In this day and age, sometimes it’s hard to step outside our own little boxes.

We don’t notice what’s going on in town, or even just down the street.

Here lately people’s minds have been busy. Thinking of bills. Thinking ahead to holidays.

Although a good chunk of us living under Lady Liberty’s skirt are remembering 911, and some of us, are suffering the loss of a loved one from that horrible day.

Now with all that weight on our shoulders, let us take a look at some of our neighbors that are carrying so much weight that Atlas himself would crumble beneath it.

A friend of mine recently pointed my nose to a certain little area of the news, discussing the drought and fires in our own Lone Star state.

This got me thinking.

How many people would even send me and those around me a caring thought when my world was crumbling down, if they didn’t know me personally?

It’s time like this, that no matter where we are from, we SHOULD be caring. When your neighbor is in trouble you help them in any way you can. To look away from troubles isn’t making them go away, its just betrayl of your fellow man.

These volunteers haven’t slept in days, between helping to put down fires, helping family members stay together, and helping each other stay strong as they watch their community defiantly turn to ash against their efforts.

Even if you didn’t believe, wouldn’t you hope someone cared enough to pray for you if this was all that was left of the place you were raised?

These people need our hope, our prayers, our manpower, anything we can give to them. Because right now, everything that once brought them security and peace is on fire.

Sometimes a little care and a hug can keep you just strong enough to carry on. Other times, it lets you know that someone else loves you enough to carry you when you are too weak to carry on.

Love is the most important this world has to offer, and yet, so many of us are too bitter and self absorbed to give any.

911 isn’t our only tragedy today.

Let’s do what we can to help, shall we?

I know what you are thinking. “Yes Zaz, this is all very sad but make your point. What are YOU gonna do about it?”

Personally? I’m going to dig into a little research and see if I were able to get some donations, where I would send them, and work from there.

Should I be able to find such info, I am going to go to local grocers and ask to put out a box for donations of food and toiletries for people that lost their homes during this disaster.

If that doesn’t work. I am gonna hope and pray for these people every day.

I may not be the most faithful person in the world, probably one of the least.

Sometimes its just best to believe in hope.
