Earth Run 2010 and beyond…

The month of March started without my friends or even me thinking that I would be running a race, not in my lifetime. I just had too many lazy bones and to I could manufacture a billion reasons not to run…not until April 18th.

Gunstart was at 6am, the weather was in favor for the runners; not too hot, not too windy, it was just perfect.  Started with a slow pace, I was faced with a petty challenge. Within a kilometer range from the starting line, was a crowd of slow joggers, walkers and people taking photos of themselves. Getting past this crowd would require extra effort, it looked like an obstacle race.  Luckily after sprinting for maybe 8 minutes, I was able to get past the walkers and ran with the real runners.  I was on my 14th minute when I decided to take a walk for a minute then ran again to the finish line.  It took me 19:09 mins for 3km. Fastest so far. During my practice runs, my fastest was 25 mins.

When I was in the cab on my way home, very much inspired, I thought of the goals I set on the day I ran the first time. To run 5k on my birthday and to be back on the size 25″ waistline were getting nearer to reality.

It is time to set a new and long term goal.

Thank you Majane, Geinah and Joy ( who showed up in heels) for waking up earlier than your usual waking hours to accompany me.  I am looking forward to running with you girls soon. To Phantom for reminding me to breathe (of course I needed to breathe) and for being proud of me, you make me proud too.

Wishlist (an update)

in order of necessity:

-nike  dedication sports bra

-running socks (any brand, the nike cotton socks I bought is giving me blisters.)

-hydration bottle

ipod nano 3g armband

sports clip ear bud

-nike dri fit racerback or shirt

-timex or rudy project  sportswatch (meantime, i bought a very cheap sports watch (100 pesos) for the stop watch feature.)

-nike+ sensor with receiver

– sports backpack (with shoe compartment)

My Training Program 2

2 days away from my first fun run and I am just excited. My toe is healing, no more clots. I pray that everything will turn out good, good weather, good body condition, good aura and good everything.

I am on the second half of my 8 week training and as promised, here it is!

ULTRA run

One of the plenty reasons I enjoy about running is the fact that I can do it by myself.  The need of a partner can be slashed out. Four days ago, I was contemplating between UP and Ultra. Ultra is  a stones  throw away from me but I had never ran there before. Ai told me how good the track is so I was convinced. Equipped with my gears (plus a bottle of water), I commuted my way to the ULTRA oval which took me about 10 mins.

The oval is 400 meters in distance which will equal to about 6 laps for a lap at the UP oval. The track is so neat and it is being frequented by athletes and regular joggers andwalkers. You gotta pay 29 pesos to enter the track. You can leave your stuff by the bleachers  for there are no lockers available.

At 530 pm, I started by warm up walk, then ran for 10 mins straight (another milestone), walked for 1 min. Repeated 2 thrice until I felt the side stitches. I almost puked so I had to stop. Plus the route bored me. Seeing the same set of people, running in circles bored me. UP oval still wins.

My first race is 6 days away and I am really thrilled. Not having a car concerns me, I can’t just leave my stuff anywhere. I am not sure if my friends are really going to be there since the call time is wayyyyyy too early.  Otherwise,  I will be left a choice of buying an armband for my phone where I can put my phone (obviously) and my moolah.  So help me God.

Runner’s Toe

According to Wikipedia:

Runner’s toe is a common condition seen in runners caused by downward pressure or horizontal separation of nail plate from the nail bed. This repetitive traumatic injury leads to bleeding and pooling of blood underneath the nail plate. Clinically, it is characterized by red black discoloration of the toe nail (subungual hematoma). The nail plate may also become thicker and more brittle as a result of the injury (onychochauxis). Fortunately, the deformed nail pate will gradually grow out and be replaced by new normal appearing nail plate in several months time. Infrequently, the toe may become painful and require surgical drainage. Runner’s toe is often associated with malfitting shoes and insufficient space for the toes. Some susceptible runners may also have Morton’s toe. In this variant of human foot anatomy, the second toe extends further out than the great toe. The key to prevention of runner’s toe is to purchase proper fitting shoes.

Why am I blogging this? Cuz my left index toenail is dying and blame it to running. I don’t mind at all, I consider it as a fruit of my labor. Photos? Nah, that’s the last thing you would want to see

Why are you so elusive? Exactly ten days ago when you started all the drama, you left me somnolent the next day. And  I guess I am getting to be your favorite because you never left my bed for 10 lonely nights now? Come on, cut me some slack and move to the next door! My first race is a couple of days from today, I need training to run 3kms without walking and getting the blisters. So please be a darling tonight and give me my long awaited sleep-like-a-drooling-baby mode, ok?

Speaking of training, my bag is all packed up with my running gears and I was supposed to run at the UP oval tonight however, due to business demand, I need to skip and run tomorrow. I’ll get off 24 minutes from now but I am already draining . Yes, I am beat!  My back is now starting to hurt again due to sleepless nights plus it is my 11th hour here at work.  Save the energy tomorrow, and I will run like a wild kid tomorrow.

My First Race

is the Earth Run 3k event. I know… It is the walker’s category but hell I care.  Kulitrunner told me to just enjoy my first race, feel how it is like and not to be conscious about my time and that is what I am doing. I find the xs-sized singlet to be sexy (not body fitting though) as it creates an illusion of a slimmer waistline.

Registration is still on at Res Toe Run outlets but I am afraid that they had shut down the 3k slots. They were telling me at the Glorrietta branch last Monday that they only had 2 slots left for the 3k category.

I am just thrilled!
