onfession: I am the one without a smartphone. But, this isn’t the end of the world. You can still do things that the lucky ones who own a smartphone take for granted. Such as booking a ride with Uber or Lyft, for example. However, Uber and Lyft are just a modern way of calling a good old taxi. Remember back in the day?

Think you’re out of luck for a Uber or a Lyft ride if you don’t have a smartphone? Don’t bet on it. There are ways around it. You can simply use your computer and a non-smart cell phone. Here’s how it works.
LYFT
First off, you authorize the ride request through this website https://account.lyft.com where you enter your phone number to which Lyft will sent a text with a code. At this point, all you have to do is use your trusty computer to enter your location and destination, make sure your payment information is correct, and voila! Press “Request Lyft”.
From that point on, the events are pretty similar to how it would be with the Lyft app on your smartphone (if you have one, that is). Lyft will text important updates so keep your phone close. You can also track the driver through the browser that you used to request the ride.
UBER
The process is similar to Lyft. You authorize your ride and enter your phone number through this web site https://m.uber.com, follow Uber prompts to enter your pickup location and final destination, tap “Request” and voila! Your Uber ride is requested. Again, you can monitor the whereabouts of your car on your trusty computer.
A word to those who thinks that if you don’t have a smartphone, you shouldn’t be even riding Uber or Lyft. I for once don’t have it as I can’t afford. My prepaid Net10 phone is $15/mo; good for calls & texts, and the minutes will roll over. I have also cut cable and am using rabbit ears. But can go about riding a Uber or Lyft through my computer, the same one I’m writing this blog on.
Try living on $900 a month.
