Less than twenty-five

The most difficult thing for people to say in 25 words or less is good-bye. — anonymous

Elios

These are some of my stellar teammates in Elios - the sun team. We hoped to bring warmth to the family we were helping as well as radiate joy to share with everyone we meet.

Kossy: I really respect construction workers now. Laying bricks or cutting steel wires isn't a laughing matter and takes sheer skill to get it right the first time.

Ange: I've got kitty whiskers now! (refering to the rust stains all over her clothes and arms)

Martina: My pants has got a revamped look now! (refering to the dirt and stains that got onto her jeans).

Huiqi: We look like we've just emerged from a war! (i think it was a war with the elements of the mother nature - soil, water, sun, sand!).

Rumar Liar
Many of the Batam residents come from other parts of Indonesia. They subsequently become permanent residents of Batam but are unable to own a decent home due to the property prices. They then build structures to be used as their residences in many areas which prohibit such developments. These become known as rumar liar (ruli) which literally means unlawful dwellings. Most of the residents have no regular source of income as they work as factory workers, farmers, garbage collectors, street vendors, helpers or drivers. Their average income is less than USD 7 a day.

This is Nisa, the daughter of the family we helped in Batu Aji, Batam.
