Tallest statues in the US

Christ of the Ozarks is an impressive sculpture of Jesus near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, on the peak of Magnetic Mountain. The statue was designed by sculptor Emmet Sullivan in 1966.  The statue faces west, and sunsets often turn the spread-armed Savior a rosy pink.

Dignity of Earth and Sky was constructed in 2016 by the Missouri River near Chamberlain, South Dakota. It was built of stainless steel and is 50 feet tall. honors the Sioux Nation.  It represents the cultural heritage and resilience of the Lakota and Dakota people. The statue depicts a Native American woman holding a quilt, symbolizing the importance of women in Sioux culture.

Away from the Crowds in New Hampshire

Not the usual tourist places

In Brookline, the Andres Institute of Art and Sculpture Garden features around 100 sculptures created by artists from all over the world that decorate the surrounding hiking trails. The stone and sculptures sit on and around Potanipo Hill.

Lincoln, New Hampshire, has a glacial pothole called the Basin. This is a 30-foot-wide, 15-foot-deep bowl formed from a torrent of rushing water pouring down the face of a granite cliffs. The falls are formed by the Pemigewasset River in Franconia Notch State Park. In 1839, when the American essayist, poet, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau saw the Basin, he called it “perhaps the most remarkable curiosity of its kind in New England.”

Away from the Crowds in Nevada

Albert Szukalski’s Last Supper is a set of twelve hooded plaster figures standing atop a hill below Daylight Pass and resembling Death himself. This is located near the ghost town of Rhyolite. It is named after the artist who sculpted this art installation in 1984. The sculptors, as Szukalski claims, take inspiration from da Vinci’s painting of Christ’s Last Supper. They are located on the grounds of the Goldwell Open Air Museum and await visitors.

Beaver Dam State Park is located by the Utah border. It offers lovely scenery with deep, stream-cut canyons, mixed conifer forests, and trails to explore. There are multiple waterfalls. Beaver Dam Creek is packed with trout. There are tree-shrouded campsites in the designated Watchable Wildlife Area where you can see wild turkeys and bobcats.

Many Bridges to Cross

The Chengyang Bridge in Sanjiang County is a wooden bridge with two platforms and a roof covered with tiles. The bridge also has a corridor and veranda. Built in 1912, it serves as the link between two villages.

The Ruyi Bridge is located in the high-tech zone of Chengdu in China, crossing Tianfu 2nd Street. The bridge connects the urban space on the north to Dayuan Park in the south. Ruyi Bridge was designed by ZZHK Architects and is used by pedestrians and cyclists. It was named Ruyi after a traditional Chinese “S-shaped” musical instrument, which is considered to be a good luck symbol.

Away from the Crowds in Nebraska

Nebraska is a landlocked state in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is officially known as the Cornhusker State.

The Bigfoot Crossroads of America Museum is all about the forest-dwelling cryptid Bigfoot. You can find out all about him at this museum in Hastings. The museum was established by local resident Harriet McFeely, who traveled the world collecting stories and information from Bigfoot believers. Her collection includes 2000-year-old skulls, hand and foot casts, and a photo of “Patty,” a Bigfoot captured on film in 1967.

Carhenge is the creation of Jim Reinders along with the help of his family and friends. They took old cars and arranged them after the original Stonehenge in England. All 38 of the major stones found at Stonehenge in the form of vehicles are represented. The automobiles, which include a handful of cars, a pickup truck, an ambulance, and a 1962 Cadillac as the heel stone have been painted gray. Carhenge is located in Alliance and now also includes the Car Art Reserve, which has more car sculptures.

The Impressive Bridges of New York City

New York City consists of five boroughs—Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. The Big Apple depends upon a network of almost two thousand bridges. Here are some of the most well-known bridges in the city.

The Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883. It was the creation of John Augustus Roebling, who went down in history as one of the greatest pioneers in the design of steel suspension bridges. At the time of completion, the bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It connects the financial district of Manhattan to the northeastern part of Brooklyn. It adds its solid granite towers and steel suspension cables to the New York City skyline. An estimated 150,000 vehicles and pedestrians cross the Brooklyn Bridge every day.

Away from the Crowds in Montana

Montana is a landlocked state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. On of its nicknames is “Big Sky Country.”

Blue Horses—These giant metal horses graze on a hilltop near the Montana highway. These are larger-than-life statues that were sculpted from steel. Local artist Jim Dolan installed these in 2013 on land donated by the Wheat Mountain Grain Company. There are 39 metallic horses standing on the land. Each of the horses is painted with blue and white stripes to give their forms a sense of depth as well as manes made of polyester rope that can sway realistically in the wind.

The Boiling River flows into the Gardner River and is located two miles from the Yellowstone National Park North Gate. Hot and cold water flow together, gathering in small stone pools and creating natural hot tubs. It is among the few legal thermal soaking areas in Yellowstone

Amazing Rock Formations

Brimham Rocks is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and Geological Conservation Review located northwest of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, in England. The site is known for its water- and weather-eroded rocks formed more than 325 million years ago. They have formed amazing shapes.

Charyn Canyon in Kazakhstan has been dubbed the “Grand Canyon of Kazakhstan” and is located near the Chinese border. It is part of the Charyn National Park. The canyon consists of a formation along the banks of the Charyn River. It consists of five different canyons—the Valley of Castles, the Temirlik Canyon, the Yellow Canyon, the Red Canyon, and the Bestamak Canyon.

Away from the Crowds in Missouri

Missouri is a landlocked state in the Midwestern region of the United States.  It is known as the “Show-Me State.”

Boathenge includes a series of painted boats on a lawn adjacent to the Katy Trail along the Missouri River. It has a strange legend that BoatHenge either “sprouted from the earth or fell from the sky on the first day of spring.” The installation consists of six fiberglass boats bursting vertically from the ground and arranged in a semi-lunar formation.

The Chuck Berry House is a small red brisk house in St. Louis that was once the home of rock and roll legend Chuck Berry from 1950 to 1958. A faint “B” for Berry can be seen on the awning over the front porch. It is here that Berry wrote such classics as “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Johnny B. Goode,” and “Rock and Roll Music.”
