Hello, and welcome to my world! I’m a South African living in the Netherlands, a mother of three beautiful daughters, and an avid storyteller on a mission to share the unique and sometimes challenging experiences of my life. Through my blog, I invite you to step into my shoes as I navigate the intricate path of living as a foreigner in a new country, embracing the roles of a wife, mother, and simply being a woman of faith and what that means in the midst of it all.
Life as an expat has its own set of joys and heartaches, and in my writings, I’ll be sharing my highs and lows of this incredible journey. From the picturesque Dutch canals to the nostalgia of South African landscapes, my heart is divided between two worlds, and I’ll take you along on my quest to find the perfect balance of finding peace where God planted me, and the longing of my deep set roots.
As a mother of three daughters, my life is a beautifully chaotic blend of giggles, tears, and never-ending love. I’ll share the trials and triumphs of raising a family in a foreign culture, where bedtime stories might be in Dutch, and weekend outings lead us to places we never thought we’d explore. Blessed beyond measures to give our daughters such an enriched life. Trying to raise them as God loving children, in a world where they will be the exception.
But my blog isn’t just about motherhood. It’s about the complexity of being a woman, with dreams, aspirations, and a tourney of self-discovery. I’ll delve into the challenges of pursuing personal goals while wearing multiple hats and finding moments of self-care in the midst of daily chaos.
Throughout these pages, you’ll find stories of adaptation, cultural encounters, and the profound impact of distance on the heart. I’ll invite you into my world as I embrace new traditions, celebrate old ones, and occasionally shed a tear for the land I hold dear.
Why thula thu? Thula Thu is an African (South African; Zulu lullaby) .If you are South African you know this song…I feel Africa in my heart & soul when hearing this song.It makes me think of being a mom in tough times. It makes me feel the calmness that only a mother’s love can give…It gives me that “I am home” feeling!
“Thula thu, thula baba thula sana
Thulโ u babโ uzobuya ekuseni.
Thula thu, thula mtwana thula sana
Thulโu babโ uzobuya enthabeni.
Sobe si khona a baye beshoyo
Bethi buyela u buye le khaya
Sobe si khona a baye beshoyo,
Bethi buya mtwana ubuye le khaya
Thula thula, thula sana
Thula thula, thula baba
Thula thula, thula mtwana
Thula thula, thula baโฆ”
