After a rather long hiatus tied to multiple jobs, moving, and my PC breaking I am finally back and reviewing. My writing may have dropped off but my comic obsession did not! Two of my favorite books, FF and Hawkeye both had releases this week but with the Future Foundation building to their epic conclusion and Kate taking a trip with a backup artist…my eyes fell elsewhere.

Been enjoying some ComicCon sales without having to be in San Diego! I’ll be sharing some of my haul when I get a day off next week. This Wednesday actually had some surprisingly solid releases for what has been a pretty uneventful summer. Also shoutouts to the user on SomethingAwful that linked to my Inhuman Diplomacy article. I’ve been getting some traffic from there so welcome and thank you! I’m going to do more of those now that I see people kind of care about little blurbs like that!

HA. This one is going to come out on time! While Hawkeye dropped a second issue in just as many weeks we got filler art but a decent story. That said there were some books I enjoyed this week that you all should be reading too!

With the continuing summer lull (at least for titles I’m excited for) I found a few books from my pull that I enjoyed this week. In addition I’ve been rereading some old favorite titles including Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force, Warren Ellis’s Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E., and Gerrard Way’s Umbrella Academy. I’ll be the first to admit that my musical background is fucked. From boy bands and Abba and Enya and oh my god there’s a reason I don’t have this attachment to music. Spending most of my formative music years with my mom and younger sister meant it was years before I found my niches. As a result most of the music I loved as a kid was video game music, most notably on the Super Nintendo (and my neighbor’s Genesis) Recently I found that YouTube combo master desk released (and has released) a techno album that I love. Reminisent of the Sega Genesis sound, Reset is a catchy bit of music with its roots in my childhood.
Alright so I missed out on writing about Ten Grand when it first hit but I’m not missing this opportunity. I’d seen in several internet circles that J. Michael Straczynski, writer of The Amazing Spider-Man from 2001-2007, was publishing a new independent title. I knew nothing about it and wound up finding a seriously dark take on contemporary horror. Think Supernatural but R-rated.
