September 2024 Updates

Where do I start?

… I almost forgot about this blog site that I had since 2008, made an effort to try and update all the posts during Covid lockdown period but couldn’t pull through to the end…

I guess I’ll just make a summarized list of major events happening since then till now eh?

  1. Yes my Charmant is still with me, still running a 1.6 ltr 4AGE, turbocharged (TD05 turbo) and now powered by MaxxECU, tuned by Johnny Yong (aka CWG, Car Wash Guy), estimated power output should be slightly over 200hp on wheels.
  2. My Daihatsu Charmant changed sponsors over the years, for the past 3-4 years, I’ve being supported by FRT (Fusing Racing Team) and Suzuka Lubricants, and have been running Westlake and RoadX tyres. Until 2 years ago, I got recruited into FHPPC and eventually switched sponsors from Suzuka to Penrite. Being in FHPPC really propels my Motorsport capabilities as I get to be involved in a whole lot more events despite the commitments from both family and work, nothing but absolute gratitude to FHPPC!
  3. Our drift team, Sidewayz Squad is finally officially registered on the KBS PJS since late 2022 and is now called ‘SidewayzSquad Motorsports Club’, not only that, I’ve also assisted FHPPC in getting their team registered as well in early 2023. GYX from Miri also followed soon after, a few other motorsports club are getting serious and all registered afterwards, which also included KDC (Kucing Drift Crew) and a couple others, all of us are also affiliated with SMA (Sarawak Motorsports Association), local motorsport scene is now getting more and more serious, as things grow bigger, it needs to get more professionally done, which is a positive and correct path we’re all heading to.
  4. Bullzai (well known Malaysian drifter) and his team (Exquisite Motorsports Club) founded the NDS (National Drift Series) in recent years and has been growing bigger and bigger in the Malaysia drift scene, and in 2023, it finally came into Borneo, with 1st round held in KK and 2nd and 3rd round held in Miri, Sarawak. Many of us came together to form a collaborated organizing committee to make sure the 1st ever NDS Borneo event would run successfully and I can tell you that we were super glad we did not dissappoint, which is a huge relief for all of us! We were very happy to see that Sarawak drift scene grew into such a scale and level, who would’ve thought huh?
  5. I’ve been driving FHPPC 200sx Silvia (aka Pinky) on couple of events, time attacks and also NDS Borneo and managed to did quite well, in July 2024, I competed in NDS Borneo R2 again but now with my own Charmant and managed to qualify pretty well again, which was a big surprise even for myself, unfortunately my lack of seat time and my own driving mistakes costs me my losses during the Tandem battles.

With the popularity of Social Media nowadays, everyone is on FB, Instagram, Tik Tok and etc, I can tell you we’re all still pretty active on those platforms, and I’m pretty sure there’s a whole lot more to update but I don’t think I have the time to dig through the histories once more, anyhow, above 5 major updates are what I can think of right now, and I’ll update again if there’s any more to add later on, maybe? who knows? we’ll see….

What’s next? well… a lot of us are getting older, our friends, team mates all got different other commitments, mainly in their own families, works and what not, but one thing is for sure, me (Stanley) will still be around in the local drift scene, albeit not as active as before, but my passion for driving is still there, do catch me on Social Media, till next time, ciao!

Kuching Drift Party – 11th Nov 2018

With the momentum carried from the last Bintulu Drift Party, Kuching’s StayTuned Motorsports Club formed a sub team for the drifting sector, named ‘Kuching Drift Crew’, and they’ve acquired the permits to host a drifting event at the Samarahan Civic Center open car park.

Invitations were extended to all the drift enthusiasts throughout Sarawak, participants included me and my Sidewayz Squad buddies of course, as well as the up and coming Miri drifters such as Hee Wei Seng, Johnny and Wallace.

We arrived a day before and we’re treated with a nice welcoming dinner in a Chinese restaurant, thanks KDC!

The best part is of course on actual event day, the event was very well organized with plenty of helpers and marshals on site to ensure safety and keep everything in order, since there’s no competition, all of us drivers get to immediately get into drifting right after the morning briefing, it was short and simple, followed by a opening ceremony.

The weather for the entire day was very good, the track layout is quite similar to the Elite Speedway track in KL, it starts with a high 2nd gear right hand sweeper then a tight hairpin, followed by a quick transition to the left to finish the course. The high to low speed transition caught many of the drivers off guard, including me, but after a couple runs I managed to get the hang of it, and it just gets more fun from then on.

It’s the first ever drift party in Kuching, and KDC definitely outdid themselves, the hospitality rendered to us outsiders were also top notch, and all of us enjoyed the event very much, well done and thank you KDC!
