NOISE SHORTAGE
“If everybody thought before they spoke, there wouldn’t be enough noise in the world to scare a bird.” –Evan Esar
Maybe I’m hearing things, but is there not enough noise in the world? One wonders, judging by how many people seemingly can’t stand life unless they’re either making noise or reveling in it. Take Trump (before it’s too late), for example: he’s obviously not happy unless he’s bloviating, proclaiming, and/or lying out loud. Some might say politicians have always done this, but relatively few (such as Hitler) have risen to such depths of derangement — not that Trump’s tens of millions of acolytes are capable of giving the time of day to such blasphemy.
But noise overload isn’t confined to politics. Our very culture (commercials/advertising, entertainment, etc., etc, etc.) is saturated in ‘now-noise’ as never before. Even the electronics in our sports venues implore the home crowd to make noise as a rallying cry (the type of noise isn’t specified, so apparently farting is optional). At times, all this noise is almost enough to make me wish I were deaf (some would say I’m clearly dumb, which suggests I’m already halfway there).
However, I’m not adverse to all noise — even big noise, such as the song BIG NOISE FROM WINNETKA, which I was going to post for you to hear here, but I can’t get the clip to copy….and so I go out with a whimper.

Bloviating is the perfect word for what Trump doesβ¦ he speaks but says absolutely nothing. Iβm tired of the constant noise as well. Long live silenceβ¦

You said it, Rg. America is headed for disaster if Trump becomes President again.

You’re good, Mister Muse! I found the music on YouTube π

Thanks, Rosaliene. I found the song on YouTube, but the way I used to “copy and paste” clips no longer works for me. Old geezer that I am, I can’t keep up with new technology, so when WordPress (or whatever) makes changes, I’m lost.

I agree with the quote from Esar, but given how much other noise we incessantly make, the birds would still be cringing in their nests. Nevertheless, thereβs so much more verbal noise than we ever, ever need, especially from the likes of that mouth that walks like a man.

I’ll look it up on YT too. I ‘love it’ when WP ‘upgrades’ its system. Why can’t they just leave Hell enough alone?
Good to see a return MM.

My sentiments exactly.. I guess it’s asking too much, but why can’t WP make their “upgrades” optional for the sake of those of us who are perfectly happy with how we’re used to doing it? Apparently the tech savvy WP “Wunderkinds” never give a thought to the fact that not all of their users are tech savvy.
Thanks for your final thought, but I’m afraid my “return” will be only sporadic. I’m simply not in a position to post or comment with anything like my former activiity.

I had a great time watching the video. My great aunts were from Winnetka but were no threat!

I need noise; otherwise, I’ll feel like everyone on the planet snuck away while I wasn’t looking… AND IT’S MY BIGGEST FEAR!!!

Even a bigger fear than Trump becoming President again? I wish I could say the same, but I’m afraid I can’t. On the positive side, I’m so old that I’ll probably die before he’s in office very long.

Rump’s noise is worse than useless — it’s downright dangerous, Just how dangerous, we’ll find out if he’s elected Pres again.

Whimper, you say? That was no whimper! I love the drummer on the bass–and then the bassist making it a duet.
So good to have this visit, mm!

The Bobcats leader, Bob Crosby, played “second fiddle” to his brother Bing, but Bob could sing too — and his Bobcats were indeed cool cats!

Remember the Dinah Shore TV show? Her band made her do BNFW for a gag because she couldn’t whistle. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

I do indeed remember that show, but I don’t recall seeing the BNFW gag. I’ll have to check online to see if there’s a clip of it. Thanks for your comment!

I’m still “out there” but, unfortunately, have been unable to blog due to being overwhelmed with family health issues. My wife is in a long term care facility (she has a weak heart, dementia, & broken hip (among other ailments)). My two daughters (the youngest of whom resides with me due to being unable to work or live alone) also have serious health issues. I am coping as best i can, but old age is limiting what I can do. In short, I don’t foresee resuming blogging anytime soon (if ever).
Thank you so much for your concern, Mary (forgive me if I mis-remembered your name). Take care.
