Tuinier

tuinier
(Denn alles Fleisch, Es ist wie Gras)

daar is soveel
nog te doen
in hierdie tuin

ek stry vergeefs
teen al die groen
van klimop, gras
en opslagkruid

my kruietuin
van marjolein
en roosmaryn
is reeds verswelg

self gaan ek ten gronde
deur molle bedolwe
en oor alles groei weer gras.

Sirkus

sirkus

van buite kyk ons die ring in
ruik ons die vars saagsels
en soos ’n hond op ’n leeuspoor
snuif ons versigtig
die geur van die wilde dier

op die rand van ons stoel
balanseer ons
saam met die touloper
met sy paal wat weerskante
oor die afgrond hang

hansworse laat ons oopmond lag
en vir ’n oomblik vergeet
van die volgende dag
en dat ons toekyk
vanuit ‘n donker nag

Sederberg Sleeppad

ons trek verby
*kleinhartseer
op die sleeppad

oorkant die vallei
hoor ons bobbejane blaf

belaai met rugsak en tent
en nog stadblind
hoor ons hulle net

naak en kaalvoet
is hulle tuis
in hierdie wildernis
en hierdie keer
kruis ons weë nie

maar tog, eendag
trek ons almal saam
by groothartseer.

4 Januarie 1997

*kleinhartseer:
‘n Plek gemerk op sommige kaarte van die Sederberg.
Of daar ook ‘n groothartseer is, weet ek nie!

Zebra Limerick

Something Over Tea inspired this:

A zebra there was with no stripes
erased they all were with wet wipes
– but never you fear
– for Plascon is here
with ready mixed black and white stripes!

Mixed Nuts

On a recent flight we were given a little (!) bag of mixed nuts. That got me thinking:

There once was a nut from Brazil
Who said to a peanut: I will
– But the match was unhappy
– Their sex life was crappy
Which proves that mixed nuts just don’t thrill!

Sybille

Sybille

Op welke blaar
Wat jy in die wind laat dryf
Het jy die antwoord
Op my vraag geskryf?

Wie beheers die warrelwind
Wat die blare met jou woorde
Aan ons soekendes
So argeloos verbind?

En ás ‘n blaar
My uiteindelik sou kry
Sou dit dan vir my
Van my noodlot kon bevry?

Convenient Falsehoods

The latest Climate Change hyperbole: Global Boiling!

Have you noticed:
– A heatwave is Global Warming,
– A cold snap is Climate Change,
– Global warming is GOOD for creepy-crawlies like mosquitos, spiders, rats, etc.
– Global warming is BAD for cuddly, furry critters like polar bears, koalas, pandas, etc.

However, on a more serious note, here is photographic proof of Global Boiling in Simon’s Town, it shows bricks literally melting away!

Preventative Maintenance

Road Repair in Fish Hoek

Capetonians like to brag that their city is the best run city on the African continent.

Well, the above photograph shows just one reason why this is true. Whereas all roads outside of the Western Cape are riddled with potholes, here in Cape Town, we stop the potholes in their tracks, so to speak. The moment a baby pothole dares to make an appearance, it gets plastered over.

With waterproof plaster nogal.

The City Works For You.

How did they …

Q. How did the Bokke manage to win the RWC for the fourth time and the last two in a row?

A. Because SA Rugby is not run by the government.

I guess that is the answer to just about everything that still works in this country.

PS
The photo is an old one – probably the previous RWC.
