facebook friend, and now blogging friend, Kerry Mark Liebowitz visited me while on a personal mission and we spent several days shooting foliage together here in Western Massachusetts. But possibly the highlight of the week was the Super Full Hunters Moon on Thursday morning, 10.17.2024. I had hoped that it would be setting over the Holyoke Mountain Range but upon checking the Photographer’s Ephemeris saw that it would be too far to the north for that. So we rushed around, I had got us there a few minutes later than I should have, and found a few compositions to make it a bit more interesting than just a moon in the sky.
Here’s my favorite of the bunch.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
