Fissure 8, Kilauea Volcano Hawaii

Fissure 8, Kilauea Volcano Hawaii

Photo of "Fissure 8" from the 2018 Lower East Rift Zone eruption on Kilauea Volcano. The Lower East Rift Zone eruption began on May 3rd after an intrusion of magma into the rift zone, where eventually 24 fissures opened. Activity focused on fissure 8 at the end of May and ceased after August 5th in 2018. This photo was taken on the 28th of June 2018 on an overflight with G. Brad Lewis and is a composite of several images. This was the largest Lower East Rift Zone eruption in 200 years and destroyed 716 dwellings, and covered 30 miles of road according to HVO. This activity marked the end of an eruption that began in 1983.

Rock or fish?

This Devil Scorpionfish thought he looked so much like the rocks that he could fool us. Can't fool a pair of geologists! You are no rock!

Can you spot the fish?

Look at that face!

Sorry buddy you are no rock!
