God’s Work God’s Way
You may have asked yourself, “How can I glorify God in my work or business? The principle of “glorifying” God in our work is the same as anything else we do in life. The Bible teaches us to honor the Lord in all that we do: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Colossians 3:23 also tells us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
Work is not just for earning money or putting food on the table, but most importantly, a way to honor God. We spend an enormous amount of time each day working, so look for opportunities to pray and commune with God.
In addition, understand your calling to use work as a platform for evangelism – whether it’s silent evangelism (by modeling a godly life to others) or verbal evangelism (when sharing the gospel), God can use your work to draw others to saving faith in Christ.
Whether you’re an employee or a business owner, here are some 7 key principles to follow at work every day:
- GLORIFYING GOD in everything means we honor Him in our thoughts, speech, and actions, including at work.
- WORK HARD and enthusiastically.
- WORK WELL, as if we are working for God Himself.
- SUBMIT to your employer with sincerity and humility.
- SHOW INTEGRITY. Be on time for work, and keep your commitments.
- LOVE your co-workers. Show Christian love to your employees or co-workers. Influence them with the love of Christ by your good example, and always be ready to communicate the gospel.
- REST from your work. Remember to honor the Sabbath day rest, once a week, and give your mind and body rest from your work and worries.
Finally, remember the example our Lord Jesus gave us: He always glorified His Father in heaven. When faced with temptations, Jesus quoted Scripture as His secret weapon of defense. He always stood firm on God’s commandments during times of testing.
Hudson Taylor, a dedicated missionary to China once said, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.” We encourage you to pray for God to bless and honor your work each day.
