Cracking Bakes
The smell of baking filling the house is something I grew up with. When young the best part was getting to eat the cracking bakes. Now, I’m the one doing the baking, sweet and savoury. I still enjoy the taste but get just as much pleasure watching others enjoying.
Baking isn’t difficult but you do need to be precise. Follow the recipe and allow your self time to read and bake. If you rush, you will make mistakes or the presentation will suffer.
Remember to enjoy the process not just the end product.

Know what you are eating
One of the beauties of baking your own food is knowing what is them. Bread is a classic example. When baked at home it has four to five ingredients but from a mass market manufacturer it has between 15 and 20. Those extra ingredients aren’t there for your benefit but the manufacturers.
First steps to cracking bakes
If you are starting your baking journey. Try some of the simple recipes that don’t require any special equipment such as Quick Oat Biscuit. Your first attempt may not look great but they will still taste great. If you like the taste try the recipe again. Correct any mis-steps or give yourself that extra time. Each time you do a recipe you will gain more confidence and it will show in the end product. Once you are comfortable think about buying equipment to make your life easier.
What equipment do I need
In truth you need only a few basic implements to get started with. Check out the equipment page to see the basics and the good to have. There is no point in rushing out to buy expensive items if you don’t actually know that you will enjoy baking. In fact you probably already have the basics. Such as measuring cups and spoons, baking trays, bowls and possibly scales.
