• That’s all folks…

    michael raven

While I won’t commit to not posting on sceadugenga (or walksinshadows.wordpress.com when it reverts to a free account), the bulk of my writing, musings, music and knickknack paddywhack posts are now over at my new home, RAVENSWEALD. This is likely be my last notification of the move.

If you want to continue gathering insights into my mostly-fluff brain, you’ll want to head on over there. If not, now is as good a time as any to have an excuse to stop following me.

At this time, I do plan to eventually delete portions of content from this site with the exceptions of the Elder Futhark content (for the time being), but I am in no rush to do so. If there is something you wish to remind yourself of in one of my posts (music recommendation, other WP authors, etc.), however, I would do it sooner than later.

Thank you for all of your support over the years.

  • Group Read of “Out” by Natsuo Kirino || End of Wk 4 [Final]

    michael raven

Well, those of us who read along on this book should be winding up on the final part, Exit around today — if you haven’t already.

Because this is likely one of the last few posts on this site, I’ll remind you to head over to ravensweald.com if reading and lightly discussing fiction with a group is something that floats your boat. I’m not sure when I’ll push for another book to group-read but the awesome readers that visit have slipped me some thought-provoking comments about the books (both here and there) and I feel that I am a better reader (and maybe writer) for their input.

Without further ado, let’s get on with it.

  • Update on my little ghost town

    michael raven

Photo by Sebastian V. on Pexels.com

You may have noticed a distinct lack of activity here at sceadugenga lately. Or maybe not. I try to not make too many assumptions about people who follow the site.

If, somehow, you missed the other posts about the matter: The reason for this becoming more like a ghost town than a hub of interaction is not because I have stopped assaulting audiences with my questionable writing, but because I have moved my questionable writing over to ravensweald.com.

This post will be one of the last increasingly infrequent posts you can find here and is a nudge to adjust which site you follow if you want to continue reading the doggerel and detritus I post. If you don’t, that’s quite understandable too — no hard feelings.

However, while I don’t harbor ill will to anyone who doesn’t come along for the ride, I’m going to take this opportunity to clean up my own followed blogs to be more representative of the community that does tag along or includes blogs that provide content that captures my varied interests (how-to, “visit our fair city” and advice blogs are not something that captures my varied interests). While I won’t follow everyone who comes along, your chances of my (continued) following back increase significantly if you do.

Again, no hard feelings from me — I just prefer to have interactive relationships rather than one-sided relationships or a simple reciprocal exchange of “likes”. It is also reflective of a conscious decision of mine to be more mindful of such things.

At least one more post is in the works for this site, as I round up the group read of “Out” this Friday. I’ll probably post another reminder about the move. So, make that at least two more posts.

  • Group Read of “Out” by Natsuo Kirino || End of Wk 3

    michael raven

It’s been a week of changes around here at sceadugenga, with trying to get the new site up and running and all, combined with the commenting woes I was experiencing and having to troubleshoot, but everything seems to have found a baseline status for the time being. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t have time to read the “assignment” for week 3 of our group reading of “Out” by Natsuo Kirino.

This week was the two parts: Piece Work and Apartment 412. All that remains is Exit for next week.

Seeing as it is just three of us this time around, unless someone is just lurking and not participating, we might as well get on with the discussion.

  • Remember… ravensweald

    michael raven

If you haven’t already noticed, the lights have gone up and the bartender is calling “last call” to make you get the message, as if the ambiance change was not indication enough.

    “Last call! Last call!”

Someone nudges you and you look down at the resident drunk, Louie. “Hey man, can you buy me a drink, I’ll pay you back nex–“

    “Last call!”

You don’t listen to Louie; nobody ever does because he never remembers that he had promised to pay you back. So you shrug into your denim jacket to ward off the spring chill that creeps back every evening after nightfall at the end of March. The end of April will be another story, with its promise of summer, but now it is March and those winds still blow cold.

    “Last call!”

Yeah yeah yeah, you mutter under your breath, Last call. Meanwhile, Louie tries to bum a whiskey from someone still lingering at the bar. They don’t even pretend to hear he pleas.

You shoulder open the heavy steel door and slip into the night, a cigarette already at your lips and the smell of lighter fluid creeping into your nostrils as you spin the wheel of your Zippo, have it catch fire, your own personal campfire held in your hands as you light your cigarette. You catch a glimpse in the still open door of one of the wait staff… Jessica, you think. She’s new, and you think that’s her name… starts putting the bar stools on the empty tables while Monika turns off the neon signs selling Miller and Bud Lite.

And off into the night you go, unsurprised to see flurries dancing in the streetlights as you make your way out to your car.

Ravensweald is up live and running. It is my new site — a bit of a reset on how I approach my online presence. Much of what you see there will seem familiar, only with a shiny new coat of paint. But there are a lot of things planned for that engine under the hood.

While I plan to finish the cooperative read of “Out” posts here for the purposes of continuity, most of my writing will go to the new site. Sometime this autumn, the lights will go out here and the site will likely become archived and revert back to the original name on WordPress.com, walksinshadows.wordpress.com.

While I would love it for people who follow sceadugenga to migrate over to ravensweald, I fully understand it if you elect not to. I appreciate your past readership all the same, whether you come along or whether you stay away.

    All the best.

Website migrations are… weird… at times

I’ve spent most of my time this past weekend trying to fix elements of the other site (called ravensweald) that don’t share parity with the WordPress.com-hosted sites.

    Version 1.0.0

Well, it’s been a busy week over here at sceadugenga and setting up shop over at ravensweald, so I’ve not given this week’s chapters as much of a hardcore think as I did to the first two. My own suggested discussion prompts will be shorter as a result.

I had considered migrating this week’s discussion over to the forum I have set up for the purpose at the new site, but I don’t want to get bogged down in troubleshooting membership of the forum when it inevitably goes awry as I learn how to admin the site with the help of plugins previously not made available to me.

If you are reading along and want to hop on to the forum over there, you’d be doing me a great favor as my lab rat. Perhaps try signing up and introducing yourself, if you are only casually following along on this read. Or be really adventuresome and post a few topics on the book under this week’s sub-forum. While I will finish out this group read here, that is likely where we’ll end up for future group reads.

But now, on to the our discussion…

  • Migration to the new site begins

    Hey all!

I’ve been madly working towards getting my new domain ready for prime time over at ravensweald.com and it is starting to get to a place where I felt comfortable enough to take it out of maintenance mode and go live.

I posted my lengthy equivalent to “Hello World” last night and I’d really be honored if you took a few minutes and gave what will be my new home a gander.

  • Coming soon…

    michael raven

I tried to do this post on my PC, but the editor is throwing errors. Sigh. They must be working on the backend again and broke something again.

But I took the plunge and started from scratch on my new site. There’s nothing to see there yet, but you can see the tentative header I plan to use.

I’ll let you know when it goes live, but I’m relearning how to do so kind of things that I’ve taken for granted and it will take a good long while to get it presentable.

Hope you all are hanging in there.

    Happy Equinox!
