Two just-for-a-few-days variants of standard winter easy breakfasts:

DE LUXE PORRIDGE (also known as porage, which I should prefer, because in my personal abbreviated writing system that comes out as PORK). Porridge is a filling and healthy breakfast, but just a bit boring, so I usually add a bit of root ginger, powdered cinnamon or grated nutmeg. I normally make it half-milk-and-half-water, a tiny amount of salt (no more for health reasons) and barely a teaspoon of sugar (occasionally honey). The deluxe version: To the porridge flakes and liquid, add freshly-grated nutmeg, a bit less than a teaspoon of brandy butter, likewise of Wood’s Navy Rum and a bit more than a teaspoon of Canadian Maple Syrup. Not boring.

MIDWINTER CRUMPETS. Crumpets are not very healthy because, to be palatable, they need a fair bit of butter. OK, then, substitute brandy butter and finish with home-made (low sugar, very tangy) cranberry jam (could try marmalade?) – or instead of (brandy) butter, use sour cream and top with that maple syrup. Very tasty, but definitely to be kept as a treat.
