What happening to our economy?

Fennie Mae and Freddie Mac (lets call them McFunnies) were formed by the US Congress (in Malaysia they would be Statutory bodies formed by statutes passed in the parliament) to provide funds to banks to lend out money to people who wants to buy houses. McFunnies got their money by selling bonds. Their bonds gave a slightly better yield then the treasury bills (M’sia: Cagamas etc) and the McFunnies bonds were not guaranteed by the Feds (in Malaysia is Bank Negara). Guess who lend the money to McFunnies? Well a lot of them are foreigners (non-US). Where they got so much money? The US bought a lot of stuff from overseas, such as oil and chinese goods. So when these goods are sold in USD, the sellers gets USD, and they left the money in the US in the form of treasury bills and McFunnies papers. Lehman Brothers was an investment bank. In simple terms, just like normal bank, they make money by lending out the money they borrowed from someone else. The only difference here is, in Malaysia or ...
