Welcome to my newly updated About page. I am Maximillian Scot, just another soul trying to appreciate this world until being called home. Thoughtsalone is for anyone who contemplates the mystery of his or her own unique existence while realizing that we are also all simultaneously connected to everyone and everything else.
Mine has been a nontraditional path. I grew up in a large working class family with mixed Hessian mercenary and Amish pacifist roots in Appalachia. At 18 I left home to study nuclear engineering, then served 20 years as an Army officer working and fighting in Europe, the Middle East, Far East, Africa, and central Asia. After retirement, I became a consultant and international businessman returning to where I once fought to make friends. Now I am a sometimes teacher, and full time outpatient therapist working with a wide variety of individual and family clients. Along the way I have met an incredible assortment of people, and been privileged to see and experience first-hand diverse cultures around the world. I have loved, lost, succeeded, failed, and undergone an often mystifying spiritual journey. Through it all, my most rewarding moments have been as a husband, father, brother, and friend.
Regardless of gender, race, occupation, or creed, each of us lives in the illusion of his own little world. It’s when we share or meet face to face, that we realize – despite our perceived separateness – that we are all manifestations of the same wandering spirit. For the people I’ve loved, for my brothers in arms, and for any soul who finds comfort and solace in knowing we are not alone, I share these thoughts.
…But mostly I do it for my own peace of mind as I continue my journey to find the way back home.

Hello there, you are clearly someone with solid opinions and plenty of experience and knowledge to back it up. I served myself – Navy – Cold War stuff. Was in combat that no one has ever heard about [Turns out the “Cold” war wasn’t so cold in the spots I was ordered to visit] In any event, I, too, discovered that no one really had much more than a pat on the back or a shoulder shrug when I returned. I’ve been re-inventing myself ever since. I like your blog – keep up the good work!
